Captain W.B. Anderson Dead

Captain W.B. Anderson, of Anderson station, on the P. & L.E. railroad, who 
was one of the old river captains, died last evening at 7:40 o'clock. 
Captain Anderson in early years was well known to all the rivermen. He was 
engaged in taking coal down the river when that business was yet young. He 
was 75 years of age and lived for many years on the P. & L.E. railroad at 
the station which bears his name. He owned large tracts of land in 
Caesson(?) township. The funeral will be at his late residence to-morrow 
afternoon.

they had 4 children: William Y. who died of typhoid in 1890, Anna Margaret

BASALYGA, NICHOLAS J

Nicholas Basalyga, 57, of Box 61, Wireton, Pa., died suddenly, Tuesday, 
Sept. 20, 1977, in the Salem Community Hospital, Ohio.
For the past 30 years, he was owner and operator of K and N Sales Furniture 
Store in Wireton, served with the U.S. Marine Corps in WWII, a member of 
the Hopewell VFW Post, and a member of the Beaver Lakes Country Club.

Surviving are is widow, Catherine D. Basalyga; his mother, Mary Balog 
Basalyga, South Heights; two sons, James M., Aliquippa, and Robert N., 
Wireton; a daughter, Mrs. Katheryn Deyton, Aliquippa; three brothers, 
Russell, Sioux City, Iowa, Steve, Aliquippa, and Frank, Alberta, Canada; 
and three sisters, Mrs. Mary DeFeo, Mount Vernon, N.T., Mrs. Ann Shoup, 
South Heights, and Mrs. Helen Grillith, Coraopolis.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Copeland 
Funeral Home, Moon Township, where services will be conducted Thursday at 
11 a.m. Interment will be in Coraopolis Cemetery. If desired, contributions 
made to the Heart Fund, in his name, would be appreciated.

COOK, WILLARD C

Mrs. James Davie, Wireton, has received word of the death on Monday of her 
cousin, Willard C. Cook, 74, former resident of Crescent Twp. He died at 2 
a.m. of a heart condition in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Coral 
Gables, Fla., where he was a patient since June. He previously was engaged 
in the insurance business. Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Cook, 
lifelong residents of Wireton and Glenwillard, he celebrated his birthday 
June 6. Funeral services will be held at the Reed Gautier Funeral Home, 
Miami, Fla.

Dorothy Dickey Davie, 70, of Avondale, Ariz., formerly of Wireton, died 
Monday, Aug. 31, 1987, in her home, following an extended illness.
Born July 9, 1917, in Wireton, Pa., daughter of the late Edward A. and Ella 
A. Cummings Dickey, she had been a resident of Avondale for the past 10 
years, and was the wife of the late Eugene A. Davie, who died in 1973.
Surviving are four brothers, Edward A. Dickey, Jr., Palm Bay, Fla.; Dwight 
Dickey, Knox, Pa.; Robert Dickey, Mars, Pa., and William Dickey, Philadelphia.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, James Dickey, in 1978, and 
Charles Dickey, in 1981.
Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the John 
Syka Funeral Home, Inc., 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge, where a service will 
be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. by her nephew, Mr. Donald Dickey.
Interment will follow in Coraopolis Cemetery.

DAVIE, EUGENE ARTHUR

Eugene A. Davie, 46, of Box 155, Wireton, Allegheny Co., PA., died today, 
March 29, 1973, in the Aliquippa Hospital, following an extended illness.
Born July 2, 1926 in Wireton, he had been a lifelong resident of the area, 
and a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. 
Navy, and was a member of the Sharon United Presbyterian Church, 
Glenwillard, and the Aliquippa Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3577.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Dickey Davie; his mother, Mrs. Louwilla 
Davie, Glenwillard; four brothers, Harry, East Liverpool, James, Hopewell 
Township, Robert, Moon Township, and David, Wireton; and four sisters, Mrs. 
Joseph (Ann) Peret, and Mrs. Gerald (Bethea) Erwin, both of Hopewell 
Township, Mrs. Nick (Catherine) Basalyga, Wireton, and Mrs. Bernard 
(Alberta) Davis, Aliquippa.
Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 
7 to 9 p.m. in the Fitzgerald and Syka Funeral Home, Ambridge, where a 
service will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. Rev. Kerry A. Meier, pastor of 
the Riverdale U.P. Church, Glenwillard, will officiate.

