Oxford 's tax rate for 1951 has been set at 6.5 percent. Town Clerk Lloyd N. ROSS gave a detailed report on the conference between town officials and the Department of Education at Halifax on Feb. 28. The department recommended two schools for Oxford; a Regional High for grades 7 to 12 at a cost of $450,000 and 1 10-room elementary school to cost $80,000 or more.

The town tax rate for 1941 was set at $5.75 per $100 of assessment, as against $6.00 for 1940.

O.E. HUNTER, station agent at Westchester, retired on March 1 after 35 years service with the C.N.R., and plans to reside in Oxford.

Thursday, March 5, 1931

The first regular air service in the Maritimes was opened March 2, when a five-passenger plane began flights between Saint John and Halifax, covering the distance in one and a quarter hours.

Caroline CARTER and Merrill PURDY won prizes for the best spelling in Grade 4 during February. In Grade 3 the prizes went to Gladys MACINTOSH and Howard WOOD.

Died at Linden on January 27, Bedford B. FURLONG, age 53.
