Pte. Wm. WARREN Succumbs to Wounds
Mrs. EDWARD WARREN of Parrsboro received the following letters, conveying the news that her step son, Pte. W. WARREN had been wounded, and afterward succumbed to his injuries.

Dear Mrs. WARREN;
This is to inform you that your son Pte. Wm WARREN, 715315, 26th Batt was admitted to the Hospital on Sept. 11th, 1917 wounded in the right leg. He was operated on today and it is hoped that by may respond to the treatment. I can assure you the he will get the very best attention and care and everything possible will be done for his recovery and comfort.
He sends his love and will write as soon as he is able.

Dear Mrs. WARREN:
It is my sad duty to inform you of the death at his station of your
son, Pte. W. WARREN 715315, 25th Battalion on Dec 11th, 1917 at 9:30 pm. As you know from my previous letter he was wounded in the leg, which had to be amputated.
I saw him many times and his trust and confidence were in the Saviour.
He was buried in the Lijssenthark Cemetery, Belgium. His personal effects will be sent to his next of kin in due course by the Military Authorities. This usually takes some time. I deeply sympathize with you and pray that God may comfort you in this sad bereavement.

JOHN THOMPSON, who had been in the employ of the Nova Scotia Government farm at Truro for some years past, was killed by No 17 train Saturday at Onslow while walking the track. The body was brought to Truro at noon.

OBIT - MARK FREDRICK BERGMAN
Pugwash Jan 2nd
A well respected and much esteemed citizen of Pugwash, Mr. M. F. BERGMAN passed away at his home, Main Street, on Saturday morning the 29th inst. He had been ill for 2 years following a stroke of paralysis and it was not expected that he would recover, but his death is none the less keenly felt by the family which is bereft of a loving husband and kind father. No word of complaint ever escaped him in the 2 years of intense suffering.

The deceased was a son of the late GEORGE and PHEBA BERGMAN and at the time of his death was in the 64th years of his age. Of a family of ten, but one, MAUDE, wife of LEVI KENNEDY, Rockley, survive.
At the age of 22 Mr. BERGMAN married Miss ANGELINE BARNSIDE. From this union there was a family of 2 daughters, LAURA, wife of HARRY C. HARVEY, Baltimore, Md and MARY, wife of AUBREY WITTES (very faint, not sure if correct - Dyan), West Pugwash and one son, Curtis, who died ten years ago.

Mr. & Mrs. BERGMAN resided at West Pugwash on "Cloverdale" Farm until five years ago when they sold the farm and removed to Pugwash.
The funeral was held from his late residence, Rev. G.O. CHEESE, B.A., L.L.B. rector of St. George's Parish, officiating. Rev. J.R. MILLAR of St. Matthews Presbyterian Church was present and assisted in the service.

OBIT - Mrs. DANIEL RUSHTON
An aged resident passed away last Friday morning in the person of Mrs. DANIEL RUSHTON, in her 85th year. She is survived by the following sons:

John - Oxford
HENRY - Oxford
DAVID - Amherst
GEORGE - Kolbec, at whose home his mother passed away;
Also 3 daughters, Mrs. JAMES B. HIGGS (not sure on spelling of last name - Dyan)
Belmont
Mrs. EDWARD WOOD - Lake Killarney
Mrs. W.M. MILLER - Oxford
Pastor SAYDEN conducted the funeral on Sunday afternoon, there being large number of relatives and friends present.

OBIT - FRANK MATTINSON
Mr. FRANK MATTINSON passed away at his home at Mount Pleasant on Jan. 1st in his 90th year. He is survived by a widow, who was Miss NANCY FAHEY, also six sons, JOSEPH, WILLIAM, WILBERT, GILBERT, JERRY and EDMOND and 2 daughters, Mrs. HORTON in Mass and Mrs. R.D. WALKER of Beckwith.
The funeral was held on Friday afternoon, Rev. P.R. DAYDEN officiating. Burial took place at Birch Grove cemetery.

JOHN A. MATTINSON of Cabri, Sask is visiting friends in Oxford and vicinity.
Mr. & Mrs. WILLIAM FAHEY of Calgary are visiting the formers parents Mr. & Mrs. Philip FAHEY, at Mount Pleasant.

Mr. & Mrs. J. ELMER McINTOSH and family have returned from Calgary and settled in Oxford. We hope they may become permanent residents.

Mr. &Mrs. ALFRED BROWNELL of Northport, N.S. announce the engagement of their daughter, ELEANOR V. BROWNELL, R.N. of Boston, Mass to Dr. JOHN HALL of Taunton, Mass, the marriage to take place latter part of January.
