We�re all looking for early ancestors, but most of us don�t expect to find them as early as the folks Mark White will be talking about on January 14, 2018, at the first MCGS meeting of the year. This talk was so well received when Mark first presented it at the DNA workshop in March, he was enlisted as the featured speaker in January.
"Migration Patterns" covers the history of human migration. From our origins in Africa and the start of migration 60 to 65,000 years ago, through more recent times such as the invasion of the Roman Empire, on to modern times, Mark will enlighten us about our beginnings and how we got where we are today.
Mark is a genealogist particularly skilled in the use of the computer and is super-organized, traits that have been serving him well as the current president of MCGS.
Mark has been a member of the MCGS since 1991 and has served on the Education Committee, and with wife Debbie, as co-chair of the Sales Committee for several years. He grew up in the Navesink area of Middletown, attended high school at what is known today as Mater Dei Prep, and graduated from Brookdale Community College.
Mark makes good use of newspaper sites in his search for his ancestors. He sums up his Monmouth forbears this way: "My White ancestors came to Manalapan/Millstone from Berks County, Pennsylvania around 1858. The Bovie side arrived from Germany around the same time and settled in Freehold. The Marlboro ancestors came from Ireland. The earliest was the Kaney branch in the early 1840's. The Griffins arrived around the mid 1850's.
Great-great grandmother Margaret Carr arrived from Ireland about 1858 and married Herman Bovie. They became servants in the Hartshorne household in Freehold.
The Haley, Loftus, Furey branches settled in Keyport/ Matawan area about the mid 1850's,
Mark travels widely with his job implementing new accounts as Project Manager for Vallen Distribution. Vallen contracts with manufacturing plants to manage and procure their maintenance supplies for their machinery and buildings worldwide.
