Lalia Marjorie Baird was born in Barronsfield near River Hebert, Cumberland Co., Nova Scotia in 1882 and died in 1962. She was a very hard worker on their dairy farm but found time to keep this wonderful journal of the births, deaths and marriages of friends and relatives over a span of 45 years.
Her mother was Marjorie A. Rawlson and her father was Harding T. Smith who was also a farmer in Barronsfield.
She married Jeptha Edwin Baird who was born in 1879 and died in 1960. They owned a farm called "Grand Mere' which was the last dairy farm in River Hebert next to the border of Barronsfield.
They had one child William Harding Baird born 1904 and died 1982 who married Inez Leora Smith who was born 1906 and died 1997. He was a Creamery Manager and in later years, a mine manager in the River Hebert Coal Company.
William and Inez had two children who died in child birth and one living son, Charles Edwin Baird who resides at 40 Mowat Crescent, Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia B4C 2A3 in 3 Sept. 2000 and has in his possession the original Journal. Charlie's family has done extensive work on the Baird Family.Note from Margie Tuttle who extracted the material from Lalia Baird's Journal : I did not attempt to correct or edit any of the names or dates and will present my colored laser color copy to the Ottawa House Museum in Parrsboro where it can be viewed.
