MacALEESE, Robert R - 89, New Prospect, Cumberland Co. died Wednesday, October 20,1999, in South Cumberland Community Care Centre, Parrsboro. Born in New Prospect, he was a son of the late Daniel and Sabra (Brown) MacAleese. He was a retired heavy equipment operator. He was a talented musician having played numerous instruments and was well known throughout the community for his friendliness and musical talent. He is survived by his wife, the former Lavinia Fife; daughters, Roberta "Midge" Lucas, and her husband, John, New Prospect; Muriel Goodwin, and her husband, Doug, Southampton; Myrna MacBurnie, and her husband, Trueman, Five Islands; Marion MacAleese, Hammonds Plains; sons, Allison "Bubber", and his wife, Margo, New Prospect; Robert G., Alberta; Michael, Dartmouth; Wilson "Toot", and his wife, Bonnie, Springhill; Hugh-Allan "Ebby", and his wife Jackie, Amherst; Kevin, Lower Sackville; 16 grandchildren; four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Mona; son, Wyman; sisters, Cleo, Margaret, Emma, Phyllis, Jean, Grace; brothers, John, Charles, Edward, Hugh, Donald; granddaughters in infancy. BROWN, Lyorlus Milton - 78, Apartment 21, Meadow Vista Lane, Oxford, Cumberland Co., formerly of Southampton, Cumberland Co., passed away on Saturday, November 20, 1999, in the Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in Springhill he was a son of the late Ernest Milton and Sadie Alice (Lepper) Brown. He was a member of the Southampton United Church and anadherent of the Oxford Junction United Church. His life's work was spent as a sawyer in the lumbermill industry. He was a charter member of the Southampton Lodge 54 and a dual member of the Oxford Lodge 26 of the Knights of Pythias and a past Grand Prelate in Grand Lodge, member of El Shebab Santha 21 Lodge, member of the Widows Son 48 Masonic Lodge, and also Cumberland PC party. He enjoyed his family, hunting, fishing, reading and baseball games. He is survived by his wife, the former Evelyn (Gallagher) Brown; son, Ernest "Sonny" (Sharon), Oxford Jct., Cumberland Co.; daughter, Sharon (Edward) Tattersall, River Hebert, Cumberland Co.; sister, Beryl (William) Atkinson, Amherst; grandchildren, Tim and Julie Brown, Roxanne Tattersall, Jennifer Dunlop; great-grandchildren, Brittany Brown and Kierden Dunlop; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Carl; sisters, Clara Atkinson and Helen Brown. Cremation has taken
place under the direction of the A.H. Brown Funeral Home, Springhill, from where visitation will be held today from 7-9 p.m. Memorial service 11 a.m. Tuesday, in Southampton United Church, Rev. Lorraine Lampbert and Rev. Elizabeth Davies officiating. DICKESON, Walter Field - 60, 27, Croft St., Amherst, formerly of Amherst Shore, died November 19, 1999, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Amherst Shore he was a son of the late Lorris and Vivian (Field) Dickson. He was a retired fisherman and a former employee of Eddy Hardware, Canadian Assemblies and Waldale Ltd., Amherst. He was overseer of the Lorneville United Church Cemetery for many years. He was a member and past chancellor of Chignecto Lodge 11, Knights of Pythias, Amherst; past district deputy, Knights of Pythias, District 4; grand treasurer of Grand Lodge, Knights of Pythias of the Maritime Domain; the Elizabeth Temple 6, Pythian Sisters, Amherst; Oxford Lodge 26, Knights of Pythias, and was an active member of the Board of Pythian Castle Ltd. Surviving are his wife, the former Mary MacKay; daughters, Kimberly MacKenzie, Norma O'Brien, Amherst; an aunt; six grandchildren. He was predeceased by daughter, Carloyn Yorke; brother, Harold. CARTER, Ella Mae - 73, Highcrest Nursing Home, formerly of 11 Lorne Street, Springhill, passed away Saturday, November 20, 1999, in the All Saints Hospital, Springhill. Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Emma (Ralph-Godfrey) Thompson. She was an adherent to the St. Andrew's Wesley United Church, Springhill. She was educated in Springhill Schools and graduated a registered nurse from Moncton City Hospital in 1947. She worked 32 years in All Saints Hospital, Springhill, where the last 15 years as third floor supervisor and retired in 1979 due to ill health. She is survived by her husband, Harold, at home; son, Robert (Sandra), Springhill; brother, John Godfrey, Coquitlam, B.C.; grandchildren, Philip and Stacey Carter, Springhill; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, George, Douglas, Raymond, Harold and Garfield Thompson, Leo, Harold and James Godfrey; sisters, Ethel and Buelah Godfrey. Cremation has taken place under the direction of A.H. Brown Funeral Home, Springhill, from where visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. today, funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Rev. HARVIE, Bessie R. - 98, Smith Avenue, Parrsboro died, November 20, 1999, at home. Born in Parrsboro, she was a daughter of the late Archibald and Rebecca (Yorke) Alexander. She was a member of Trinity United Church, Parrsboro and a life member of The Salvation Army Home League. Surviving are daughter, Charlotte Henwood, Parrsboro; four grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson. She was predeceased by her husband, Wesley; daughters, Pauline, Hazel; son, Robie; sisters, Lida, Lena; brothers, Wiley, Morton, Lloyd; a grandchild in infancy; a great grandchild in infancy. MacLEOD, Dorothy Janet - 80, Upper Main Street, Parrsboro, died Tuesday, November 23, 1999, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born December 4, 1918 in Parrsboro, she was a daughter of the late John (Jack) and Janet (Maxwell) Gilbert. She was employed with Eaton's, Halifax for two years, The Tweed Shop for five years and later with Simpson's for 16 years, from where she retired in 1982. She was a avid quilter and seamstress. She was a member of the South Cumberland Community Care Centre Ladies Auxiliary, and a former member of the Rebecca Lodge. She is survived by brothers, Reginald Gilbert and his wife Adel, Springhill; Scott Gilbert and his wife Margie, Halifax; nieces, Janet Sterling, Andrea Yorke, both of Parrsboro; Chris Patterson, Tatamagouche; Beth Spratt, Halifax; Adel Dorothy Gilbert, Detroit; nephews, David Gilbert, Brantford, Ont.; John