Harry William Davie, 62, of Calcutta, Ohio, formerly of Wireton, died 
Sunday, Oct. 5, 1980, in Cleveland Clinic following an extended illness.
Born Feb. 16, 1918, in Wireton, son of Louwilla Hart Davie, Wireton, and 
the late James H. Davie, he retired in February, 1980, from Crucible Steel 
Division of Cold Industries, Midland.
He was a member of Long Run Presbyterian Church, Calcutta.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Leota Laugh Davie; a 
son, William, East Liverpool; a daughter, Carole Davie, East Liverpool; a 
granddaughter, Lisa Davie; three brothers, James, Hopewell Township; 
Robert, Moon Township, and David, Wireton, and four sisters, Mrs. Joseph 
(Ann) Peret, Mrs. Gerald (Bethea) Erwin and Mrs. Bernard (Alberta) Davis, 
all of Hopewell Township, and Mrs. Nick (Catherine) Basalyga, Wireton. He 
was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene, and two nephews.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Dawson 
Funeral Home, West and Fifth Streets, East Liverpool, Ohio, where a service 
will be conducted Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.

James "Jim" Hart Davie, 75, of Manassas, Va., formerly of Hopewell Township 
and Crescent Township, died Friday, Dec. 19, 1997 in Prince William 
Hospital, Manassas., Va.
Born Jan 19, 1922, in Wireton, Allegheny Co., PA., a son of the late James 
H. and Louwilla C. Hart Davie, he was a resident of Manassas for the past 
six months. He was a retired steelworker with Homestead Industries, 
Coraopolis. A former member of the Ohio United Presbyterian Church, 
Hopewell Township, he served in World War II in the U.S. Army 456th 
Anti-Aircraft Battalion, and then in the 90th Infantry. He was in the 
Battle of the Bulge.

Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Joanne Boone Davie; a son and 
daughter-in-law, Edward and Tonya Davie, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two 
daughters and sons-in-law, Jamie and Frank Danker, Palm Beach Gardens, 
Fla., and Carole Jean and Jeffrey Davis, Wahiawa, Hawaii; grandchildren, 
Lynda and Jeffrey Davis, Wahiawa, Hawaii; Jessica Danker, Palm Beach 
Gardens, Fla., and Elise and J.T. Davie, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two brothers 
and sisters-in-law, Robert and June Davie, Moon Township, and David and 
Dottie Davie, Wireton; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Ann Peret, 
Hopewell Township, Catherine Basalyga and Don Hoover, Glenwillard; Bethea 
"Bea" and Gerald Erwin, Hopewell Township, and Alberta and Bernard Davis, 
Hopewell Township; a sister-in-law, Leota Davie, East Liverpool, Ohio, and 
numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry 
W. and Eugene A. Davie.
A service will be conducted today at 11 a.m. in the Darroch Memorial 
Chapel, 2640 Mill St., Aliquippa. The Rev. Ted Dennis, pastor of Ohio 
United Presbyterian Church, will officiate.

and David, Imperial; four daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Ann) Peret, Hopewell Town

John (Jack) Kennedy Davie, 24, 731 Cochran Street, Sewickley, formerly of 
Moon Township, died Thursday, Dec. 2 in Sewickley Valley Hospital.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Dailey Davie; his parents, June Kennedy and 
Robert E. Davie, Moon Township; a brother, Robert E. Davie, Jr., Moon 
Township, and his grandmother, Mrs. James H. Davie, Wireton.
He was a member of Sharon Community Presbyterian Church and Sewickley 
Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons.
Memorial services will be held in Sharon Community Presbyterian Church, 
Carnot, Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

the late Edwin and Anna Margaret Anderson Hart, she was a member of 
Riverdale Presbyterian Church, Glenwillard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Davie, July 24, 1966; 
two sons, Eugene, in 1973, and Harry, in 1980, and two grandsons, Jack 
Davie, in 1971, and Tom Davie, in 1979.
Surviving are three sons, James, Hopewell Township; Robert, Moon Township; 
and David, Wireton; four daughters, Mrs. Donald (Catherine Basalyga) 
Hoover, Glenwillard, and Mrs. Joseph (Ann) Peret, Mrs. Gerald (Bea) Erwin 
and Mrs. Bernard (Alberta) Davis, all of Hopewell Township; 21 
grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.

Thomas A. Davie, 24, of 225 McGovern Boulevard, Wireton, died unexpectedly 
Thursday, March 29, 1979 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., Calif.
He was born Dec. 2, 1954, in Sewickley.

Surviving are his father, David Davie; three sisters, Mrs. Debbie Kurchia, 
Wireton; Sandra Davie, at home, and Mrs. Robert (Karen) Parker, in Germany; 
his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Marjorie Clark, Southwick, Mass., and 
paternal grandmother, Mrs. Louwilla Davie, Glenwillard.
He was preceded in death by his mother in 1972.

DAVIE, WILMA JUNE (KENNEDY)

Wilma June (Kennedy) Davie, 74, a life-long resident of Moon Township, died 
Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, in Allegheny General Hospital.
Born June 21, 1923, in Moon Township, a daughter of the late John and Maude 
McCartney Kennedy, she was a 1941 graduate of Moon High School. She was a 
life-long member of Sharon Community Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert E. Davie Sr.; her son 
and his wife, Robert E. Jr. and Joanne Davie, South Bend, Ind.; and three 
grandchildren, Jackie Marie, Audra and Clay Matthew Davie; her sister, 
Vianna Sohn, Moon Township, and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law 
and sisters-in-law.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, John 
"Jack" Kennedy Davie, on Dec. 2, 1971, and two sisters, Lois Annabell 
Follett and Jane Brogley.
Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Copeland 
Moon Township Funeral Home, 981 Brodhead Road. A service will be held 
Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Sharon Community Presbyterian Church, 522 Carnot

Crescent Township's only Gold Star Mother of World War I, Mrs. Anna 
Margaret Hart, age 88, succumbed last night at 10:45 o'clock at the home of 
her daughter, Mrs. James Davie, Wireton, where she suffered a stroke more 
than a week ago.
Widow of the late Edwin Hart who preceded her in death 15 years ago, Mrs. 
Hart is survived by one daughter, nine grandchildren, and four 
great-grandchildren.

Friends are being received at the Davie home where funeral services will be 
conducted tomorrow afternoon by the Rev. Joseph L. Grimm. Interment will be 
in Allegheny Cemetery.

HART, CATHERINE B (McGINNIS)

Mrs. Kate Hart, widow of the late George B. Hart, died suddenly March 31 at 
the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Lester G. Miller of 
322 East Meyer Avenue, New Castle. She was a member of the Central 
Presbyterian Church and the missionary society of that church.

Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Miller, ten grandchildren and eight great 
grandchildren. Besides her husband, who died in 1938, she was preceded in 
death by a daughter, Mrs. Louis G. Rudesill and a son, Eugene Hart. The 
Harts were form many years residents of Coraopolis where Mr. Hart was in 
the real estate business.

Services were held last Thursday in the Meyers Funeral Home with the Rev. 
Henry B. Strock, Jr., in charge. Interment was in the Coraopolis Cemetery.

HART, HARRY ANDERSON

Memorial services for Harry Anderson Hart, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin A. 
Hart, who was killed in action somewhere in France on Sunday, September 
29th, will be held in the Riverdale Presbyterian Church at Glenwillard 
Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. He entered the service of his country 
September 20, 1917, and was trained at Camp Lee and later at Camp Meade, 
after volunteering for overeas service. He was later sent to England and 
when he met his death, was serving as a member of Co. B, 301st Battalion 
Heavy American Tank Corps with the Brittish Expeditionary Forces. Before 
his entry into the service he was employed on the offices of the Jones & 
Laughlin Steel Co., at Woodlawn. Company E, P. R. M., will attend the 
service in full strength and participate in the ceremonies.

