ASA BAKER

OBITUARY2 May 1924 Mr. Baker was born in Beaver City, O., July 31, 1867. He came to Sidney, Neb., in 1886 and is well known by all old settlers of the country. After receiving a broken hip from a horse's kick a year ago, he has been in poor health. Death occurred at St. Joseph's hospital at midnight, April 25. 1924. Services were held at 3 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Clark. Music was given by Mrs. Drake, Mrs. Donovan and Miss Ruth Nation. The body was taken to Angora for burial. A short service was held at Angora in charge of the Rev. Mr. Berry.

JENNIE K. BAKER

Mrs. Jennie K. BAKER Mrs. Jennie K. Kynett Baker, who lived at 2421 Avenue B, Scottsbluff, died Thursday at the age of 83 after a illness of one month. Funeral services in charge of the Dennis Funeral Home have tentatively been set for Monday. Burial will be at Angora. Mrs. Baker, whose maiden name was Jennie Kynett, was born June 17, 1868 at Council Bluffs, Ia., the daughter of Margaret Ann Johns and Xenophen Kynett. She was married to William Ramsey White Sept. 4, 1895, at Bushnell, Ill. He died May 5, 1906 and in 1908 she came to western Nebraska and taught school in Morrill county until her marriage, Dec. 23, 1912, to Asa Baker at Lincoln. He preceded her in death , April 24, 1924. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Cecil Bullock of Scottsbluff; a son Louis K. White of Angora, and a grandson Cecil M. Bullock of Scottsbluff.

RICHARD A. BANTA

BANTA, Richard A. Born Bridgeport, Nebraska 1925. Served four years in U.S. Army WWII. Praticing architect in So. California since 1954. Passed away peacefully February 9, 2007 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Beloved husband of C. for 58 years. Devoted father of P. L. and G. P.. Caring grandfather of K. H., M. H., N. L., and J. L., a sister of B. U. Richard and C. enjoyed traveling to forty countries over the years and took many trips across the U.S. and Canada in a motor home/van designed and built by Richard. His children can recall fun filled years with their father who was a great dad and role model. He was a wonderful husband and will be greatly missed. A memorial will be held at a later date in Los Osos, CA. The family requests that any gift in Richard's memory be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc., of Los Angeles.

Emelia Grace Becker ANGORA - Emelia Grace Becker, 74, of Angora died Sunday at a Scottsbluff hospital. She was born Aug. 6, 1893 in Toledo, Ohio. On Nov. 27, 1914, she married Edward C. Becker in Detroit, Mich., and has lived in Angora community since that time. She is survived by her husband, five daughters; Mrs. Grace Warry and Mrs. Dorothy Staton, both of Minatare, Mrs. Margaret Murkle of Lincoln, Mrs. Lillian Towsend of Boulder, Wyo. And Mrs. Lois Chamber of Shreveport, La.; one brother Perry Jackson of Detroit; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Three sons and 13 brothers and sisters preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Scottsbluff. The Rev. W. H. Johnson will officiate and burial will be in Angora Cemetery. The Holecheck Funeral Home of Bridgeport is in charge of arrangements.

Emelia Becker, 74, Of Angora Is Dead ANGORA (T-HNS) - Funeral services were held this afternoon at the Scottsbluff Seventh-Day Adventist Church for Emelia Grace Becker, 74, of Angora. She died Sunday in a Scottsbluff hospital. The Rev. W. H. Johnson officiated at the service and burial was in the Angora Cemetery. The Holechek Funeral Home of Bridgeport was in charge of arrangements.

Angora Child Dies Donald Charles Becker, three-day old son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward C. Becker of the Angora neighborhood, died January 16. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, with interment in the Angora cemetery in charge of the Canaday Mortuary of Bridgeport.

FARMER FOUND DEAD ON PLACE NEAR ANGORA Dec. 3, 1948 ANGORA, Nebr. (AP) - Funeral services were held Wednesday for Harry C. Becker, 65, found dead Monday in his home four miles northwest of Angora. The body was discovered on the floor of the house where Becker lived alone, by Mail Carrier Roy Morgan of Bayard after Morgan noticed that the mail has not been picked up. County Attorney Robert Bulger said death apparently was due to natural causes. Beck er had been dead at least two weeks, he said. Becker was a native in Rising City, Nebr. He also lived in Idaho, coming to Morrill county 20 years ago. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Clara Nelson of Osceola.

