Hunterdon County Query

Surname: Decker, Auten, DeMott, Monfoort, Goyon, Langstraet, Williamson, Jansen, Schermardon, Van Leeuwen, Havens, Stoeffels

A well respected Hunterdon and Somerset Co, NJ researcher, Fred Sisser III, just sent me the following information about the maternal line of Styntie b. circa 1750, wife of Peter Decker, he b. 1749, son of Andries DECKER. They were married by 1782(Docket of Peter Brunner, Readington twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ-RUL; Peter DECKER sues Peter MONFOORT'S estate on behalf of his wife)and they are in a Somerset Co deed living next to the Autens and the Gastons in 1789. It is complicated, bear with me. Hope this helps someone-and me.

Wynea DEMOTT, widow of Michael DEMOTT, Readington, Hunterdon Co, wrote a will in 1792 (NJ wills) in which she names her daughter Stintje, wife of Peter DECKER, and her grandchildren William and Jacob AUTEN. Michael DEMOTT was Wynea's second husband; her first husband, by whom she had Stinety and ________m.AUTEN, was William GOYON (Guyan/Gouyon/Gowin/Gowian), a laborer from Monmouth Co. with whom marriage bonds were announced 1 Oct 1742 (NJ Marr. Bonds, Book G p 14). In Michael DEMOTT's will of 1790 (NJ wills) he mentions a wife (unnamed- but it is Wynea) and his children from his first marriage (to Phebe SCHERMARDEN)(sp);their 4 kids:a different Stinety m. Cornelius WILLIAMSON, Sarah m. John DECKER, Dirck DEMOTT, Elizabeth DEMOTT,and grandaughter Catherine DEMOTT.

Wynea(Langstraet)Goyon DeMott b. about 1721 in Freehold, Monmouth Co, NJ was the daughter of Styntie JANSEN AND Adriaen LANGSTRAET;he died in 1728. Styntie 2nd married William WILLIAMSON of the Raritan in 1741 and 3rd on 9 Aug 1748 m. Pieter MONFOORT from Jamaica,NY. It was his 2nd marriage (his first wife was Margrietje). Peter MONFOORT's will,Readington, 1771, leaves 15 pounds to the children of his second wife's daughter, Weina (Wynea).(NJ wills); this money is what Peter Decker received for his wife, Wynea's daughter Styntje, in the 1782 lawsuit.

Styntie's husband, Adriaen Langstraet (b. Flatlands, Long Island, NY, died circa April, 1728) was the son of Dirck Stoffelsz and Catharine (VAN LEEUWEN) LANGSTRAET, m. circa 1670. Dirck's second wife ( m. circa 1690) was Johanna HAVENS. Dirck LANGSTRAET usually went by his patronymic name of STOFFELS/STOEFFELSE/STOEFFELSEN,etc. Dirck Stoffelsz LANGSTRAET was the son of Stoffel LANGSTRAET born circa 1640, probably Holland; died after 1704, probably Flatlands.
