He was a veteran of the Second World War, having served overseas with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was a member and former elder of Wesley St. Matthew's United Church, Pugwash, and was a retired custodian of the Pugwash High School after a total of 19 years service. TAYLOR, Rodger Maxwell - 81, 62 Biggs Drive, East Amherst, died in the VG Site, QEII, September 6, 1999. Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Ira and Lulu Taylor. He graduated Magna Cum Lauda from Mount Allison University in 1937 with a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics. He joined the Bank of Nova Scotia in 1937 in Amherst, working his way through the ranks to executive assistant to the chairman of the board, retiring in Toronto in 1980. He had also spent several years in Havana and Jamaica. After retiring from the bank he worked as a financial consultant for John Bragg of Oxford Frozen Foods for over 15 years. He was a volunteer for the United Way and served as director of the Cumberland Industrial Commission among other charities. He was a former member of the Amherst Curling Club and a member of the Amherst Golf Club, where he had been club champion in his youth and had been very proud of his six holes in one. Surviving are his wife, the former Gertrude "Trudy" Carkner; sisters, Georgeen Taylor, Amherst; Audrey Miles, Winnipeg; several nieces and nephews. No visitation by request. She was a member of the St. Andrew's Wesley United Church in Springhill and formerly of the St. John's Ambulance Brigade. She worked several years in All Saints Hospital, Springhill, as a nursing assistant. She also assisted int he leadership of the Cub and Scout movement in the church. She is survived by sons, Douglas and his wife Bev, River Phillip, Cumberland County and Blaine and his wife Sandra of Prince George, B.C. A daughter Karen Reed of Amherst. sister (Mrs. Norman Megeney, Springhill; brother, Gerald, London, Ont.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. John served overseas during the Second World War with the West Nova Scotia Regiment, seeing action at the Battle of Ortona, Italy, with his brothers Cecil and Garfield. He had worked for 28 years at Sifto Salt and for the railroad as well. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 10, Amherst.
