MARY (ALLEN) CARLSON

Mary CARLSON Entered Into Eternal Rest Thursday, May 10, 1984. Services were conducted from the United Methodist Church, Axtell, at 2 PM Monday afternoon for Mary E. Carlson. She died May 10 at the Seneca hospital. The Rev. Paul Seyffer officiated. Two granddaughters, Jeanne Jacobson and Judy Kroeger, sang a duet, accompanied by Lisa Broxterman, organist. Bural was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Axtell. Casket bearers were Benton Luse, Hollis Winchell, Loyal Shirley, John Porting, Kenneth Bergmann and Robert Porting. Landreth Thornburg was in charge. Mary Elizabeth Carlson, 75, daughter of William and Mary Isabelle Tylee Allen, was born on Dec. 27, 1908, at Norton. The family moved to Vermillion when she was eight weeks old. She was baptized at age 9 at the Christian Church, Vermillion. The family moved to Strasburg, Colo., in February 1920. She married Oscar Carlson of Vliets March 1, 1926, in Denver. They were parents of five children. The Carlsons returned to Kansas and made their home on a farm southwest of Axtell. In 1932 they moved to his home place at Vliets and lived there until Ma rch 1940 when they returned to their farm west of Axtell. In 1948 they purchased a farm south of Axtell and moved there in March 1951. After his death in 1966, she remained on the farm until November 1979 when she moved in Axtell. She worked at the Axtell school lunch room, Luse Department store and in 1968 she began working for 10 years at Nemaha Valley Hospital, Seneca, as a nurses' aide. She was a member of the United Methodist Church at Axtell. She was preceeded in death by her husband on Aug. 24, 1966; her parents, two brothers; one sister; a grandson, Robert Carlson; and a granddaughter, Brenda Carlson. Survivors include four sons, Eugene Carlson, Ivan Carlson and Jim Carlson, all at Axtell, Elmer Carlson of Yuma, Ariz.,; one daughter, June Alexander, Topeka; two brothers, Wray Allen of Larkspur, Colo., and Albert Allen of Strasburg, Colo.; one sister, Viola Young of Bennett, Colo.; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

LEO CARNINE

Pioneer Rancher Leo Carnine Dies Dec 1956 Leo Daniel Carnine, 71, a rancher 18 miles south of Alliance for the past 50 years, died early this afternoon at St. Joseph's Hospital. He had become ill at Omaha in October and was transferred to the hospital here about 10 days ago. Mr. Carnine is survived by his wife, Maebell, and a son, Forrest, both of the home ranch and a daughter, Mrs. Maxine Romig of Oshkosh, Neb. The body is at the Landa Funeral Home but arrangements for services have not been completed.

MAE BELLE CARNINE

Saturday Rite Here for Mae Belle Carnine Mrs. Mae Belle Carnine, 63, died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon at her ranch home 18 miles southwest of Alliance. She had been in falling health for the past two years. Death was a suicide according to County Attorney Robert J. Dulger of Morrill County. Mrs. Carnine was born May 20, 1890, in Plymouth County Ia., but had live practically all of her life in this vicinity. She married the late Leo D. Carnine on March 22, 1920 in Gering. He died December 3, 1956. Member of Cow Belles. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Nebraska Cow Belles. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Marvin Maxine Romig of Oshkosh; one son Forest L. of the home; three brothers, Jesse Lawrence and Louie Lawrence both of Bridgeport, and Pearl L Lawrence of Bayard and a sister Mrs. Stella Thomson of Englewood, Colo.

Funeral Saturday Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Presbyterian Church in Alliance with the Rev. John A. Mayar officiating. Burial will be in the Angora Cemetery.
Members of the family say those desiring may designate their memorial to the Angora Cemetery Association in care of Mrs. Dolly McMann,123 Box Butte, Alliance. The Landa Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

WANDA CARSON

Friday, 1 May 1936 Rites at Angora Monday for Girl (Special to Times-Herald) Wanda Carson, small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merle Carson, was buried at Angora Monday afternoon, following funeral services held at the community club house with Rev. Mr. Downing of Bridgeport officiating. The child passed away at Bridgeport last Saturday, succumbing to double pneumonia after a short illness. Wanda was born at Angora June 7, 1933. School was dismissed at Angora and district No. 88 of Morrill county Monday in respect to the family. Mrs. Hattie Carson and daughter, Ruth, of Omaha were called to Angora by Wanda's death. The child was a granddaughter of Mrs. Carson. Mrs. Carson and her daughter remained at Angora with relative for a few days following the funeral.