Gilbert, Sussex; Andy Gilbert, Stephen Gilbert, Kent Gilbert, all of Halifax; Scott Gilbert, Alabama. Born in Ward's Brook, he was a son of the late Semore and Maude (Ells) McCully. He was a retired seaman, shipbuilder and lumberman. He is survived by daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Jenkins, Parrsboro; daughter-in -law, Laura Smith, Barrie, Ont.; brother, Lorne, Parrsboro; sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Newcombe, Parrsboro; Mrs. Carrie Legere, Amherst; Mrs. Marita Hannah, Springhill; Mrs. Ruby Allen, Fox River; granddaughters, Debbie Ellis, Brandon McCully, Erin McCully, Jackie Jenkins; grandsons, Larry McCully; David Jenkins; great granddaughters, Brittany McCully, Leslie Stoneham; great-grandsons, Jimmy Ellis, Clinton Stoneham; several nieces and nephews, including Rev. HARTFORD, Irene Margaret - 78, Victoria Manor, Amherst, died December 1, 1999, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Olive (Vienneau) Dupuis. She worked for Kelly's Ambulance and Taxi Service as bookkeeper and dispatcher for several years and the 7-Eleven store in Amherst. She was an avid sports fan especially hockey and baseball. Surviving are daughter, Beverley Owocki, Etobicoke, Ont.; son, Roddy, Keswick, Ont.; sister, Blanche Austin, Amherst; brother, Eugene, Toronto, Ont.; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by grandson, Ian Lusby; brothers, Henry, Archie in infancy; sisters, Sally, Georgie. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. HOEG, C. Earl - 71, Joggins, died December 1, 1999, at home. Born in Joggins, he was a son of the late Lawson and Violet (Vance) Hoeg. He worked as a fabricator and welder for Fawcett Enterprise, Sackville, N.B. He loved entertaining his family with guitar and piano. He also enjoyed watching T.V. Wrestling and playing cards in the evening. He was one of the few who enjoyed reading the news, histories, voracious learning of all kinds. Surviving are daughter, Kathy VanSnick, Joggins; sons, Bruce, Moncton; Wayne, Kevin, Joggins; sisters, Isoabel Miller, River Hebert; Jean Joel, Amherst; Flora Doucet, Amherst; Donna Melanson, River Hebert; 11 grandchildren. STILES , Silas Ezra - 87, Tyndal Road, passed away Friday, December 3, 1999, in All
Saints Hospital, Springhill. Born in East Amherst he was a son of the late Silas and Etta (Smith) Stiles. Following school he worked in different sawmills in Cumberland, Colchester and Westmoreland Counties for 15 years before going to work at Canada Car in Amherst. He then worked on survey crews for the Nova Scotia Department of Highways until his retirement in the early 70's. During this time he also owned and operated a farm until later years. He played hockey for the East Amherst Hurricanes during the 30's and 40's. He is survived by his wife, the former Audrey Tucker; daughters, Joan Carter (Maynard), Amherst; Marjorie Cuvilier (Albert), Lake Echo; June Weeks (Charles), Port Howe; Doreen Seaman (Brian), Lake Killarney; sons, Silas (Myrna), Midgic, N.B.; Percy (Christine), Tyndal Road; brothers, Gerald, Fox Ranch Road; Roland, Whitby, Ont.; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by an infant son, Ronald; sisters, Margaret, Pearl Lewis, Jean Norhtrup, Vivian Robinson, Evelyn Guitard, Eva; brothers, John, Herbert, Edward, Albert, Arnold, Leon. CLARK, Donald Walkingshaw - 64, Gulf Shore, Cumberland Co., died December 8, 1999, at his home. Born in Montreal, he was a son of the late Daniel and Jessie Clark. He was a member and warden of St. George's Anglican Church, Pugwash. He had been a summer resident of the Gulf Shore for the better part of the 50 years and in 1996 he and his wife moved from Montreal to the Gulf Shore to set up permanent residence, after his retirement. He had a wonderful talent for woodworking, perfecting this over many years. Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Ellen Elliott. Memorial service 2 p.m. Friday, in St. George's Anglican Church, Pugwash, Rev. Bruce Ward officiating. Burial at a later date in Robertson Cemetery, Gulf Shore. No flowers by request. TAYLOR, Carman A - 50, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., formerly of River Philip, Cumberland Co., died December 7, 1999, in the Broward General Medical Center, Fort Lauderdale. Born in Oxford, Cumberland Co., he was the son of Elsie (Dickey) Taylor, River Philip and the late Alton Taylor. He was a graduate of Oxford Regional High School. He worked in Florida for the past several years. Surviving are sisters, Sandra Mitchell, Oxford; Janey McDougall, Lower Sackville; Marla Ross, River Philip. THOMPSON, Olive Amelia - 87, Gables Lodge, Amherst, formerly of Oxford, Cumberland Co., died Thursday, December 9, 1999, in the lodge. Born in Oxford, she was the daughter of the late William S. and Bertha A. (Crawford) Wood. She was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church, Oxford, a former member of St. James' Ladies Circle and St. James' A.M.S. In her early years she was active with her husband in the family oil business and farming operation and she was an avid gardener until her health failed. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving is a daughter, Verna M. and husband Douglas A. MacLeod, Oxford; sons, Douglas W. and wife Carole A., Oxford; Charles N. and wife Glenda, Kentville, Kings Co.; Henry I. and wife Deborah, Oxford; grandchildren, Tania, Kent, Erin, Chris, Stephen, Lindsay, Jenna, Coltan Thompson. She was predeceased by her husband, R. Warren Thompson in 1987; brother, Orland Wood; brother-in-law, Chappell T. Thompson. MASTROVITO, Hilda Vanessa Pearl - 69, Kimberly Court, Amherst, died December 9, 1999, in Dr. George L. Dumont Hospital, Moncton, N.B. Born November 14, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Ethel (Lindguard) Crossman. She was formerly employed with The Bank of Montreal. She is survived by her husband, John Mastrovito; son, Lindsay Donald Allen Crossman, Orangeville, Ont.; sisters, Elaine Brissette, Kirkland Lake, Ont.; Myrna Southwick, California; two cherished nieces who were like sisters, Lavinna "Viney" DeWitt and Pauline McCully; grandson, Jason; several other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brother, Cecil; sisters, LaRena, Muriel