Hunterdon County Query

Surname: LEFFORGE (LAFORGE/LAFARGE)

I am searching for info on my Lefforges (also spelled Laforge, Lafarge)  specifically my great-great-grandparents JOHN L. LEFFORGE (4/16/1764- 4/11/1834) and spouse MARY L. SMITH (11/23/17793-7/7/1865).  The Family Bible (circa 1822) spells Name as LEFFORGE, but found in other papers as LAFORGE or LAFARGE.

It is handed down that they owned property and lived near Alexandria, Hunterdon, NJ around the Revolution era, that Washington's men confiscated his cows and used his rail fences for fires during siege at Trenton.  John emigrated from France as an orphan with a German couple to NJ.  Mary it is thought, was born in NJ.  They later moved to Brookville, IN between 1805 - 1809.   Their children were Ceilia, John Jr., Jacob, Sarah, Mary, Alexander, William, Lewis and Charles.

Any help on my search is greatly appreciated.
