This section of the Web site is provided to hold items which will help the
researcher with items that provide a general background, or might point the
researcher to look in a particular direction.
For instance, Sandra Tracy (<[email protected]>)
has transcribed information from the Index
to Prerogative Wills of Ireland 1536-1810 in which are listed the Wills
of a number of Nicholl (and spelling variants) family members.
Sandra has abstracted all occurrences of the names NICHOLL, NICHOLLS, NICHOLS,
NICKLE etc from the Griffiths Valuation
Index for Ireland.
Sandra has provided some "Nicholl" (and Leeth) names from Pigot's
Directory of Ireland 1824, for Connaught, Munster and Ulster.
Sandra has also provided some names from the 1851
UK Census where they show Irish ancestry. The census places are
Devon, Norfolk and Warwick in England only on 31 March 1851.
A useful addition to the site is a List of Occupations
from Victorian times, with their modern day interpretations.
Sandra has researched the Nicholl and variant names of Irish
landowners in 1876, and these have been tabulated on a page on this website.
