, the Seitz School was built circa 1860-1879.
This picture was taken during the 1916-1917 school year. Miss Mary Carson is
the teacher; she taught 1st through 3rd grades, and this picture probably
includes the students from those grades.
The Seitz School building, now the home of the Pleasant Valley Fire
Department, had been retired after the building of Kerr School at the top of
the Kittanning Pike hill, sometime in the late 1920s or early 1930s.
Kittanning Pike is at the north-east edge of Sharpsburg.
The little girl at far right on the front row is my mother Anna Mathilda
Fischer, who would have been 6 years old for that school year. During my
mother¹s time, the school served grades 1-8. She identified the known
students below:
