Albert Marotta (#1018)
Northern New Jersey POINTers In Person assembled for our sixth meeting on February 7 at the Housing Authority Community Room in Garfield, NJ. Nineteen people attended. The major purpose of our get-together was to formulate by-laws that would organize our group in a tighter fashion.
Annita Zalenski (#39) opened the meeting by reading a letter she received from Bob Chase (#1023 of the Northern California PIP (Chapter #3). He wrote to Annita with a genealogy problem he hoped one of our members could solve. Pat Locasto (#3430) took on the challenge since the question involved research in Hudson County, where he lives. Mr. Chase also asked to become an affiliate member of our group.
Lillian Papas (#2727), presented the treasurer's report which showed that although we were in the black, we needed to build a stronger financial foundation for the future.
Maria Carparelli (#2100) offered to set up a database with the names and areas members of our PIP chapter are researching. Also, she thought she might produce a booklet with the results and distribute copies to those interested.
Al Marotta (#1018) handed out a survey of PIP members that he had composed. Its purpose was to give us an opportunity to learn about each other's research activities. Members were asked to list the research centers they had visited and the sources they had already used. The survey also asked members to describe the biggest obstacles to their research and the areas in Italy where their ancestors lived. Other questions rounded out the survey. We hope this survey will help us plan future presentations according to member interests.
The Bylaws Committee Maria Carparelli (#2100), Pat Locasto (#3430), Geraldine Mola, and Annita Zalenski (#39) prepared the Proposed Bylaws and presented them to our members for a vote. The bylaws were unanimously adopted. The objectives of this organization shall be:
