HARVEY, Ralph E - 75, Whitehall Road, Parrsboro, died Friday, September 3, 1999, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in Parrsboro, he was a son of the late Corey and Ella (Jenks) Harvey. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Royal Canadian Navy. Following the war, he was a marine engineer with Great Lakes Shipping, and later with the Canadian Gypsum Company. He was a member of Minas Masonic Lodge and Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 45, Parrsboro. He is survived by his wife, the former Lillian Zinck; daughters, Dianne Laituri, Parrsboro; Tanya MacDonald and her husband John, Sheet Harbour; brother, Malcolm and his wife Claudina, Parrsboro; granddaughters, Quiss Coll and her husband David, Riverview, N.B.; and Robyn MacDonald, Halifax. He was predeceased by two brothers in infancy. Funeral service 4 p.m. today in St. George's Anglican Church, Parrsboro, Rev. Robert Richmond officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. ROLFE (Welton), Eleanor M. - Springhill, Cumberland Co.,died Thursday, September 2, 1999, in Armview Estates, Halifax. Born November 5, 1915, in Wallace River, Cumberland Co., she was the oldest child of William and Susan (Howard) Henderson. Most of her life was spent in springhill, where she was a member of the United Baptist Church and the Pythian Sisters. She enjoyed spending time with her beloved dog, Mitzie. She is survived by daughter, Darlene (Mrs. Jack Stone), 53 Moody Park Dr., Williamswood; stepdaughters, Nettie (Mrs. George Porter), Brooklyn, Hants Co.; Eleanor (Mrs. Vincent Porter), Springhill; Laura (Mrs. J. D. Hughes), Paisley, Ont.; Barbara (Mrs. Cory Dowe), Hanover, Ont.; sister, Mrs. Jean Rolfe, Port Elgin, Ont.; brother, Arthur and wife Mallie, Wallace, Cumberland Co.; three nieces; three nephews; special grandnieces, Tina, Erin and Rebecca Devine. She was predeceased by her first husband, Earle D. Welton; and her second husband, Emmerson Rolfe. Visitation will be Sunday, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in MacDiarmid's Funeral Home, 5075 Main St., Oxford, where funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m., Rev. Brent MacDonald officiating. BRISTOL, Katherine L. - 54, 120 Park St., Amherst, died September 4, 1999, at home. Born in Maccan, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Dorothy Collins. She worked in the restaurant business for several years. She enjoyed sports, especially wrestling as well as bingo and traveling. Surviving are her husband, Jack; daughters, Jacqueline, Moncton; Mary, Hamilton; Lynn , Maccan; sons, Michael, William, at home; Glenn, Oshawa, Ont.; sisters, Evelyn, Stellarton; Gail, Moncton; Muriel, Aulac, N.B.; Audrey, River Hebert; brothers Herbert, Amherst; Edward, Mississauga; Peter, Moncton; William "Little Bill", Joggins; 13 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Archie. Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell's Funeral Home. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday, Rev. Bob Mackay officiating.  HARRISON, Ronald Douglas "Doug" - 59, Woodstock, Ont., formerly of Springhill, died in Caresent Care Nursing Home,Woodstock, Ont., April 29, 1999. He was a son of the late Leroy Harvey and Rita Mae (MacLean) (Dunphy) Harrison. Surviving are brother, Thomas William, Red Deer, Alta.; sisters, Joan Marie Fisher, Dorothy Louise Fraser, Faye Devonna White, Betty Ann MacPhee, Mary Ann Harrison; half-sisters, Janice Smith, Audrey Gogan, Marji Dunphy, Patsy Dunphy; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins. He was predeceased by brothers, Kenneth Harvey, Gary Leroy, Carl Edward, Gilbert Norman. Arrangements entrusted to R.D. Longworth Funeral Home, Woodstock Ont., and cooperated with the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority in planting a tree in Doug's memory. Burial was in Gilby Cemetery, Gilby, Alta.

MITCHELL, Edgar Robert - 79, South Pugwash, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 1999, at his residence. Born in South Pugwash, he was a son of the late James and Amy (Davis) Mitchell. He was a veteran of the Second World War, having served overseas with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was a member and former elder of Wesley St. Matthew's United Church, Pugwash, and was a retired custodian of the Pugwash High School after a total of 19 years service. Surviving are his wife, the former Kathleen Reid; sons, Russell, South Pugwash; Reginald and his wife Julie, South Pugwash; sisters, Eileen (Mrs. Donald Mitchell), South Pugwash; Doris (Mrs. Albert Cole), Pugwash; a granddaughter, Bethany. He was predeceased by sister, Evelyn Smith. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Mudle's Funeral Home, Pugwash. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday in Wesley St. Matthew's United Church, Pugwash, Rev. Janet Travers officiating. Cremation will follow the service with interment in Pamerston Cemetery, Pugwash, at a later date. TAYLOR, Rodger Maxwell - 81, 62 Biggs Drive, East Amherst, died in the VG Site, QEII, September 6, 1999. Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Ira and Lulu Taylor. He graduated Magna Cum Lauda from Mount Allison University in 1937 with a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics. He joined the Bank of Nova Scotia in 1937 in Amherst, working his way through the ranks to executive assistant to the chairman of the board, retiring in Toronto in 1980. He had also spent several years in Havana and Jamaica. After retiring from the bank he worked as a financial consultant for John Bragg of Oxford Frozen Foods for over 15 years. He was a volunteer for the United Way and served as director of the Cumberland Industrial Commission among other charities. He was a former member of the Amherst Curling Club and a member of the Amherst Golf Club, where he had been club champion in his youth and had been very proud of his six holes in one. Surviving are his wife, the former Gertrude "Trudy" Carkner; sisters, Georgeen Taylor, Amherst; Audrey Miles, Winnipeg; several nieces and nephews. No visitation by request. Memorial service 2 p.m. Saturday in the Cumberland Memorial Chapel, Amherst, Rev. Allan Griffin officiating. Reception to follow in the chapel reception room. HUNTER, Winnifred Evelyn - 79, East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash and formerly of Springhill, died Tuesday September 7, 1999, in the Lodge. Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Hazel Jane (Smith) Davies. She was a member of the St. Andrew's Wesley United Church in Springhill and formerly of the St. John's Ambulance Brigade. She worked several years in All Saints Hospital, Springhill, as a nursing assistant. She also assisted int he leadership of the Cub and Scout movement in the church. She is survived by sons, Douglas and his wife Bev, River Phillip, Cumberland County and Blaine and his wife Sandra of Prince George, B.C. A daughter Karen Reed of Amherst. sister (Mrs. Norman Megeney, Springhill; brother, Gerald, London, Ont.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Victor David Hunter; brother, Harold and sister, Margaret Spence. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in A.H. Brown Funeral home, Springhill from where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 9, Rev. Ralph Morris officiating. Burial in Rodney Cemetery, Cumberland Co. Donations to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia would be appreciated.

