Hunterdon County New Jersey Queries

CHAPMAN
Philip CHAPMAN came from London c l745, married in NJ (WHO!!???). He moved back and forth from Bucks Co PA and Hunterdon Co NJ. John READING's diary has him being paid for carding 25 lbs of wool, May 30, l752, in Hunterdon Co, NJ. Philip and this unknown wife have sons James, (b Nov 2 l747), 2 or 3 daughters , and Benjamin (b April 9, l765.)Philip was a wool merchant, as was his father in London. Both sons were Elders in the Presb. church and one grandson was a Presb. minister.

Philip had 2 brothers and a sister in London who may have also emigrated with him.

Several of us are decended from James and Benjamin, and are desperately seeking the identity of the lady Philip married in NJ, probably Hunterdon Co, c 1745.

Philip's son Benjamin m Catherine AKERS in Campbell Co VA, l786; whose parents William AKERS and Elizabeth MARTYE also came from Hunterdon Co NJ.

We will share what we have with others working on this line; please help us if you know who Philip's wife was!
