ANCHOR MILL CEMETERY

The Anchor Mill Cemetery is located in the South 1/2 of Section. 29. Twp. 14, Range 13. There is only one known burial, that of an infant son of Claus Hauschild, who lived at and operated the old Anchor Mill. The mill, built in 1857 by Amos Gates and his uncle Jedediah Mills, was the first mill authorized by the Nebraska Territorial Legislature.

The following article appeared in the Papillion Times 20 Apr 1905:
"GILMORE NEWS: A son was born to Mrs. and Mrs. Claus Houschild [Hauschild] last Thursday [13 Apr 1905]. The little one lived but a few hours. Burial was at the home.

The house has been razed, but the floor and foundation remain. The remains of the house and the burial place are located on private property and the grave is unmarked.
