STEWART'S MILLS, Antigonish County

When the first settlers came to the Ohio River about 1800 they slept near the
place later called Stewart's Mill.  Charles Stewart was the miller there in 1868.

The school section extended southward from the boundaries of Cross Roads,
Ohio, to the St. Mary's line but it was eventually consolidated with Cross Roads,
Ohio.  Dr. George Murphy (1875-1958).  Minister of Public Health for Nova
Scotia from 1930 to 1933 was a native of this section and attended school
there.  Later many Irish settled the district.
