LORDS VALLEY, AND CEMETERY

Lord House, Lords Valley, PA.

Directions: The Lord House is just 8/10ths of a mile from Rte. 84, Exit 34 (Old Exit No. 9). To get to the cemetery from here, turn left (west) onto the Blooming Grove Turnpike and go one block. Turn left again onto Lords Way and you will see the cemetery on the right. According to the Town office, only life-long residents of Lords Valley may be buried there.

The Lord House at Lord's Valley, now corner of Rte. 739 (right side of house) and Blooming Grove Turnpike. The 84Lumber Co. is just across the street, and Pike Co. Concrete Co., on the opposite corner. In 1810, Dr. Philip P. Monington advertised property available for development and Levi Lord and eleven friends, purchased the property. Levi Lord built this house [brick hotel] with his sons, ca 1850, on the [then] Dingman Choice Turnpike. The building which was also a post office from 1953 - 1955, is currently owned by the Glen Eyre Corp. and is listed on the National Historical Register. The names of the other purchasers of the area property were Levi's friends, Joseph Brooks, Robert Hatton, Samuel Hunt, Wilson Croft, William Whittaker, John Whittaker, Thomas Harselden, Robert Ogden, Abram Johnson, James Powers and William Manly. They all came from England on the same ship in 1809.
