With all the information that has been published in its many forms, it would be easy to infringe upon someone else's copyright. To avoid this, the USGenWeb has set certain guidelines that we must follow. Read the Offici al USGENWEB Lookup Policy.

Keep these points in mind when requesting a lookup:
  1. Do not request that a list of all xxx surnames be sent
  2. Lookups are limited to FACTS
  3. Lookups are limited to one name (two names if a married couple)

Information which qualifies as being in the public domain:

  1. information published prior to 1921
  2. public records
  3. information published by a government agency