MacAloney and Evelyn Perry. No visiting hours or funeral service by request. Interment will be in Cote De Neige Cemetery, Montreal, at a later date. The memorial of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. McLELLAN, W. L. "Bill" - 82, formerly of Dublin Street, died December 8, 1999, in Fairview Villa. Born in Advocate, he was a son of the late Donald and Janet (Ballantyne) McLellan. He was an accountant graduating from Business College, Belleville, Ont. He retired in 1982 from the Department of Social Services as director of audit services. He previously was secretary-treasurer, director and comptroller of Cousins Ltd. He served five years at Army Headquarters and later joined No. 3 Canadian Intelligence Training Corps (militia) retiring in 1963 with the rank of captain. He was an active member and former elder of St. John's United Church, past president of the Waegwoltic Club, treasurer and director of the Preston Area Housing Fund. He was a former member of the Mayflower Curling Club and Truro Horsemen's Club. He was a member of Masonic Lodge, Royal Sussex No. 6 and the Scottish Rite, Victoria Lodge of Perfection receiving his 50th year jewel in 1997. He was predeceased by his wife, Olivia (MacKay) of Bedford and a brother, Roy of New Jersey. Surviving are daughters, Janet Smith, Halifax; Marianne Frank, Bedford; Verna Keenan, Mississauga, Ont.; brothers, Gerald, Advocate, Reginald, Victoria, B.C.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandsons. ALLBON, Iradell Marcella - 90, Highcrest Nursing Home, Springhill, passed away Sunday, December 12, 1999, in Highcrest. Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late John and Marybelle (Langille) Brown. She was a member of the St. Andrews Wesley United Church in Springhill, past member of Unit No. 1 UCW, past member of the church choir and founder and leader of the Springhill Senior Citizens Kazoo Band. She enjoyed crafts, knitting, sewing, crocheting, needle point, flower gardening and her family. She is survived by a daughter, Janice (William) Barrett; grandchildren, Clarie (Richard) Sims; Sharon Barrett and James Barrett; great-grandchildren, Richard and Tanya Sims, all of London, Ont.; several cousins. LeBLANC, Doris Katherine - 82, Gables Lodge, Amherst, formerly of Joggins, passed away in the lodge on Monday, December 13, 1999. Born in Purcell's Cove, Halifax Co., she was a daughter of the late Wallace and Marion (White) McLean. She was a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church and the CWL. She had taught at River Herbert District High School. She is survived by son, Paul (his wife Marilyn), Lloydminster, Alta.; grandchildren, Denise (her husband Karl) and Jean-Paul and great-grandchildren, Stephen, Lain and Alexis. She was predeceased by her husband, Thaddee; and a granddaughter, Ann. Her remains are resting in Furlong's Funeral Home, Amherst, with visitation today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. from where parish prayers will be held at 8 p.m. today. LOCKHART, Lois Louise - 69, South Pugwash, died December 15, 1999, in North Cumberland Memorial Hospital, Pugwash. Born in Pugwash, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Ethel (Williams) Sarson. She was a member of the Silver Spray Rebekah Lodge 1, Pugwash and an adherent of the Wesley St. Matthew's United Church, Pugwash. Surviving are her husband, George; daughters, Judy Lockhart, New Glasgow; Betty Blackie, Debert; Sandra Pelham, Debert; sons, Eric, Belmont; Myron, New Glasgow; Brian, South Pugwash; sisters, Doreen Langille, Eva Polley, Pugwash; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. MacCLEAVE, James R - 85, formerly of Oxford, died Thursday, December 16, 1999, in Gables Lodge, Amherst. Born in Stewiacke, Colchester Co., he was a son of the late David and Margaret (McLean) MacCleave. He taught school for over 36 years of which 25 years were at Oxford Regional High School, retiring as vice principle. His favorite pastime was making and playing violins. He was a life member of the Maritime Fiddlers' Association. He enjoyed curling, fishing, and gardening. He was a member of the Pioneer Heritage Seniors Club of Oxford; the Wimburn Masonic Lodge, Oxford; past member and Major of the Oxford Cadet Corps. He was presented with the Bicentennial Medal from the Town of Oxford for his work with the Oxford Cadet Corps and as a teacher. He was a member of the Trinity United Church, Oxford. Surviving are his wife, the former Evelyn Tower; son, James R. and wife Sue Ann, Bridgewater; daughter, Dr. Anne MacCleave, Halifax; granddaughter, Jordan Elizabeth MacCleave, Bridgewater. He was predeceased by daughter, Jennie Elizabeth; brothers, Walter and Howard; sister Jennie. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. FINLEY, Blair Ephriam - 85, East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash, and formerly of Oxford, Cumberland Co., died December 20, 1999, in the East Cumberland Lodge. Born in Linden, Cumberland Co., he was a son of the late Albert E. and Amelia H. (Rushton) Finley. As a young man he operated the family farm along with his brother Arthur, Lake Killarney, Cumberland Co. He moved to Hartford, Connecticut in the mid 1950's, where he was employed with G. Fox Department Store for approximately 10 years, until the time of his retirement at which time he moved back to Oxford. He was an avid fisherman, trapper and gardener, with a great love for the outdoors. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are stepdaughters, Grace, Jean, Elizabeth "Teeny"; stepsons, Wallace "Wally", Lester "Buster", all of USA. RUSHTON, Reverend Vincent Vernon - 79, 1026 Evergreen Avenue, New Minas, died Sunday, December 19, 1999, at home. Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late Warren and Almeda (Embree) Rushton. He graduated from Acadia Divinity College and was ordained in the Billtown Baptist Church in 1943. