Beulah, a postoffice in Polk County
Osceola, the county seat of Polk county, is situated on the Omaha
and Republican Valley branch of the U.P.Ry., 19 miles from Omaha
and 67 miles from Lincoln, and is a thriving city of 1,300
population. The buildings of the town are handsome and substantial
in appearance, and during the past year there have been erected a
number of fine brick blocks, prominent among which are the new
hotel and the Odd Fellows hall. There are two banks in the town.
The Osceola Bank has a paid up capital of $75,000, while the Bank
of Polk County has a capital of $40,000. The newspapers are
represented by the Record and Democrat, the latter being a very
enterprising journal, having a good circulation. The Polk County
Creamery is the pride of the town. It is one of the very few
creameries in the state that are paying investments. They have in
their employ the year round about thirty men. Before another year
the town will have a good system of water works in operation. The
land surrounding Osceola is of a rich dark color, and the farmers
generally are quite prosperous. Stock raising is one of the main
occupations. The Methodist, German Methodist and Presbyterian
are the churches of the city.
