We are planning for Saturday August 4, 2012 in the Long Hill Cemetery, Stirling, Long Hill Township in Morris County. The cemetery is located at the rear of St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery, with three small sections that are mostly tree-shaded. The gravestones are mostly late 19th century and early 20th century, some difficult to read. The cemetery plots were available to any residents of the township, previously called "Passaic Township" which is located in the southern portion of Morris County adjacent to Somerset County and Union County. The rain date (or extreme heat day) will be the following Saturday, August 11. Clip-boards, paper, writing utensils, cold water and instructions for copying inscriptions will be supplied at the site. No special knowledge is required except the willingness to help record old gravestones for posterity. If you are interested in joining us, please notify Pam so we know how many helpers to plan. We can provide a list of nearby restaurants for lunch, and a map for getting to the cemetery. The time to meet is 9-9:30 AM. and we hope to finish recording all gravestones by the afternoon.
