**OBIT - James MOFFATT
Many old friends n this county will regret to her of the death in Cranbrook, B.C. of James MOFFATT a former well-known citizen of Amherst. The telegram announcing his death was the first intimation relatives had that he was not in his usual good state of health. Death was due to a stroke of paralysis a few days ago, following one of two or three years ago... His last illness was at the home of his daughter, Ms. HODGSON, Cranbrook.
He was a son of the late Atcheson MOFFATT, one of the pioneer merchants of Amherst and he and his brother Arthur succeeded to their father’s business after his retirement some forty years ago. The firm was known as A.W. and J. MOFFATT. After a number of years the firm was dissolved, the deceased establishing a business for himself, while the old stand was continued by his brother. This continued for a few years when the deceased retired and about eight years ago he left for the West, where several of his family were located. The first few years were spent with his sons in Perdue, Sask. He was a quiet, genial, human type of a man and while he did not aspire to civic or public honors, he was very generally esteemed in the community. His death means the severing of a very interesting link with the past.
The family left to mourn their loss are widow, formerly Miss HOWARD of Amherst, three sons, Howard, Osborne and Lloyd in Perdue and two daughters, Edna, Mrs. HODGSON, already mentioned and Lydia, Mrs. HUNTER in Kansas. There are also two brothers, Charles and Arthur and a sister, Mary all located Amherst, N.S. The deceased was 72 years of age and according to the telegram received from one of the sons the funeral was held at Mission, B.C.

**DIED
At Advocate, in the 56th year of his age, Fred J. BARTEAUX, only son of the late Capt. Fred BARTEAUX. He leaves to mourn a wife, who was formerly Carrie SMITH, daughter of the late Capt. Wm. SMITH of Advocate, two children, Mrs. Charles DONKIN of Amherst and Vance at home; three sisters, Mrs. Charles HUNNEWELL of Somerville, Mass; Mrs. Emerson BARTEAUX and Watson DeWOLFE of Advocate.

OBIT - Kenneth MacLEAN
The death after an illness of only a few hours occurred of Kenneth McLEAN of Gulf Shore at his home at the good old age of eighty-eight years. Mr. MacLEAN is next to the last of a large family. His sister, Mrs. Margaret DOTTEN, survives him. He was born and spent his life on the Gulf Shore, where he was looked upon as the oldest and most respected citizen. Following the sea in his younger days as a Pilot he took an active interest in vessels. It was a familiar sight to see him adjusting his telescope glass on all sailing crafts n the Straits. His cheerful disposition and ready smile will be much missed and he was always a prime favorite with the young. He was a Presbyterian and Liberal. The funeral was largely attended. The service was conducted by the Rev. Mr. MILLAR.