Born in Fraserville, Cumberland Co., he was a son of the late George and Mary (Grant) Field. He was a retired farmer and lumberman. He was also superintendent of Wide Horizons Nursing Home, Princeport, Colchester County for 20 years. Surviving are son, Roy, Diligent River; brother, Howard, River Philip; seven grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren. BURKE, Edith F. - 82, of Mount Pleasant, Cumberland Co., formerly of Springhill, died, September 14, 1999, in Mount Pleasant Lodge. Born in Joggins, Cumberland Co., she was a daughter of the late Aubrey and Anna Bell (Tower) Fitzgerald. She was a registered C. N. A., working in the nursing profession for twenty-two years before retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters, Springhill; Collingwood Senior Citizens Club and the Ladies Auxiliary, Springhill Legion, Branch 17. She enjoyed sewing and knitting. Surviving are daughters, Carol Knox, Port Mouton; Dorothy Pillar, Prince Albert, Sask.; Barbara Tower, River Philip; brothers, Elmer, Springhill; Kenneth, Shediac, N.B.; Greg, Valley Road, Springhill; sisters, Alice Thomas, Danvers, Mass.; Janice Clingerman, Crossville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. Born in Apple River, he was a son of the late Edwin and Hallie (Atkinson) Mills. He is survived by his wife, the former Maureen Yorke; daughters, Rosemary Mills, Dartmouth; Christine Mills, and her companion, Ricky Slocum, Portapique; Sunday Mills, and her companion, Bruce Morris, Fraserville; Jane Fletcher, and her husband, Darrin, Advocate Harbour; Karen Mills, Virginia Beach, Virginia, United States; sons, William Jr., and his companion, Tanya Neves, Truro; Edwin, and his wife, Kim Drysdale, Apple River; sisters, Hilda Hamilton, Advocate Harbour; Prudence Price, and her husband, Charles, Vancouver; Marjorie Dunbar, Advocate Harbour; Kathy Heighton, and her husband, Larry, Lower Sackville; brothers, Enos, and his wife Katherine, Advocate Harbour; Lawrence, and his wife, Monnie, Port Greville; Ralph, Vancouver; Gerald, and his wife, Rev. CAMERON, John Burton - 91, 4 Smith St., Amherst, formerly of Maccan, died September 13, 1999, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in Chignecto Mines, he was a son of the late Johnson Luther and Annie Maude (Moore) Cameron. John served overseas during the Second World War with the West Nova Scotia Regiment, seeing action at the Battle of Ortona, Italy, with his brothers Cecil and Garfield. He had worked for 28 years at Sifto Salt and for the railroad as well. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 10, Amherst. Surviving are special companion, Marie Kaye; sons, Avard, Barachois, N.B.; Brian, Amherst; Chris, Edmonton, Alta.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Lorne, Amherst; Chester, Maccan; sisters, Marie, Rhode Island; Thelma, Burford, Ont.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Merrill, Cecil, Garfield; sisters, Dorothy, Hazel. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday, both in Campbell's Funeral Home, Amherst, Rev. WOOD, Violet Gwendolyn - 85, 26 Lisgar St., Springhill, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 1999, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late James William and Susan (Wilson) Boran. She was a life member of the Pythian Star Temple 8, Pythian Sisters; past provincial grand mistress and supreme grand officer of the Loyal True Blue Association and a long-time board member and chairperson of the LTBA Protestant Orphanage and a 60 year member of the St. David's Presbyterian Church in Springhill. She is survived by a son, David and his wife Sheila, River Philip, Cumberland Co.; a daughter, Mrs. Olive Megeney, Springhill; grandchildren, Tasha, Michael, Christine and Lisa; brothers, Earl, LaSalle, Que. and Wallace, Kolbec, Cumberland Co.; a sister, Mrs. Alice MacLeod, New Glasgow. She was predeceased by her husband, Earl Lloyd Wood and an infant daughter; sisters, Evelyn, Mamie and Greta; brothers, James, Cecil, Percy and Charles. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in A.H. Brown Funeral Home, Springhill. Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late Malcolm Blue and Mary Ann (Price) MacMillan. She was a member of the St. Andrews-Wesley United Church, Springhill; All Saints Springhill Hospital Auxiliary for a number of years; Sixty Plus Club of the Springhill Senior Citizens and a life member and past noble grand of the Lady Minto Rebekah Lodge, 23, Springhill. She worked eight years as a nursing assistant. Surviving are by a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Scheinfeldt, Amherst; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Lionel Victor Bowden; brother, John A.; sisters, Mrs. Katherine Brown, Mrs. Irene White.