MAE C. BENNETT

Mae C. BENNETT, 78 BRIDGEPORT (T-HNS) - Mae C. Bennett, 78, of Bridgeport ided Saturday in the Ogallala Hospital. She was born April 18, 1904 in Joplin, Mo., and grew up in the Dalton-Gurley area. She moved with her parents to Lewellen where they owned and operated the hotel and restaurant. She married the late Ora L. Bennett on Sept. 8, 1921 in Oshkosh. He died in 1978. She and her late husband moved to Angora in 1924 and he operated the Angora garage for 54 years. She moved to Bridgeport in 1978. Survivors include two sons, Richard of Aurora, Colo., Donald of Scottsbluff, a daughter, Rudy Pappas, Anchorage, Alaska; a brother Raymond Gillestie of Hemet, Calif.; and by eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Retired Postmasters Association and the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Bridgeport. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday at the Christensen Funeral Home in Bridgeport. The Rev. William Barnes will officiate and burial will be in the Angora Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Bridgeport.

ORA L. BENNETT, 83 BRIDGEPORT (T-HNS) - Ora L. Bennett, 82, died Saturday at a Bridgeport Nursing Home. He was born March 19, 1895 in New York, Ia., and homesteaded near Rackett in 1904. He was a mechanic in Lewellen for three years before moving to Angora where he operated an auto repair business for many years. He married the former Mae C. Gillespie on Sept. 8, 1921 in Oshkosh and she survives. In addition to his widow he is survived by two sons, Donald of Scottsbluff and Richard of Aurora, Colo.; a daughter, Mrs. George (Ruby) Pappas of Anchorage, Alaska, and by eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at the Christensen Funeral Home in Bridgeport with the Rev. Orin M. Hunkins officiating. Burial will be in the Angora Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Bridgeport Fire Department.

Services Pending For Dale D. BARRY ANGORA (T-HNS) - Funeral service for Dale D. Berry, 34, are pending at the Christensen Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Mr. Berry died Sunday in a 2-car accident east of Angora. He was born Jan. 4, 1941 at Angora and spent all of his life in the area. His wife, the former Janice Frick of Bridgeportis in the intensive care unit at West Nebraska General Hospital. She is suffering from collapsed lungs, many broken bones and brusies and cuts. Their 1-year-old daughter, Rebecca was taken to the Bridgeport hospital and she reportedly was released Monday. She has multiple bruises and cuts. In addition to his widow and daughter, he is survived by a brother Charles of Scottsbluff, three sisters, Mrs. Thelma Jones, Mrs. Belva Krejel and Mrs. Leona Sulzbach all of Alliance and Mrs. Twila Lockaby of Brussels Belgium.

Bridgeport Rites Friday For Berry ANGORA (T-HNS) - Funeral services for Dale D. Berry, 34, will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Bridgeport. Mr. Berry died Sunday in a 2-car accident east of Angora. Mr. Berry was a graduate of Alliance High with the class of 1959. Burial will be in the Angora Cemetery. The Christensen Funeral Home in Bridgeport is in charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established to his memory to either the Seven Day Adventist Church or the Heart Fund.

Last Rites Held For Mrs. Berry Funeral services and burial for Mrs. Jennie E. Berry, 83, were held at Angora on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Berry died in Loveland, Colo., Saturday, after an extended illness. A service was held in Loveland on Monday and burial was in the Angora cemetery, following services there. She was born in Iowa and moved with her parents to Kansas when very young. She was married in 1890 to George W. Berry, who preceded her in death. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church. She is survived by two sons, Frank Berry and Walter Berry, both of Angora, 12 grandchildren and five grandchildren.

Edith Marvol BERRY, 94 Edith Marvol Berry, 94, of Bridgeport, died Tuesday evening, September 16, 2003 at the Heritage of Bridgeport. Her funeral will be Friday September 19, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Bridgeport with Reverend Craig Niemeier officiating. Interment will be in the Angora Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorials to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the Bridgeport Rescue Unit would be appreciated. Friends who wish may call at the Jolliffe Funeral at Bridgeport. Thursday, Sept. 18 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p. m., Friday Sept. 19 from 9:00 a.m. to Noon and at the Funeral. Edith was born December 31, 1908 at Athol, Kansas, the daughter of Robert Marion and Rose Emma (Cummings) Terrell. She was raised and educated in Kansas, Colorado and Nebraska, graduating from Alliance High School. She then attended Chadron State Teachers College. She taught for seven years. Edith was united in marriage to Walter Edward Berry, June 7, 1933 at Angora. They farmed in the Angora and Bridgeport areas. She later cooked at the Angora school, Bridgeport nursing home and Bridgeport hospital. Edith enjoyed crocheting embroidering, gardening and fishing. She was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church and several Bible groups at the Chruch, she belonged to several card groups and had been an active member of the Angora Election Board. Edith in survived by her daughters: rosa Jane Watson of Bridgeport, Georganna Louise Shiveley and her husband "Buck" of Ashland, NE., sons; Walter Melvin Berry of Bridgeport, Gerald Glen Berry and his wife Judy of North Platte, then grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren and sister: Albert Johnson of Cocoalalla, ID. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter Linda, 3 brothers, 2 sisters and son-in-law Dan Watson. To her family, Edith was more than just a "mother-in-law"---She was a "second mother" and a dear and loving friend and confidant. Her grandchildren adored her sweetness along with her witness.

Frank A. BERRY, Angora Rancher, Is Dead At 68 ANGORA (T-HNS) - Frank A. Berry, 68, died Friday in the Bethel Nursing Home in Bridgeport. Mr. Berry had lived in the Angora area since 1906 and was a retired farmer and trancher. He had been in the nursing home since August. Mr. Berry was born June 7, 1898, in Henbley, Neb., and married the late Lena Sherlock on March 12, 1918. She died in 1962. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and a veteran of World War I. Survivors include three sons, LeRoy of Bayard, Charles of Alliance, and dlae of Angora; and four daughters, Mrs. Thelma Jones, Mrs. Leona Sulzbach and Mrs. Belva Krejoi, all of Allianc, and Mrs. Twila Lockaby of Lakewood, Colo.; and a brother, Walter of Bridgeport. In addition to his wife, a son, brother, sister and grandson preceded him in death. Funeral services are pending at the Holecheck Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

Johnson, pastor of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Scottsbluff in charge. Mr. Berry died Friday in the Bethel Nursing Home in Bridgeport. Burial was in the Angora Cemetery. Members of the family request that persons desiring may designate their memorials to the Angora Cemetery Fund or to the Christmas Seal fund. OBITUARY: GEORGE WASHINGTON BERRY George Washington Berry, Boulder, Color., retired poster of the Seventh-day Adventist church, died Tuesday evening, January 26, 6:45 o'clock at the Boulder-Colorado Sanitarium, where he been removed the preceding Friday after sustaining a fracture of the right hip in a fall at his home. The body was shipped to Angora the following day for funeral service and burial in the family lot, Friday. Elder Berry was born May 15, 1866 at Freeport, Ill. He was united in marriage at Sr. Francis, Kans.to Miss Jane Elizabeth Pegg, May 16, 1890, on his 24th birthday anniversary Four children were born to them: Earl, who was killed in action in the first World War in 1918; Mable, wife of Clarence Rosenberger of Hemingford, who death occurred at the Boulder-Colorado Sanitarium in 1918, and Frank and Walter Berry, both farmers near Angora. Ten grandchildren; sons and daughters of Frank and Walter Berry; all of Angora, also survive. In 1906, the family moved to western Nebraska and Elder Berry homesteaded a farm near Angora, where Walter Berry and family now reside. That year he was elected as a member of the Hemingord Academy school board, and remained a member until the school was closed several years later. During that time and until 1919, Elder Berry worked for the Wyoming and Western Nebraska S. D. A. conference. In 1919, the family moved to Loveland and Elder Berry was later appointed pastor of the Loveland S. D. A. church, holding the pastorate until being retired in 1939. He and Mrs. Berry moved to Boulder on August 14, of that year.

Janice Berry of Angora Dies Nov. 6, 1975 SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb (AP) -- An Angora woman is Nebraska's latest traffic victim. The State Patrol said Mrs. Janice Berry, 28, died early Thursday in a hospital here of injuries she suffered Oct. 19 in a two-car mishap on a Morrill County road about one mile east of Angora. Mrs. Ber's husband, dale, 34, was killed outright in the accident. According to State Patrol investigators, the Bery car was west-bound in the woring land, attempting to slammed nearly broadside into an auto driven by Donald Loomis, 22, also of Angora. Loomis was also injured by crash, but was released from a hospital several days later. Mrs. Berry's death raised the state's 1975 highway traffic toil to 323, compared with 338 on this date last year.

KENNETH BERRY

KENNETH BERRY FATALLY SHOT Nov. 14, 1939 Kenneth Berry, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Berry of Angora, was fatally shot Saturday afternoon when a shotgun accidently discharged while he was picking corn at his father's farm at the edge of the village. The full charge struck him in the left breast, penetrating his heart, and he died instantly. Young Berry and a companion, Leonard Nichols, had just pulled into the Berry corn field when the horse started to shy at the corn husks. As Kenneth jumped to get the lines the shotgun, standing in the corner of the wagon box, either became tangled in the lines or fell to the floor of the wagon box and was accidentally discharged, striking him in the left breast. Nicholas unable to life his companion into the wagon box, hurried to the Berry home where hi notified the youth's mother, sister and brother. They returned to the scene of the accident and brought the body home. Mr. Berry, father of the youth was at Bridgeport attending a soil conservation meeting where he wa notified of the tragedy. Kenneth was born at Angora, August 18, 1918, and grew to manhood there. He graduated from Alliance high school in the class of 1937. He was prominent in athleics and went to the Lincoln with the track team in 1937. Funeral services were held from the Angora Community hall Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock and burial was in the Angora cemetery. Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Canady funeral home of Bridgeport. