COWAN/SHIELDS
COWAN, John (ca 1720 to 1786) m. SHIELDS, Mary. John COWAN believed to own land in Hunterdon Co. on Spruce Run. Don't know dates that he left, but find him purchasing a 311 acre tract in Berkeley Co. VA (now Jefferson Co WV) in Nov. 1774. Andy information or leads greatley appreciated. Eventually want to discover whether John COWAN came to theis part of NJ directly from Ulster as we suspect. Probably member of a Presbyterian Church. Would appreciate information re very old Presby churches with Scots-Irish roots.