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Masters of Arts Degree, a Bachelor of Divinity and a Masters of Divinity, a Bachelors Degree in Education, and a Masters of Education, all from Acadia University. He also studied at the Andover Newton Seminary near Boston. He was a senior pastor in the charges of Billtown, Lawrencetown, New Ross, Canning and Bedford. He served in the missionary service in Canada and India for 20 years. He was a founding member of the Atlantic Baptist Fellowship and compiled his own personal archives on Atlantic Baptist activities. He taught school and held the position of guidance counselor at Cornwallis District High School as well as teaching at King's Regional Vocational School and Kodiakanal School, South India. He served as chaplain at Camp Aldershot during the 1960's and Chaplain of the Naval Cadets in Canning. He was a member of St. George's Masonic Lodge, Wolfville, was an avid photographer and loved working with people. He is survived by his wife, the former M. Jean Quigg; son, Robert and wife Barbara, New Minas; sister, Ula Noiles, Newport, Hants Co.; brother, Caleb, Springhill; granddaughters, Christianne and Heather. Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of Eileen Bursey, Amherst and the late George Bursey. Erna graduated from Victoria General Hospital Nurses Training in 1972 where she received her RN. She first worked at Sackville Memorial Hospital, Sackville, N.B. and was currently employed at Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. She is survived by her husband, George; daughter, Krista Atkinson, Truemanville; sons, Jody, Truemanville; Jason, Amherst; sisters, Gladys Atkinson (Jack), Amherst; Cathy Wilson (Steve), Amherst; granddaughter, Sarah; several nieces and nephews. HAMILTON, William Garrison - 88, Pugwash, formerly of Wallace, Cumberland Co., passed
away December 31, 1999, in East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. Born in Pictou, he was a son of the late Howard Seymour and Annie Florence (Garrison) Hamilton. He was a Mining Engineering graduate of the Nova Scotia Technical College and lived and worked in Montreal, Que. prior to his retirement. McKIM, Raymond Docherty "Doc" - 79, 47 Prince Albert St., Pugwash, died January 1, 2000, in North Cumberland Memorial Hospital, Pugwash. Born in Wallace Bay, Cumberland Co., he was a son of the late Robert and Annie (Docherty) McKim. He was a decorated veteran of the Second World War, having signed up for service in December 1942 and served overseas from January 1944-March 1946 with the 129 Airfield-39 Reconnaissance Wing. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 60, Pugwash. Following his wartime service he first worked as an independent trucker and later for McNamara Marine, Ontario finally retiring with McKeil Marine, Ontario where he worked as both a marine engineer and tugboat operator. Surviving are his wife, the former Claire Withrow; one niece; four nephews. SCOTT, Jack Edward - 82, Amherst, died January 1, 2000, in Gables Lodge. Born in Amherst he was a son of the late James and Elsie (Lewis) Scott. He was an employee of En-Heat Ltd. in Amherst for 42 years until his retirement in 1982. He was an adherent of the Salvation Army and a former member of their men's group. SMITH, Adelia Emma Handspiker - 73, Pugwash, formerly of Amherst, passed away Saturday evening January 1, 2000, in the East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. Born in Westport, she was a daughter of the late Leander and Violet (Hazelton) Handspiker. She was a proofreader at Ronald's Federated in Montreal for 20 years before her retirement. She is survived by sons, Peter (Sharon), Amherst Head; David Emile (Sharon Carroll), Scarborough, Ont.; sisters, Betty (Mrs. Ronald Jackson), Shelburne; Janet (Mrs. Karl Donovan), Ingonish; Vickie (Mrs. Fred Bates), Digby; grandchildren, Mark, Halifax; Vanessa (Mrs. Greg Jones), Amherst; Andrea, Amherst Head. She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Mary Anna Louise; brothers, David and Jackie and her companion, Ray Tremblay. SARSON, Charles Henry - 83, 66 Willow St., Amherst, and formerly of 9 Morris St., Springhill and Pugwash, died on Friday, December 31, 1999, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in Linden, Cumberland Co., he was a son of the late Daniel and Ella (Stewart) Sarson. He was a member of the St. Andrews-Wesley United Church, Springhill, and a member of the Laurie Masonic Lodge 70, AF&AM in Springhill, having received his 50-year jewel in 1994. For a number of years, he owned and operated a convenience store in Springhill and following this, he served as the registrar of deeds for Cumberland County serving in the Amherst office, from where he retired in 1980. He spent his lifetime devoted to his family and to the Masonic Order. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his wife, the former Ethel E Phillips; sons, Douglas (Shelley) Sarson, North Bay, Ont. and Donald (Cathy) Sarson, Amherst; a grandson, Dylan Sarson, Amherst. He was predeceased by sisters, Mrs. Velma Allen and Mrs. Jean Allen and by brothers, Donald Sarson and Gerald Sarson. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. tonight in A.H. ADAMS, Joseph Norman - 68, Westchester, Cumberland Co., died January 1, 2000, at his home in Westchester. Born in Westchester, Cumberland Co., he was a son of the late Leander and Bertha M. (Wark) Adams. As a young man he was employed in the lumbering industry, he then joined the military in 1954 and served in the military until 1957. Upon returning from the military he was employed as a lumberman until the time of his retirement. He was an adherent of the Westchester Wesleyan Church. Surviving are daughters, Ms. Debbie M. (Adams) Crawford, Stewiacke, Colchester Co.; Miss Gloria H. Adams, Dartmouth. SMITH, Thelma Evelyn - 85, East Amherst, died January 3, 2000, in Highland View Regional
Hospital, Amherst. Born in Port Elgin, N.B., she was a daughter of the late Richea and Bertha
