Hunterdon County Query

Surname: GERARD
I am looking for the parents of DAVID GERARD who was born in 1839. He lived in Hunterdon county with his first wife, Emma and then second wife Harriet Moore. He had many children with his first wife and then one son, Fred (my grandfather) with his second wife, Harriet. His father whose first name is unknown deserted David's family and went off to fight in the Mexican war. Any info on David's parents would be helpful. Thanks
