Surname: HUNTER/YAWGER
I am searching for the parents of John HUNTER or YAWGER (surname of this family was originally JAEGER, the German word for "hunter") from Readington, Hunterdon Co., N.J. He was born in 1800 in Hunterdon Co., and married in Madison Twp., Columbia Co., Pa., about 1827 to Margaret SHEEP, daughter of John and Sarah (BRASS) SHEEP. They removed from there to Davidson Twp., Sullivan Co., Pa., where he died 25 Jan. 1876. They had ten children: Elizabeth, John S., James, Josiah C., Minerva, Margaret Mary, Hannah Jane, Sarah Amanda, Catherine L., and George W. John was probably some close connection to the other HUNTERS/YAWGERS in Madison Twp., Columbia Co./Derry Twp., Northumberland Co. area: there was a William HUNTER (born by 1755) in the 1800 census in Derry Twp., and afterwards a widow Jane HUNTER (b. 1750's), a Philip HUNTER there by 1810 (born 1770's) and wife Mary, a Francis YAWGER, b. ca. 1808, Pa., perhaps son of Philip, a Henry HUNTER/YEAGER, b. ca. 1801, N.J., a Jabez HUNTER in Derry Twp. around 1820.