Fillmore. She was a member of the Shinimicas United Church and an avid supporter and honorary member of the UCW for many years. She had taught Sunday School, Mission Band, Explorers and supported the Red Cross. She had been a cook in many logging camps and had run several boarding houses in Amherst. She had lived in Ontario where she had run a boarding house and worked for Martin's Frozen Foods. Surviving are adopted daughters, Muriel Smith, Shinimicas, Barbara Yach, Shawville, Que.; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by her husband, Layton in 1997; foster daughters, Beryl Linton, Shirley Kenney; two grandsons; sisters, Pauline Smith, Agnes Linton; brothers, Ernest, Clem, Lloyd, Bruce. SMITH, Lauraine "Chippy" - 49, 2 Princess St., Springhill, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 3, 2000, at her residence. Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Shirley (Matthews) MacKinnon. Chippy attended and graduated Springhill High School and St Francis Xavier University, Antigonish. Her working career commenced at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax and after her marriage, she lived in Cape Breton before moving back to Springhill, where she and Lorne owned and operated Lorne's Men's Wear and later, The Springhill Candy Kitchen. Since 1989, she worked with social services as a caseworker with The County of Cumberland and acting director for The Town of Springhill; co-ordinator for the SAR's Liaison Committee; and until her retirement due to ill health in 1997, as a caseworker with The Town of Amherst. She served on many committees and volunteered her time most recently being secretary to the executive of the Liberal Party for Cumberland South. She enjoyed her family, her many friends and her cottage at the beach in West Pugwash. She is survived by her beloved children, Tammy, Halifax and Trevor, Springhill; brother and best friend, John "Jock" and wife Faith MacKinnon, Dartmouth; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Lorne John "The Big Cheese" Smith; maternal grandmother, Laura Keiver and sister-in-law, Beverly (Smith) Cameron. Visitation 3:30-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today in A.H. She enjoyed making and giving away home made candy at Christmas. She was an avid quilter and knitter. She had a great love of music. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Born in Maccan, he was a son of the late Charles and Mabel (Loring) Wilmot. He owned and operated a grocery store in Oxford Junction, along with being postmaster, delivering mail on a rural route and transporting mail from the Oxford Junction Post Office to the Oxford Post Office for 31 years. He served in the Canadian Army during the Second World War, working in the administrative offices at Kentville and Belleville, Ont. He worked also with C.P. Rail on the telegraph lines. HARRIS, Margaret Adele "Mony" - Died suddenly in her 87th year, in Huntsville, Ont. on the 13 of January, 2000. She was married to W.J. "Jack" Harris, Toronto. Niece of Cyrus S. Eaton, Pugwash, she spent many summers in her home in Pugwash, where with her sister, Billie and her mother, Eva R. Webb, she had been a faithful supporter of her Uncle Cyrus in his endeavors for world peace and was honorary chair of the Pugwash Park Commissioners. She will be fondly remembered by her nine surviving nephews and nieces and their families in Ontario, the United States, Italy and Australia. She will be sadly missed by her great-great-nieces, Julia and Jenny, their mother, Christine, their uncle, Rob and their grandparents, Gianni and Susan Brenciaglia, with whom she had shared so many happy hours in the last year of her life. She will be laid to rest beside her mother and sisters in the Eaton Cemetery, Pugwash Junction at a later date.

Baptist Church, Millvale. Following her husband's passing, she continued to operate the family farm and blueberry growing operation until the time of her passing. Surviving are son, Colin L.B. COOK, Dr. David V. - Kentville, died January 19, 2000. Born in Amherst, he was a son of Gladys (Trenholme) and the late Vaughn Cook. He was a graduate of Gordon Divinity College in Boston, Mass. He received a bachelor of arts degree in 1964 and a masters of religious education in 1969. Recently his educational endeavors lead him to a Doctor of Ministry degree from Acadia Divinity College in 1997. From as early as 1959 he had been involved in pastoral ministry beginning with summer and student pastorates throughout the Maritime Provinces and state of Vermont. It was during his pastorship in Pleasantville, that he married Donna Crouse in October of 1965. His first full time pastorate took him to Highfield St., U.B.C. in Moncton, N.B. as the minister of Christian Education. Subsequent sites of ministry include the Baptist Churches of Brentwood, N.B., Barrington and Salisbury, N.B. In 1985 he assumed the position of Area Minister for UBCAP. He and his family moved to Fredericton as he served as monitor and pastor to more than 100 ministries in Western New Brunswick. His most recent term of service had been as director of Home Missions and Church Planting for UBCAP to which he dedicated tireless hours. Surviving are wife, Donna S. Crouse, Rothesay, N.B.; daughter, Valerie Marshall, Fredericton; sons, Rev. Gordon Cook, Kingston Peninsula; Colin, Bristol, N.B.; one granddaughter. GRANT, Stanley E. - 85, 6 Smith St., Amherst, passed away at home on Saturday, January 22, 2000, at his home. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Cameron and Alberta (Nelson) Grant. Stan loved children and was a co-founder of the Amherst Little League Organization in the early 1950s and volunteered his time to young people's baseball for many years. He was a past master of the Masonic Order, Acacia Lodge 8, Amherst. For his entire working life, Stan was an employee of Maritime Tel & Tel, from where he retired in 1970. He was a loving father and husband and will be sorely missed. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Bertha Annand; son, Rod (wife Joan), Lower Sackville; sisters, Evelyn Marsman and Doris Wallace, both of Truro; granddaughter, Carole, Moncton; several nieces and nephews. His remains have been cremated. