Harold NASON, director of education for Nova Scotia, was guest speaker at the banquet of Wimburn Lodge No. 75, A.F. and A.M., at Oxford Legion Hall on December 6. Worshipful Master is George DELANEY.

Mrs. James DRYSDALE was reelected president of the Wallace Red Cross at the annual meeting on November 29. The branch was organized in March.

Died at Victoria on November 14, Mrs. Mae RYAN, 74.

Died at Windsor, Ontario, Wilfred John LAURIE, 45, a native of
Northport, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Laurie.

Thursday, December 11, 1930

Sixty-four Belgians along the Meuse River Valley died recently when a mysterious fog caused the victims to cough, choke and die.

The new station agent, Mr. CANNING and family, have settled in Thomson.

Died at Truro on December 5, J.J. STEVENS of Wallace, aged 83.

A Look Back .....
Nov. 19, 1914 - Oxford Flour Mills are doing a rushing business under the management of Messrs. S.J. DOWNING and Claude BLACK, with Mr. Stewart SMITH as the efficient miller. An idea of the volume of business may be gained when it is stated that the shipments of flour, grists, etc., average about 200 a day. As the mill has a fine roller process, a superior product is turned out, and farmers all over Cumberland are sending their grists to Oxford these days.

July 26, 1923 - The Mildland Motors, Oxford, offers the Star Touring Car, manufactured by Durant Motors, for sale at $715, sales tax paid.
(Which was a lot of money in those days).

March 15, 1928 - Orland THOMPSON, Oxford electrician, is spending some time in Pugwash, where he has a large amount of work wiring houses and stores for electricity. Power will be available from The Falls, near Tatamagouche.

Nov. 1, 1928 - Marshall SPROULE, divinity student of Pictou Academy, occupied the pulpit of St. John's Presbyterian Church, Pugwash, on Sunday.

Wyvern, Cumberland County, a settlement on West River Philip, so named in 1890. It had been previously known as West Branch River Philip and was first settled in 1836. Among the grantees were Benjamen SAYRE, 1858; John BRAGG, 1859 and Edward SWEET, 1863. A Methodist Church was built about 1888.
