HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ MORTGAGES, VOL. 1

From a privately published index to Vol. 1 of Hunterdon mortgages, ordered
microfilm copies of three Holden mortgages. In New Jersey mortgages were
recorded in county offices from about 1765, much earlier than deeds were
recorded. The microfilm copies received were almost unreadable.

Vol. 1, p. 7: Dated July, 166, David Holden and his wife Elizabeth of Trenton
to Samuel Rutherford. Property along Shabakong Brook.

Vol. 1, p. 204: Dated 23 Sept. 1773. Benjamin Holden and his wife Elizabeth
of Trenton to James Paxton, property in Kingwood, 105 acres.

Vol. 1, p. 234: Dated 5 February 1778. David Holden was a witness to a
mortgage for property in Amwell.