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held in Cumberland Memorial Chapel, Amherst, on Tuesday at 2 p.m., Rev. HICKEY, Ethel Jean - 96, formerly of Malagash, Cumberland Co., and Halifax, died January 26, 2000, in East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. Born in East Wallace, she was a daughter of the late Clara (Waugh) (Patton) Browne and C. Tupper Patton. She was a homemaker and spent most of her life in Malagash. She moved to Halifax in 1968 following the death of her husband where she resided with her son until 1995 at which time she became a resident of East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. She was an adherent to Malagash United Church. She is survived by son, Ronald, Malagash; sister, Dorothy (Mrs. Richard Ouderkirk), Lower Sackville; a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James Valentine "Vee" Hickey; sisters, Bernice Noble, Bertha MacKenzie; brothers, Anson in infancy, George. ESTABROOKS, Arnold - 90, 22 Eddy St., Amherst, died January 26, 2000, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in Sackville, N.B., he was a son of the late Edgar and Bessie (Sears) Estabrooks. In his earlier years he operated a trucking business in Amherst. He owned and operated Estabrooks Taxi Service and was manager of Cunningham's Laundromat Service in Amherst. He was a member of the IOGT and the LTBA lodges as well as a member of the Amateur Radio Club. He was a former member of the Amherst Boat Club. NEWTON, Grant W. - 89, Parrsboro and Venice, Fla., died Thursday, January 27, 2000, at home, Parrsboro. Born in Odgensburg, N.Y., he was a son of the late Willis and Agnes (Warr en) Newton. He was a dispatcher with the Newark, New Jersey Fire Department for 25 years. He later was a realtor for 20 years in Morristown, N.J. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 68 years and was a member of the Shrine Banjo Band, Sahib Temple, Sarasota, Florida. He was also a member of the Mad River Masonic Lodge, Waitsfield, Vermont. PASHKOSKI, Stanley - Affectionately known as "Bubba", 72 years, 14 Rodney Branch Road, Leamington, Cumb. Co., passed away Thursday, January 27, 2000, in All Saints Hospital, Springhill, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late Alexander and Wadyslawa (Holc) Pashkoski. He was a former coal miner and one of the bare faced rescue miners during the Springhill Mining disasters of 1956 and 1958 as a result he was awarded the Silver Cross Medal of bravery from the Governor General of Canada. Following his years as a miner he moved to Montreal, Que., where he was employed with Texaco Refineries returning to Nova Scotia in 1969 to work at the Heavy Water Plant in Port Hawksbury. He retired to Springhill in 1989 where we worked as a tour guide at the Springhill Miners Museum until June 1998. He was a member of the St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Springhill; 50 year member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus; current President of the Springhill Chapter of the Nova Scotia Kidney Foundation; member of the Board of Directors of the GOVRC Springhill; member of SOAR (Springhill Oxford Amherst Regions) Health Board; past president of the Springhill Senior Citizens organization; past member of the Cumberland Regional School Board; past member of the Richmond County School Board; past member of the Louisdale Lions Club; former player and coach of both hockey and baseball teams at various local and provincial levels and former Scout Leader. TABOR, John Robert "Jack" - 66, 101 McGee Street, Springhill passed away suddenly on Friday January 28, 2000, in All Saints Hospital, Springhill. Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late Arthur David and Annie Elizabeth (MacPhee) Tabor. Educated in the Springhill school system. An avid sports fan and as a youth he was involved with Boy Scouts. His early years were spent as a coal miner and was one of the bare faced rescue miners during the Springhill mining disasters of 1956 and 1958 as a result the Carnagie Medal was awarded to the Town of Springhill. He worked as a stage hand at CBC Halifax; was a member and Chapel Steward of the St. Andrew's-Wesley United Church, Springhill; was the last candidate to run in Cumberland Centre for CCF political party and a Honorary member of the NDP; member and Past Chancellor of the Cumberland Lodge 5 Knights of Pythias; presenter of the Knights of Pythias Scholarship at the Springhill High School and Nova Scotia Community College, Cumberland Campus; organizer of the Davis Day Ceremonies annually; President of the Miners Memorial Club; President organizer of the Mine Workers Pension Club; volunteer worker at weekly Rotary suppers; helped organize and participated in the Springhill West End Day; avid gardener, enjoyed his cottage at Diligent River and enjoyed being with his family but above all he enjoyed being a father to his grandchildren. BLAIR, Janis C. "Jan" - 83, Advocate Harbour, and formerly of New Prospect, died Wednesday, February 2, 2000, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst, after a brief illness. Born in New Brunswick, N.J., she was a daughter of the late Cunningston Drysdale and Iva (Davis) Black. She was a well known ceramic artist for over 60 years. She owned and operated Hidden Falls and Gift Shop for the past 20 years. She is survived by two daughters, Heather Boddy and her husband, Douglas, Advocate Harbour; Iva Roger de Coverley, Laconia, New Hampshire; sons, Earl Hall and his companion, Linda, Bordentown, N. J.; John Hall and his companion, Connie, Watertown, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson. She was predeceased by a grandson, Lawrence DeVuyst. SIDDALL, Belle Marie - 100, East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash, Cumberland Co., and formerly of Oxford, Cumberland Co., died Monday, February 7, 2000, in the lodge. Born in Little River, Cumberland Co., she was a daughter of the late Samuel A. and Hulda A. (Thompson) Siddall. She
was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was employed with Factory Mutual Insurance Company, in Boston, Mass., having started on September 26, 1926 and retiring May 1,1964. She returned to Oxford in September of 1965. She was a member of Tremont Temple Baptist Church in Boston having joined in 1933 and she was an adherent of the Oxford United Baptist Church. She was a former member of the Colfax Rebekah Lodge 7, Oxford, having received her 50 year jewel. Surviving are nieces, Elinor and husband Kenneth Rogers and Mrs. Grace Evans, all of Oshawa, Ont.; Barbara and husband Peter Lake, Courtice, Ont.; nephew,

COULTER (Battye), Catherine Jessie - 83, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2000, in Halifax. Born in Wallace Bridge, she was a daughter of the late J. Willliam and Jessie (Sutherland) Battye.
