1889 Atlas of York County, Nebraska
From Official Records and Surveys
Under the Direction of B. N. Griffing, C.E.
Published in 1889 by Griffing, Dixon & Co. - Philadelphia, PA for J. H. Ruhl

Example from township mapThe 1889 atlas has proven to be a valuable resource in locating ancestors who lived in York County around 1890.

The index to the township maps lists all the names that appeared on in the rural areas of the county, typical of an atlas. Copies of these maps are available. The maps show where the homes were located (the black squares), the trees surrounding the home (the circles), and sometimes notations that the house was made of sod. This very unusual example shows five sod homes within one square mile.

The atlas also includes a list of patrons which lists when the person came to York County, where they were born, their occupation, and their post office address.
