The Northwood Historical Society (NHS) was founded in 1968 by community-minded citizens wishing to retain the history, objects and stories of our town. A total of 32 residents were listed as charter members.

With the passing years, the original goal has served as the foundation for our efforts. A large and growing collection of Northwood-related items is now maintained by NHS. We are grateful to the many people, whether from Northwood, with a distant tie, or with an interest in preserving history, who have donated items so generously to the collection.

Since 1994, the James Bryant Memorial Library on School Street (Rt. 107) in Northwood Narrows has served as our home and museum. This arrangement is made possible through an agreement with the Northwood Library Trustees. Every year, dedicated NHS members put together informative and creative exhibits for the public. The museum is open the first and third Saturdays of July and August from 1 to 3 p.m.

In addition, NHS provides free, public programs in May, July, September and November. Meeting notices are mailed to NHS members, posted in local public spots (post office, library, bank, etc.) and announced in the local media. Each year in February NHS sponsors Candidates Night for Northwood candidates of public offices.