Catherine was a graduate of Acadia University and received her nursing degree from John Hopkins University, Baltimore Maryland. Surviving are sons, John and wife Terry; grandchildren, Carolyn and Donald, Edmonton; and David and wife Patricia; grandchildren, James and Christine, Toronto. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald J. and sisters, Velma Wheaton and Doris Gruber. A memorial service will be held in J. A. SHANNON, James Edward "Shinny" - 87, Amherst, died February 9, 2000, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in Ireland, he was a son of the late Patrick and Melvina (Godin) Shannon. He was a Second World War veteran with the North Nova Scotian Highlanders. He was a natural musician who could play any instrument, banjo, piano, fiddle, guitar, accordian. He enjoyed card playing. BORON, Stanley - 83, Thompson Road, Oxford, Cumberland Co. died Sunday, February 13, 2000. Born in Joggins, Cumberland Co., he was the son of the late Stanley and Anna (Ambicka) Boron. He was a veteran of the Second World War, (1941- 1945), serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force, in Newfoundland, Scotland, England, Burma, and Ceylon. Following his discharge with the rank of Warrant Officer, first class, from the armed services, he owned and operated Oxford Grist Mills, he later became manager of the Oxford Co-op, retiring after 35 years.
He served several terms on the Oxford Town Council; served on the Cumberland District School Board and was past chief of the Oxford Volunteer Fire Department. At the time of his passing he was a member of the Knights of Columbus; life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 36; life member of the Oxford Marksman Club; and a communicant of St. John The Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Springhill. DOUCET (Nelson), Brenda Elizabeth - 39, Fenwick, passed away peacefully in the Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst, on Sunday February 13, 2000, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Amherst on February 14, 1960 she was a daughter of Owen and Shirley (Ripley) Nelson. Brenda enjoyed and shared her love of crafts with family and friends. She was a member and taught Sunday school at Fenwick United Church and was an active member of the community, always happy to lend a hand. Brenda graduated from Amherst Regional High School in 1978. She went on to study business and accounting. She worked at Save Easy and then spent 12 years at Canadian Tire. She left Canadian Tire to work at B.J.'s One Stop. Brenda's warm personality touched many customers at B.J.'s over the seven years. Brenda was a devoted mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend. She will be sadly missed by her husband, Gary; son, Daniel; her parents; sisters, Wanda (Bernard) LeBlanc, Brookdale; Susan (Ronald) Hawkes, Amherst Head; Kim (Alan) LeBlanc,

She was an adherent to The All Saints Anglican Church, Springhill and one of the founding members of the Al-Anon AA Group. She was an avid bingo player and bowler. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and especially her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, John B. FOLEY, Mary E., RN - 91, Oxford, Cumberland Co., died Sunday, February 13, 2000, in North Cumberland Memorial Hospital, Pugwash. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Daniel M.
"Mack" and Margaret C. (Meehan) Duggan. She was a member of St. Cornelius Roman Catholic Church, Streets Ridge, Cumberland Co. She was the president of St. Cornelius Our Ladies Guild. She graduated as a registered nurse from the Roosevelt Hospital in New York City and nursed at the hospital for 20 years. She then returned to Halifax, where she worked as a nurse in a doctors office. In 1952, she married Mr. Cornelius P. "Con" Foley, and they made their home in Streets
Ridge. Following this they moved to Oxford in 1964. She was a member of the Oxford Pioneer Heritage Club and was actively involved with the Oxford unit of the Canadian Cancer Society. She was a former member of the IODE. Surviving are her husband, Cornelius P. "Con" Foley; sister,
Mrs. Elizabeth Redmond, Halifax; a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Mrs. Marie Shaw and Mrs. Katherine Abriel; brothers, Thomas Duggan and John Duggan. She lived most of her early life in the United States and later returned to Nova Scotia, residing in Halifax and Porters Lake. She was a registered nurse and worked at the Children's Hospital in Halifax. Surviving are her sister, United States. She was predeceased by her husband, John Earl Bryant; a sister in infancy. He was past president of Amherst Badminton Club and past member of Amherst Golf and Curling Clubs. For the past 14 years, he and wife Audrey enjoyed their winter home in Lakeland, Fla. She was an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Oxford Branch 36 and a former member of the auxiliary. ISENOR, Lloyd Weldon - 93, Amherst, formerly of Wallace, Cumberland Co., died February 22, 2000, in the Centennial Villa, Amherst. Born in Shubenacadie, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Oressa (McKenna) Isenor. He was a resident of Oxford, Cumberland Co. for most of his earlier years. He was a veteran of the second world war where he joined the North Nova Scotia Highlanders in September 1939 at the outbreak of World War II and served in Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe. He was involved in the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France and was severely wounded on June 15, 1944. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, a member of the North Nova Scotia Highlanders Memory Club, a member of the Federal Superannuates National Association, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Scotia Branch 25, Halifax since 1945. He was also a former member of the Oxford Branch Knights of Pythias and the D.O.K.K. In 1946, after his return from the service, he was employed with the Department of Veteran's Affairs at the Camp Hill Hospital, Halifax for 21 years until his retirement, moving to Wallace, where he resided for 30 years until October of 1995. He then moved to Amherst and took up residence in the Centennial Villa. Surviving are sons, M. Kendall "Ken", Wallace and Florida; Darrell G., Trenton, Ont.; sister, Greta MacLachlan, Wenham, Mass; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Ella "Nell" F. LOGGIE, Ethel May - 89, Wellington Street, Miramichi (Loggieville), formerly of Amherst, died February 22, 2000, in Miramichi Regional Hospital. Born in Loggieville, May 17, 1911, she was a daughter of the late W. R. Wilson Loggie and Annie M. (Dickson) Loggie. She was a member of Knox United Church, Miramichi, and attended Trinity-St. Stephen's United Church, Amherst and was a member of the Joy Group of that church. She was a 1935 graduate in music from Mount Allison University, Sackville, and was well known and respected as a musician and music teacher. Until 1945, when she moved to Amherst, she taught piano and school music in Newcastle and piano in Loggieville and Chatham. She was also organist and choir director at St. Andrews Anglican Church and St. James and St. Johns United Church, in Newcastle. In Amherst, she taught school music for 31 years, retiring in 1976. She was also organist and choir director at First Baptist Church, Amherst, for 33 years. She taught piano in Amherst for part of that time. She was a member of the N.S. Registered Music Teachers' Association. Surviving are sister-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy Loggie,
Miramichi; as well as several cousins. She was predeceased by brother, J.D. Loggie and infant sisters, Ruth Jean, Winnifred Roberta. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, in Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St. Funeral 2 p.m. Friday in Knox United Church. Burial in family lot at Pine Grove Cemetery in the spring. ROSS, William Kent "Bill" - 71, Lakeside Manor, Upper Nappan, died February 26, 2000, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Porter) Ross. He served with the Royal Canadian Army and was a former employee of Canada Car, Amherst. He had worked as a carpenter throughout the area for many years and then as a cook at Steamboat's and the Royal Donut Hole. He was a former member of the local branch of the Saint John Ambulance Association. Surviving are his former wife, Dorothy (Downey) Ross, Amherst; daughter, Wendy White, Amherst; sons, Ronnie, Jerry, Amherst; Donnie, Edmonton, Alta.; sisters, Anna MacDonald, Springhill; Maudie Kent, Dartmouth; brothers, Harold Ross, Springhill; Tom Mack, Amherst; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. He was predeceased by his foster parents, Wallace and Marguerite Moir; son, Dale; brothers, Danny, Bob, Ronald. Cremation has taken place. Graveside service to be held at a later date in Truemanville Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society through Furlong's Funeral Home, Amherst.

