Fatal Accidents Near Athol.

RALPH NOYES, Instantly Killed and W.R. CRAY dies of his injuries. Another accident occurred on the I.C.R. near Athol on last Thursday, whereby 2 bright lives were ended.
A part, which had been engaged in making a survey of the railroad line from Oxford Jct westward were operating near Athol. The 2 men NOYES & CRAY with 2 others were on a hand car and the wind blowing and the slight snow storm coming on prevented them from hearing or seeing the approaching westbound CPR express, until on rounding a curve it was nearly on them. 2 men jumped, but the other 2 were killed NOYES instantly and CRAY passing away from his terrible injuries shortly afterwards.

ROBERT MITCHELL Killed on ICR near Amherst.

ROBERT MITCHELL died at Highlandview Hospital, Amherst Sunday as a result of injuries sustained on the ICR. He went from Amherst to visit some friends at Fort Lawrence and afterwards left the latter place for a flag station to return to Amherst. That was the last seen of him alive.
The crew of an east bound freight saw him lying near the track. He was picked up and placed in a van and brought here, where he died. His thigh and right leg were broken and he was injured internally. He was unmarried. The deceased belonged in the vicinity of Wallace and was about 45 years of age. He was well known about Oxford and was a capable decorative painter, having done some of the best work in that line in Oxford and vicinity.

The funeral of ROBERT MITCHELL, who died at Amherst Hospital on Sunday last as the result of injuries received on the LCR at Fort Lawrence took place on Tuesday from the home of Mr. GEORGE BOYLE. Rev. W.J. CROFT conducted the service at the house, being assisted by Rev. M. McKAY.

OBIT J.K. McLEOD
A familiar figure has passed away. One of Oxfords' oldest residents and business men in the person of Mr. JOHN McLEOD. He was born at Hopewell, Pictou Co., NS in 1835 and came to Oxford in its primitive days, 45 years ago and opened his tailoring shop. On Thursday last he was taken ill at his shop on Water St and with some difficulty walked to his house where medical attention was given. Pneumonia set in however, and he passed away Saturday morning. The deceased was married twice, his 1st wife being a Miss CAROLINE TEED of Wentworth, a sister of Mrs. ALBERT WOOD from which were the following children:

Mrs. EMMA ROSS - Oxford
Mrs. JOHN HARRIS - Waltham, Mass
Miss MINNIE - Edmonton, Alberta
ALBERT - Edmonton, Alberta
His 2nd wife was a Miss HENRIETTA McLEOD of Gulf Shore. 2 children resulted from this union:
ARTHUR - in San Francisco
GARTH - in Oxford
The funeral was held on Tuesday at 1 o'clock, his pastor, Rev. G.S. MITCHELL officiating at the house of the deceased. The pall bearers were Messrs. A. ROSS, J.C. REID, J.C. VanBUSKIRK and W.S. McDONALD. The burial was at Pine Grove.

OBIT - Mrs. H.W. BROWN
It is with deepest regret that we chronicle the death of Mrs. H.W. Brown, which took place at her late residence, Hartford, N.S. on November 4th after a lingering illness of heart trouble and complications.
The late Mrs. BROWN was a woman of cheerful disposition beloved by not only her own family, but by all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance. She was in the 47th year of her age at the time of her death and had been a member of the Methodist church for years, also a member of the I.O.G.T. in which she took an active interest. She leaves to mourn her loss a loving husband and family an aged mother and one sister, Mrs. CHARLES COLTER of Springhill. 2 brothers, Mr. Wm. VanBUSKIRK and JOHN of USA.

Her daughters are:
Mrs. ARTHUR STRONG - Kentville
Miss NELLIE - teaching at Hantsport
Miss DELIA - at home.
The sons are:
VICTOR - of Amherst
WILFRED, CHARLES & ALFRED - at home.

After a short address and prayer at the home, the remains followed by one of the largest processions ever seen in Hartford, were conveyed to the Wallace Bay church, where the service was conducted by the Rev. Mr. WHITMAN of Pugwash, who spoke in the highest terms of the deceased.
The remains were then laid to rest in the Wallace Bay cemetery beside those of her son, EBEN, who predeceased her about 10 years.
Among the beautiful floral tributes may be mentioned a cross from husband and family, wreath from mother and sister and a pillow from the Middleboro Lodge.

The pall bearers were:
Messrs. RUFUS PEERS, DUNCAN ROSS, D. MURPHY and McTAVISH ROSS.
FRANK BROWN was funeral director.

We desire to extend our sincere thanks to friends and neighbours for the many acts of kindness shown during the illness and at the death of our loved one, Mr. WILLIAM FRASER, to Rev. Mr. HAYDEN for his kind words of consolation and sympathy.

Mrs. JOHN HARRIS of Waltham, Mass was home attending the funeral of her father the late J.K. McLEOD.

The Marriage of Miss MAUDE DICKIE, daughter of the late Mr. JOHN I. and Mrs. DICKIE of Hantsport to EDWARD M. SMITH, will be solemnized today at Hantsport. The bride is the sister of Mrs. S.A. MARCHANT and Mrs. D.W. WOOD of this town.

The following from a Portage la Prairie paper. The many friends of Mrs. R.A. JOHNSTONE (EDYTHE HILL SANDERS) formerly of Halifax. "Mrs. R.A. JOHNSTONE entertained for the 1st time since her marriage on Wednesday afternoon last".

Mrs. JAMES LOTHROP of Boston, Mass is visiting her niece, Mrs. AMOS SCHURMAN.

They were married on Tuesday November 4th at Medicine Hat by the Rev A.S. TUTTLE, ETHEL AMELIA, daughter of ROBERT HENDERSON, Westchester, N.S. and WILLIAM SEAMORE SCHURMAN of Collingwood Corner, N.S. Mr. & Mrs. SCHURMAN will reside in Calgary.

OBIT - Mrs. ROBERT SCHURMAN
The death occurred in Freetown, P.E.Island on Saturday afternoon of Mrs. ROBERT SCHURMAN at the age of 87 years, after an illness of about a year. The deceased was the daughter of the late JACOB GOULDRUP, Tyron.
She leaves 6 sons and 2 daughters as follows:

Messrs. J. DAVID - Togo, Sask
Major - Summerside, now of Winnipeg.
Dr. JACOB C. - President of Cornell University
C. H. SHURMAN - Chicago
MAYNARD F. - Summerside
GEORGE W. - New York
Mrs. (Rev) D.G. McDONALD - Vancouver, B.C.
Mrs. W.G. SCHURMAN - Freetown, with whom the deceased had resided and at whose home she died.
Dr. JACOB G. and Mrs. GEORGE W. arrived before their mother passed away.

The deceased was an aunt of Mr. ELIJAH SCHURMAN of Oxford.
