Canada

From 1791 until 1841 the two provinces of Ontario and Quebec were known as Upper Canada (Ontario) and Lower Canada (Quebec).  After 1841 Upper Canada became Canada West and Lower Canada became Canada East.  In 1867 Canada West became known as Ontario and Canada East was the province of Quebec.  It's helpful to know this since references to Lower Canada, for example, gives you a rough idea of the time frame involved.