SPENCE, Nina Lillian - 87, 214 McGee St., Springhill, died February 25, 2000, in All Saints Hospital, Springhill. Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late William Abner and Sarah Ann Elizabeth (Moore) Best. She was a member of the All Saints Anglican Church, Springhill. She enjoyed watching television, reading, flowers and her home. Surviving are sisters, Audrey Howat, Virden, Man. and Springhill; Mona Lindsay, Victoria, B.C.; Vera Arseneault, Oakville, Ont.; brother, Raymond Best, Springhill; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Archibald Victor Spence; brothers, Roy, William; sisters, Doris, Lola in infancy. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday, both in A.H. WARREN, Laurence Whitney - 59, Lower Maccan Road, died February 27, 2000, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in York Settlement, he was a son of the late Herman and Evelyn (Dowe) Warren. He worked as a woodsman most of his life and as a coal miner for a few
years. During the past year, he worked for Dowe Concrete Products. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards. He was also a horseman. Surviving are his wife, the former Faye Jean Dowe; daughters, Cheryl Leah Barnes, Deborah Ann Warren, Victoria, B.C.; son, Stephen Charles
Warren, at home; brothers, Sydney, James, Parrsboro; William, Maccan; half-brothers, Ralph, Lewis, Ontario; one granddaughter; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Elizabeth, Louise; a half-sister (in infancy); brothers, John Warren, Darrell Bowden. BENNETT, Bernard S. - 81, Fox River, Cumberland Co. died February 28, 2000, in the South Cumberland Community Care Centre, Parrsboro. Born in Fraserville, he was a son of the late Ervin and Beatrice (Morris) Bennett. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving with the Royal Canadian Army. He was a retired lumberman. Surviving are his wife, the former Francis Shaw; son, Peter, Parrsboro; stepdaughter, Laurine Pettis, Fox River; sister, Bella Allen, Toronto; brothers,
Basil, Pennfield; Hughie, Howard, Williams Lake, B.C.; eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by sisters, Beulah, Leola, Clara, Daisy; brothers, Wyman, Donald, Roger, Russell, Vernon. BABINEAU, Olive M. - 90, Amherst died at home February 29, 2000. Born in Amherst she was a daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Cormier) Dupuis. She was a chartered member of the Nativity of Our Lady CWL for over 43 years. She had been recognized with the highest award a CWL member has received which is the Maple Leaf Pin. She was also presented with the Medal of Diocesan Merit by Bishop Austin Burke of Halifax. Surviving are daughter, Bertha Cormier, Amherst; sons, William, Truro; Raymond, Moncton, N.B.; Paul, Westville; sisters, Edna Comeau, Kay Bourgeois, Amherst; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Edgar; an infant son, John; daughter, Elizabeth; brothers, Edward, Lawrence; sisters, Bertha McLeer, Artie Bourque. FILLMORE, Myra H. - 87, Oxford Junction, Cumberland Co., died Tuesday, February 29, 2000, in East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. Born in Thomson Station, Cumberland County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Gertrude (Larner) MacDonald. She was a care taker of the CNR Station at Oxford Junction for many years and operated a boarding house for CNR section men. She was a member of St. Andrews United Church, Oxford Junction, and a life member of the UCW. She was a member of Oxford Pioneer Heritage Club. Surviving are sons, Donald and wife Barb, Thunder Bay, Ont.; Eugene, Oxford Junction; daughters, Shirley and husband Otto Amos, Chipman, N.B.; Karen-Ann Doherty, Juniper, N.B. and Brenda and husband Joe Morin, Montreal, Que.; sister-in-law, Hazel MacDonald, Oxford and Grace MacDonald, Brampton, Ont.; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Fillmore; brothers, Gordon, Thomas, Roy, Murray, Hugh and sisters, Edna, Olive, Lou and Marie; daughter-in-law, Frances Filmore and son-in-law, Bennie Doherty. VANCE, Gordon Hector - 54, Joggins, died February 29, 2000, in the Dr. George Dumont Hospital, Moncton, N.B. Born in Joggins, he was a son of Charlotte Mary (Eagles) Vance, Joggins and the late Andrew Vance. In his early years he worked for Fawcett and Enterprise Foundries in
Sackville, N.B. He also worked at General Homes, Amherst and until his illness worked for Poly Cello. He was an avid dart player. In his younger years played with the Joggins Keith's Cubs. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and watching sports on television. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 4, Joggins. Surviving are his wife, the former Sandra Mary VanSnick; daughter, Michelle Mary Belliveau; son, Carl Gordon Vance, River Hebert; brothers, Charles Vance, Bernard Vance, Joggins; sisters, Mary Vance, Violet VanSnick, Joggins, Francis Card, River Hebert; several nieces and nephews; four grandchildren. He was predeceased by one brother and one sister in infancy. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, and 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Campbell's Funeral Home, Amherst.
