Iola Dorothea (Weishahn) McGOWEN HERMSEN, 86, Seward, died 
May 4, 2007, in Lincoln. Born Mar 4, 1921, to Herman and Martha Anna 
Lena (Bartels) Weishahn in Tobias. On August 27, 1948, she married 
John T. McGowen. John died in 1958. She married Jack C. Hermsen on 
Sept. 7, 1974. Also preceded in death by brothers, Warren and Eldo 
Weishahn; and stepson, Ron Hermsen. Funeral services were May 8, 2007 
at St. John Lutheran Church, Seward. Interment was at Seward Cemetery. 

Portia Marsh REEVES, 101, Central City, died April 29, 2007.
Born Sept. 26, 1905, to Fred A. and Virginia Ivy (Crites) Marsh in Central City. 
On Dec. 24, 1929, she married Ted Reeves at her parents' home.
Preceded in death by her husband, Ted Reeves, in 1988; sisters, Erma 
Mesner and Elizabeth Jensen; infant sister, Dorothy Marsh; brothers, Earl, 
Marion and Warren Marsh; grandsons, Paul Jon Fraser, Daniel John Reeves 
and Randy Francis; and great-grandson, Elliot Michael Reeves.
Funeral services were May 2, 2007 at First Baptist Church, Chapman.
Interment was at Central City Cemetery. 

Beatrice "Bea" (Moravec) RIST, 82, Papillion, died May 3, 2007, in Papillion
Born Dec. 31, 1924, to John and Pauline (Zavodny) Moravec in Bee.
Preceded in death by her husband, Charles Rist; sister, Rosie Zimmer; 
brother, Deuce Moravec; and grandson, Jason Wright. Funeral services were 
April 7, 2007 at Kahler-Dolce Mortuary, Papillion. Interment was at Cedar Dale 
Cemetery, Papillion.

Lucille M. SOUKUP, 98, Brainard, formerly Laurel, Md., died May 3, 2007, in Lincoln.
Born May 10, 1908, to Anton and Veronica (Sypal) Bruner. In 1929 she married 
Edward J. Soukup in Seward. Preceded in death by her husband, Edward Soukup, 
in 1956; brother, George Bruner; and grandson, Allen Kudlacek. Funeral services 
were May 7, 2007 at Holy Trinity Church, Brainard. Interment was at Holy Trinity 
Cemetery, Brainard.

Rachel L. WALSH, 98, Seward, died May 7, 2007.
Born Feb. 5, 1909, to Thomas D. and Clara Belle (Dunlap) Parks. She was an 
elementary school teacher for 20 years in Modesto, Calif., and 20 years in Nebraska.
Preceded in death by her brothers, Keith and Charles Parks. Funeral services 
May 9, 2007 at Wood-Zabka Funeral Home, Seward. Interment will be at Greenwood 
Cemetery, Seward.

Amanda Anna GOCKE, 92, Exeter, formerly Waco, died May 10, 2007, in Exeter.
Born Nov. 19, 1914, to Herman and Helena (Pozehl) Erks near Utica. On Mar 9, 1932
she married Lawrence Gocke in Gresham. Preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence 
Gocke; daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Arlan Klepper; brothers, Edward, Louis 
and Irvin Erks; and sisters, Esther Erks and Alma Hans. Funeral services were May 14, 2007
at St. John Lutheran Church, Waco. Interment was at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Waco. 

Leona Irene KLAHN, 80, Lincoln, died May 1, 2007.
Born April 22, 1927, to Emil and Martha Thonen in Seward.
Was a rural schoolteacher in a one-room schoolhouse in Seward County.
Preceded in death by her four brothers; five sisters; and grandchild, Freddie Klahn.
Funeral services were May 4, 2007 at Calvary Lutheran Church, Lincoln. Interment 
was at Yankee Hill Cemetery, Lincoln.

Loren Wayne KROUS, 63, Seward, died May 9, 2007, in Lincoln.
Born June 19, 1943, to Charles and Lavanna (Spencer) Krous. 
On May 25, 1967, he married Jean Norine in York. Preceded in death 
by his wife, Jean Krous; and parents, Charles and Lavanna Krous.
Funeral services and interment were May 14, 2007 at Seward Cemetery. 