HOOVER, HERBERT DON

Herbert Don Hoover, 75, of Crescent, Pa., died Saturday, July 21, 2001 at 
Vencor Hospital, Oakdale, Pa.
Born June 2, 1926, in Mount Clare, W. Va., a son of the late Herbert 
Winston and Erma Dell (Pearce) Hoover, he had been a resident of Crescent 
for 18 years. He was a member of the Bible Missionary Church and the 
Riverdale United Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon. He 
retired from the LTV Steel Co. after 31 years working in the Tin Mill Dept. 
He also worked for Robert Morris College for 11 years and owned and 
operated his own landscaping business. Herbert was a graduate of Victory 
High School and Mt. State Business College. He was a staff sergeant in the 
U.S. Army where he was a combat engineer during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert 
A. Hoover.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine L. (Davie) Basalyga Hoover, 
Crescent; three children, Kathryn and her husband, Ronald Dayton, 
Independence Township; James Basalyga and his wife Georgia, New Brighton, 
and Robert Basalyga and his wife, Mary Sue, Moon Township, and 10 
grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A Service will be held today at 11 a.m. in the Copeland Moon Township 
Funeral Home, 981 Brodhead Road, with Pastor Robert Dyal of the Bible 
Missionary Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Riverdale 
United Presbyterian Church, 1555 Brodhead Rd., Moon Township, Pa. 15108.

a sheet metal worker for Roth Brothers for more than 30 years and retired 
in 1992. He was a member of Local Union 33 and enjoyed golf and horse 
racing. Nathan was a Master Sergeant at 18 years old in the U.S. Army 
during the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, the former Lola Vega, whom he married Nov. 13, 
1954; two daughters, Scarlett Jargo and Patti Marcum, both of Tucson, 
Ariz.; three sons, Nathan O'Nora, Jacksonville, Fla.; Brian O'Nora, 
Canfield, Ohio, and Sean O'Nora, McDonald, Ohio; a sister, Carol Olzer, Los 
Angeles, Los Angeles Co., Calif.; a brother, Louis O'Nora, South Heights, 
Pa., and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Lytle.
Friends may call at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, Austintown Chapel, from 7 to 8 
p.m. Friday evening.

PERET, ANNA MARGARET (DAVIE)

WIRETON - Ann M. (Davie) Peret, 85, a Wireton resident for most of her 
life, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2004, in the Sewickley Valley Hospital.
Born Feb. 18, 1919, in Wireton, Pa., she was a daughter of the late James 
Henderson and Louwilla (Hart) Davie. Mrs. Peret's family was everything to 
her.  She was a member of the Riverdale United Presbyterian Church and was a 
homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Daniel Peret, in 1982, and 
three brothers, Harry, Jim and Eugene Davie.

Surviving are her three children, Linda Shipe, Reading, Pa.; Nancy Zalusky, 
Aliquippa, and Barry Peret and his wife, Jean, Hopewell Township; three 
sisters, Catherine Hoover, Glenwillard, and Alberta Davis and Bethea Irwin, 
both of Hopewell Township; two brothers, Robert Davie, Crescent, and David 
Davie, Glenwillard; six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 
and 7 to 9 p.m. in the COPELAND MOON TOWNSHIP FUNERAL HOME, 981 Brodhead 
Road. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Riverdale 
United Presbyterian Church, 1555 Brodhead Road, Moon Township, with the 
Rev. Alan Drake officiating.
Burial will be in Sharon Cemetery.

PERET, JOSEPH DANIEL

Joseph D. Peret, 66, of 3008 Heights Road, Hopewell Township, doed Monday, 
Sept. 6, 1982, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Born Oct. 19, 1915, in Pittsburgh, son of the late Adam and Mary Lancos 
Peret, he attended Riverdale Presbyterian Church, Glenwillard; was a 
supervisor for Duquesne Light Co., Phillips Power Station, South Heights, 
and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp., serving in World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Ann M. Davie Peret; a son, Barry J., at home; two 
daughters, Mrs. Stephen (Linda Ann) Shipe, Reading, Pa., and Mrs. Stephen 
(Nancy Jo) Zalusky, Independence Township; six grandchildren; a 
great-grandson; two step-brothers; two step-sisters, and mother-in-law, 
Louwilla Hart Davie, Hopewell Township.

Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the James J 
Darroch Funeral Home, 2640 Mill St., Aliquippa, where a service will be 
conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Kerry A. Meier, pastor of 
Riverdale Presbyterian Church, Glenwillard.
Interment will be in Sharon Community Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Moon 
Township.
Full military rites will be conducted by the Beaver County Special Unit.
