GSNJ Officers & Trustees

Trustees of the Society are elected to three year terms by the general membership at the annual meeting in November of each year.  Officers of the Society are elected annually by the Trustees.  GSNJ is presently headed by the following:

Officer Biographies

C. Arthur Lawton III, President

C. Arthur Lawton III is a resident of Ewing Township, Mercer County, NJ, and has been a GSNJ Trustee since 1999. He is GSNJ’s current President and serves on the GSNJ Editorial, Finance & Audit, Membership, Public Relations, Automation, Long Range Planning, and Volunteer Committees. Lawton has served as GSNJ’s Vice President (2004–2010), the Editor of the Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey (2004–2008), and Editor of the GSNJ Newsletter (1999–2003).

Claire E. Keenen, Vice-President

Claire E. Keenan is a resident of Milmont Park, Delaware County, PA, and has been a GSNJ Trustee since 2008. She currently serves as a GSNJ Vice President and Chairperson of the Automation and Legal Matters Committees. Keenan also serves on the GSNJ Editorial, Special Projects, Program, Finance & Audit, Newsletter, Genealogists Lists, and Legislative Issues Committees.

Joseph R. Klett, Vice-President

Joseph R. Klett is a resident of Hopewell Borough, Mercer County, NJ, and has been a GSNJ Trustee since 1988. He currently serves as a GSNJ Vice President and on the GSNJ Editorial, Gravestone Records, Public Relations, and Long Range Planning Committees. Klett authored the December 2014 Special Issue of the Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey, Understanding New Jersey’s Geography in the Proprietary Period (Volume 89 #4), which was produced in celebration of New Jersey’s 350th Anniversary. He has served as Editor of the Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey (2004–2009), and Editor of the GSNJ Newsletter (1989–1998).

Scott A. Holmes, Treasurer

Scott A. Holmes is a resident of Ringoes, Hunterdon County, NJ, and has served as a GSNJ Trustee since 2004. He currently serves as GSNJ’s Treasurer and Chairperson of the GSNJ Finance and Storage & Inventory Committees. Holmes also serves on the Bible & Family Records, Manuscripts, Special Projects, Program, Automation, Genealogists List, and Long Range Planning Committees.  

Pamelyn P. Bush, Recording Secretary

Pamelyn P. Bush is a resident of Sullivan County, PA, and a GSNJ Trustee since 2005. She currently serves as GSNJ’s Recording Secretary, as Chairperson for the GSNJ Editorial, Gravestone Records, and Special Projects Committees. Bush also serves on the GSNJ Manuscripts, Membership, and Newsletter Committees.

Janet T. Riemer, Corresponding Secretary

Janet T. Riemer is a resident of Pennington, Mercer County, NJ and a GSNJ Trustee since 1975. She currently serves as GSNJ’s Corresponding Secretary and Chairperson of the Manuscript Committee. Riemer also serves on the GSNJ Bible & Family Records, Gravestone Records, Program, Legal Matters, and Storage & Inventory Committees. She has served as GSNJ President (1996–2002) and as the Co-Editor for the Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey (1989–2003).


Trustees Biographies

Tom Ankner

Tom Ankner is a resident of Newark, NJ and has been a GSNJ Trustee since 2014. He serves as the Chairperson of the GSNJ Program Committee and also serves on the Automation, Legislative Issues, Nominating, and Volunteer Committees.

Alexander D. Everitt, Jr.

Alexander D. Everitt, Jr. is a resident of Lafayette Township, Sussex County, NJ and has been a GSNJ Trustee since 1975. He serves on the GSNJ Program Committee.

Melissa A. Johnson, CG

Melissa A. Johnson is a resident of Hazlet, Monmouth County, NJ, and has served as a GSNJ Trustee since 2010. She currently serves as Editor of the GSNJ Newsletter, and on the GSNJ Editorial and Program committees.

Joan M. Lowry

Joan M. Lowry is a resident of Colonia, Middlesex County, NJ and a GSNJ Trustee since 1994. She currently serves GSNJ as Chairperson of several GSNJ committees, including the Membership and Legislative Issues Committees. Lowry also serves on the Newsletter and Legal Matters Committees. She served as GSNJ President (2002–2010).

Albert C. King

Albert C. King is a resident of Somerset, Franklin Township, Somerset County, NJ, and has served as a GSNJ Trustee since 1989. He serves on the GSNJ Special Projects, Automation, and Legal Matters Committees.

Michelle D. Novak

Michelle D. Novak is a resident of Manhattan, New York, NY, and has served as GSNJ Trustee since 2015. She serves on the GSNJ Public Relations, Newsletter, and Genealogist Lists Committees.

Elizabeth (Jean) Pellicane

Elizabeth (Jean) Pellicane is a resident of Glen Gardner, Hunterdon County, NJ, and has served as a GSNJ Trustee since 2013. She serves as Chairperson of the GSNJ Volunteer Committee. Pellicane also serves on the GSNJ Gravestone Records, Program, Membership, Public Relations, Automation, and Nominating Committees.

Carol M. Sheaffer, MD

Carol M. Sheaffer, MD, is a resident of Lawrenceville, Mercer County, NJ and has served as a GSNJ Trustee since 2009. She serves as Chairperson of the GSNJ Long-Range Planning and Nominating Committee. Sheaffer also serves on the GSNJ Gravestone Records, Special Projects, and Newsletter Committees.

Fred Sisser III

Fred Sisser III is a resident of Brick Township, Ocean County, NJ and has served as a GSNJ Trustee since 1970. He serves as the Chairperson of the GSNJ Bible & Family Records Committee. Sisser also serves on the GSNJ Editorial, Manuscripts, and Newsletter Committees. He served as a GSNJ Vice President (1973–1979).


Trustees Emeriti

Roxanne K. Carkhuff

Roxanne K. Carkhuff is a resident of Ringoes, Hunterdon County, NJ.  She became a Trustee in 1973 and is now a GSNJ Trustee Emeritus.  She formerly served as Co-Editor of the Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey (1989–2003) and Co-Editor of the GSNJ Newsletter (1976–1988).

Edward J. Raser

Edward J. Raser is a resident of Monroe Township, Middlesex Township, NJ.  He became a Trustee in 1953 and is now a GSNJ Trustee Emeritus.  He formerly served as GSNJ President (1973–1976), GSNJ Vice President (1969–1970), and was Chairman of the Immigrant Register.

Thomas B. Wilson

Thomas B. Wilson is a resident of Lambertville, Hunterdon County, NJ. He became a Trustee in 1971 and is now a GSNJ Trustee Emeritus.