Lilas M. SANLEY, 99, David City, died May 11, 2007, in David City.
Born July 16, 1907, to John D. and Edith (Pollman) Nichols in David City. 
On Dec. 24, 1924, she married David Sanley. Preceded in death by her 
husband, David Sanley, in 1983; daughter, Darlene Rumler; grandchild, 
Patrick Sanley; brothers, Glen, Dale and Floyd Nichols; and daughter-in-law, Elaine Sanley.
Funeral services were May 15, 2007 at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rising City. 
Interment was at David City Cemetery.
 
Ginni Lisa SCHLUCKEBIER, 33, Lincoln, died May 11, 2007, in Lincoln.
Born Feb. 11, 1974, to Lyle and Elaine (Luebbe) Mueller in Seward. 
On July 22, 1995, she married Jason Schluckebier in Seward.
She worked for 10 years at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lincoln.
Funeral services were May 15 at Messiah Lutheran Church, Lincoln. 
Interment was at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery.

Bernard Melvin CHURCHILL, 72, Circle City, Ariz., formerly Lincoln, died 
May 15, 2007, after a three-year battle with cancer of the colon and liver.
Born June 26, 1934, to Melvin and Bertha (Schrock) Churchill in Geneva. 
On May 1, 1976, he married Diana L. Kouba in Lincoln.Preceded in death 
by his brother, Roy Churchill. Funeral services were at Wickenburg Lutheran 
Church, Wickenburg, Ariz. Interment was at Morristown, Ariz. 

Woodrow Anton DVORAK, 88, David City, died May 16, 2007.
Born May 27, 1918, to Frank A. and Josephine (Slama) Dvorak in rural 
Brainard. Served with the U.S. Army in the 35th Division, infantry and 
military police. On June 16, 1942, he married Evelyn M. Hasik in Los Angeles. 
Preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Dvorak, in 1999; brothers, Frank, Ray, 
Joseph and Oscar Dvorak; and sisters, Libby Dvorak and Hilda Dvorak Rezek.
Funeral services were May 19 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Brainard.
Interment was at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Brainard. 

Lucille HAUDER, 93, Omaha, formerly Seward, died May 14, 2007, in Omaha.
Born July 18, 1913, to Wilbur Oliver and Lillie Addie (Shirley) Wright in Utica. 
On Feb. 9, 1943, she married Wilbur LaVernis Hauder in Seward.
Preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Hauder, in 1982; brothers, Clifford 
Eugene and Thomas Wilbur Wright. Funeral services were May 22 at Wood-Zabka 
Funeral Home Chapel, Seward. 

Jacquelyn Joyce JACOBSEN, 56, Garland, died May 16, 2007, in Seward.
Born July 8, 1950, to Jack and Betty (Luther) Phillips in Omaha. 
On April 23, 1977, she married Gary Jacobsen in Lexington.
Preceded in death by her father, Jack Phillips. Funeral services were 
May 19 at Northwest Community Church, Malcolm. Interment was at 
Elk Slough Cemetery, Garland.

Dorothy Margaret "Peg" JONES, 61, Omaha, died May 10, 2007, after 
an 18-year battle with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Born July 20, 1945, to 
Bob and Dorothy (Rine) Bennett in Clarenda, Iowa. Preceded in death 
by her father, Bob Bennett. Funeral services were May 15 at Heafey 
and Heafey Mortuary, Omaha. 

Mervin Albert KARR, 85, East Helena, Mont., died May 12, 2007.
Born Aug. 24, 1922, to Albert and Mae Karr in Seward. On Dec. 13, 1941, 
he married Virginia Morgan. He joined the army & drove an ambulance in 
France and Belgium during World War II. Preceded in death by his wife, 
Virginia Karr. Funeral serivces were May 18 at Maranatha Baptist Church, 
East Helena, Mont. Interment with full military honors by the Lewis and 
Clark Veterans Council was at the Montana State Veteran's 
Cemetery, Fort Harrison, Mont. 

Helen "Ilene" McMILLIN, 74, died May 15, 2007, in Kearney.
Born Feb. 19, 1933, to Bernard and Myrtle (Thompson) Harris in Neligh. 
On Mar 30, 1952, she married Loren Lee McMillin in Utica. Preceded in death 
by her husband, Loren Lee McMillin, in 1973; and two sisters. Funeral services 
and interment were May 19 at the Utica Cemetery.
