ASPINWALL
METHODIST CHURCH

grave, except for
dimensions.
October 13, 1949
(Kiwanis Magazine--October)
At first glance it
seemed as though we had a record
attendance, but on looking closer,
it was discovered that the 30 members
(approximately) were enhanced
with 10 guests or
speakers as follows:
M. W. McLean - Speaker of the
evening (More later)
District Governor Clem Strobel of
Verona--Clem urged us as a parting bit of
advice to
justify our existence by rendering a service to the community.
John G. Cober of Kerr School,
John B. Hail of Montrose School, A. G. Grindle
and C. J.
Barnhart of Blawnox School, Father Shuster of St. Mary's School,
Sharpsburg,
and Al Lindsay of Aspinwall Schools. These men were guests
of the Boys
and Girls Committee in connection with the Young Citizens
Hoop Clubs
which the committee is sponsoring.
Dr. Paul Montgomery, new minister
of the United Church
Bob Taylor of Aspinwall.
After numerous
announcements and reports listed
elsewhere, we were privileged to hear
an excellent address on "One World,
How Attained", delivered by Mr.
McLean, a leader in the
Pittsburgh Area Council of United
World Federalists. Mr. McLean
outlined briefly how his views
and convictions led him into this
organization whose purpose is to
bring into being a World
Federal Government with powers limited
but adequate to assure peace. He
presented its beliefs,
purposes and policies in a very clear
manner, emphasizing the point the
Kiwanis International at
its 34th Annual Convention held in
June 1949 passed a resolution
embodying the fundamental
points stressed by the United World
Federalists.
