Robert E. GROSSNICKLAUS, age 80, of York, NE, formerly of Osceola, NE, passed 
away Oct 5, 2007. Funeral services were Oct 8, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the 
United Methodist Church in Osceola.  Interment was in the Osceola Cemetery 
with Military Rites, William Wolfe Post #91. Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and 
Stromsburg was in charge of arrangements. Preceded in death by his parents 
and wife Patricia Grossnicklaus who passed away Sept 25, 2004.

Harriet L. BENNETT, age 94 of Ft. Collins Colorado , died Oct 5, 2007.  
A memorial service was Oct 12 at Faith Evangelical Free Church, Ft. Collins.  
Interment will be private at Grandview Cemetery. Harriet Louise Walline was 
born June 22, 1913 in Stromsburg, NE to David and Josie Walline. Married Lowell 
Merle Bennett on June 14, 1935 in Stromsburg. In addition to her husband, Lowell, 
Harriet was preceded in death by her son, Jim Bennett.  

JoAnn Marie EBEL, 73, of Columbus died Oct 6, 2007 at her home in Columbus. 
Mass of Christian Burial was Oct 9 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus.  
Interment was in Ss. Peter & Mary/Presentation Cemetery in rural Bellwood.  

Roseletta A. GARHAN, age 93 of Rising City, passed away Oct 6, 2007 in David City. 
Funeral services were held Oct 9th at the United Methodist Church in Rising City. 
Chermok Funeral Home in David City was in charge of arrangements. 

Agnes Marie SHONKA, age 94 of Surprise, passed away Oct 4, 2007 in David City. 
Born July 3, 1913 in Odell, NE to Frank and Anna (Masek) Hajek. Funeral services 
were held Oct 4th at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ulysses. Burial was 
in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ulysses. Chermok Funeral Home of David City was in 
charge of arrangements. 

Barbara EKLUND, 68, former Salinas, CA resident, died Oct 16, 2007 at her 
home in San Francisco following a long battle with cancer.  Born on Jan 13, 1939, 
in North Platte, NE to Dr. Walter J. and Alice Fitzpatrick. Married Gregg Eklund of 
Osceola, Nebraska in 1960, and they had four children, Robert, Catherine, Bridget, 
and Mary Sue who died in infancy. Preceded in death by her parents and her infant 
daughter, Mary Sue.  Mass of Christian Burial was held on Oct 23, 2007 at the 
Sacred Heart Church, Salinas, CA. A memorial service will be held Oct 26, 2007 a
at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church in Osceola. Inurnment will be in the Osceola Cemetery.  

Roy HILDERBRAND Sr., 71, of Polk, died Oct 19, 2007.  Funeral services were held 
Oct 23, 2007 at the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City.  Interment was in 
the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery.  Solt Funeral Home in Polk was in charge of 
arrangements. Preceded in death by his parents Lula and Hermann Hilderbrand and 
two sisters  Jean Campbell and Elsie Wittig. 

Max D. JONES, 82, of Polk, died Oct 20, 2007.  Funeral services were held Oct 23, 2007
at Trinity Lutheran Church in Polk. Burial was in the Arborville Cemetery near Polk.  
Military rites were conducted by the Polk American Legion Post No. 160. Solt Funeral 
Home in Polk was in charge of arrangements. Preceded in death by his parents, infant 
sister Millicent; and two brothers-in-law Robert Baack and Lowell Bills.

Vera B. SHAY age 96 of York, NE died Oct 18, 2007. Born Dec 7, 1910 near Polk, NE 
to Sylvester J. and Grace Belle (Knerr) Harless. Preceded in death by her parents, three 
brothers, Maynard as an infant, Stanley and Leland and a son-in-law Royce Bellows.
Funeral services were held Oct 22, 2007 at the New Heights Assembly of God Church 
in York. Burial will be in the Polk Cemetery, Polk, NE.

Ronald Keith WATTS was born Dec 31, 1938 in Osceola, NE. He died in his home in 
Parker, AZ on Sept 25, 2007. Ronald was the youngest of five children born to 
Florence (Mentint) and Walter Watts. Services were held in Parker, AZ on Oct 2, 2007.
