Hi group:
I started researching the General because there were a number of things
that indicated he might tie into my maternal Thompson line. I didn't
work out, but what I originally thought would be a simple thing to check
turned into a 2 1/2 month intensive effort to get all of his ancestors.
There was nothing on line. I compiled records from Allegheny,
Westmoreland and Cumberland Co. before I managed to tie it all together.
I have either copies or transcriptions of all of the sources listed. The
General was from Cumberland Co., but after he died his widow and 2 sons
moved to Pittsburgh, so I decided to post his descendants to the list in
case anyone can use it;

    1.  General William1 Thompson was born June 05, 1736 in County
Meath, Ireland, and died September 03, 1781 in Carlisle, Cumberland Co.,
Pa.  He married Catherine Ross March 29, 1762 in St. James Church,
Lancaster Co., Pa1, daughter of George Ross and Anna Van Gezel.  She was
born January 03, 1738/39 in New Castle, Delaware, and died March 24,
1808 in Chambersburg, Franklin Co., Pa.
