The County of Camden is rich in history.

Although the City of Camden traces it's origins to 1764, with the purchase of the land the city is situated on by Jacob Cooper (great-grandson of one of the earliest settlers of the area, William Cooper), the County of Camden was officially created in 1844, when it separated from Gloucester County.

• The County of Camden contains many of the nation's "firsts"; such as

  The first drive-in theater (was located on Admiral Wilson Blvd).

  The first African-American municipality incorporated norht of the Mason-Dixon Line; see Lawnside NJ.

Barclay Farmstead

Campbell Soup Company had it's origins in Camden County. Their World Headquarters is still located in the City of Camden. Along with RCA, Campbell's has defined New Jersey, Camden County, and Camden City. Read More...
