http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/IRL-SLIGO/2000-11/0973202157 List of the people in Sligo that were evicted by Cromwell with no hope of getting either their land back or any land at all back. These were the people that Cromwell believed were the really bad Irish, although some appear to be Anglo-Normans. This has to be qualified as some of them may have been allowed to stay on as lessees on their old land. EYRE, Captain John HOLLSHAW, Edward CROFTON, and William WEBB, Esq were empowered to sett out by lott 63,130 acres in the baronies of Tirera and Carbury, in satisfaction of money due to Cromwell's disbanded officers and soldiers. Ultimately it was extended to the other baronies. The Protestant population of Sligo at this time was 140 After the commission it rose to 481. O'Rorke maintains the Tituladoes were set down on points of vantage, near the chief roads or passes, opposite fords and bridges and in the county town. (Most of Coolavin was already held by the KINGS of Boyle) Mary O'Dowd notes that all catholic landlords officially forfeited their landed possessions. In theory they were to be compensated with lands in other parts of Connacht. A total of fifteen Sligo landlords were given some land in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon The CREANS and John NOLAN received the largest portions because they could prove title and had better legal assistance. Of the Catholic landlords who did not receive land some were executed, some chose to go overseas and it is suggested that many stayed in the county as tenants. On the restoration of Charles II three royal grants seriously reduced the quantity of land held by the soldiers and O'Rorke in 1889 states that "Most of the Cromwellian families have disappeared from the county..." Note: The above list is taken from O'Rorke. All the new proprietors including those who held lands previous to the rebellion of 1641 are in Wood-Martin. Those who already held land and continued as landowners: Bishop's land, Sir George BLUNDELL, Lady BLUNDELL, Earl of CARLINGFORD, Earl of CLANRICKARD, Lord COLLONEY, Earl of CORK, Sir Edward CROFTEN, Henry DOWDEALL, Christopher Ffagan, Mary (Dame) JONES, Lord KINGSTON, Capt.