H. Curt CROUCH, 79 yrs. - b. 6 Dec 1923, Buffalo, OK. Parents: John G. Crouch & Georgia Mae Gilbert. WW II: US Army Air Corps. Married Freda Bastron 14 Jun 1945, Bayard, NE. Educuated as professional photographer. Lived/worked in Minatare & Hastings, NE; then owned Curtis Photography in Grand Junction, CO. Mr. Crouch d. Tues., 1 Apr 2003, Sun City, AZ. Memorial service: All Saints of the Desert Episcopal Church in Sun City. Cremains to Bayard Cemetery, NE. Survived by wife, a daughter, a son & six grandchildren.

LANDON 'LANNY' EARL COVALT

Enid,OK � The funeral for Landon �Lanny� Earl Covalt, 68, of Lamont, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at First Christian Church, Lamont. The Rev. Jeff McReynolds will officiate. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Broadwater, Neb. Local arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek. Nebraska services will be under the direction of Joliffe Funeral Home, Bridgeport, Neb. He was born Oct. 14, 1940, in Alliance, Neb., to Lewis J. and Katherine Waggoner Covalt and died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, at Servant Living Center, Medford, where he had lived for the past five years. He attended a one-room school in rural Morrill County, Neb., through the eighth grade, then graduated in 1958 from Curtis High School at the Agriculture Boarding School affiliated with the University of Nebraska in Curtis, Neb. Following graduation he returned to the family ranch in Morrill County where he worked with his father and brother until 1995 when he retired due to ill health and moved to Oklahoma with his wife. He was a member of First Christian Church of Lamont. He raised cattle, horses and buffalo and held buffalo hunts on his ranch. Surviving are his wife, Edna Irene, of Lamont; four children, Ryan Covalt of Sheridan, Wyo., Cheri Fritzler of Alliance, Lonnie Covalt of Scottsbluff, Neb., and James Covalt of Arthur, Neb.; one stepdaughter, Linda Miller of Garden City, Kan.; one brother, John Covalt; one sister, Elaine Reece of Benson, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to First Christian Church, Lamont.

LOUISE WILDS COVALT

Louise Wilds COVALT, 73, Kearney and a former Sidney resident, died Wednesday, Sept. 4 at her home in Kearney. Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. in the Light Memorial Presbyterian Church in Sidney with Rev. Dahlgren officiating. Burial will follow in the Redington Cemetery in Redington, Neb. Louise Wilds Covalt was born Dec. 4, 1928 on the family ranch near Redington, the 12th child of Richard L. and Elsie May (Kirk) Wilds. She received her early education from the Redington rural school system. Louise was an active student at Bridgeport High School, singing in the school choir and making the honor roll. She also sang in the choir of the First Baptist Church, all while being employed full-time at the Broadway Cafe in Bridgeport. She graduated with the class of 1946 and began working for the Nebraska Department of Irrigation. In July 1948 she married Arthur E. Covalt in Stoneham, Colo. The couple resided in the Broadwater area for several years. Both worked at the Sioux Army Depot near Sidney, moving there in 1957. In 1962 Arthur accepted a position with the Department of the Interior and the family moved to the Crescent Lake National Wildlife Refuge, 30 miles north of Oshkosh. In 1964 Louise accepted a position at Midwec in Oshkosh and worked there for several years. In 1995 she retired from Prestolite Wire, now Krone Digital, in Sidney after 26 years of service. Louise enjoyed playing piano, crocheting, fishing and was very proud of her Master Anglers Certificate which she received in 1996. She was also a member of the Light Memorial Presbyterian Church in Sidney and served on the Board of Sessions. Survivors include her two sons; five of her siblings; two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Louise was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, five brothers and an infant son, Johnny Lee.
