Joseph PLEDGER born abt. 1735 in Salem Co. New Jersey married on 11 Sep 1762 to Mary MCKEEN. Joseph was then disowned by the Quaker church for marrying out of the faith. He soon left the area around 1765. On 27 July 1769, Joseph and Mary PLEDGER sold Netherland Farm to his uncle Robert JOHNSON. I would like to find evidence showing where Joseph and Mary PLEDGER moved after they left Salem. It is thought that they moved to North Carolina. One cousin of mine thinks they moved to Granville Co. North Carolina and had at least two sons Thomas PLEDGER and Murrell PLEDGER. Murrell may have been born in New Jersey, but Thomas was born in Granville Co. NC.

WILLCOCKSON, WILCOCKS Since the turn of the century efforts have been unsuccessfully made to prove the identity of the father of John Willcockson, who married Daniel Boone's sister, Sarah, in 1742 at Lancaster PA. Seek HAMLER/HAMMLER family between 1740 when Nicolaus Hamler Jr. was listed in the Janeway Account Books and 1802 when my Great-Grandfather, William H. Hamler was born in Sussex County. Nicolaus Jr. had come from Gemmingen, Germany at the age of 17; the family's first stop was New York City, but they moved swiftly southward to Six-Mile-Run on the Raritans in Somerset County, New Jersey. The Hamler family was to spend generations in New Jersey. If you find a "Hamler," it is most likely a relative of mine. The name is often mispelled as "Hambler," "Hombler" and "Homler." They stayed predominantly in northern New Jersey, especially Somerset County, Sussex County and Morris County. Thanks for any help!
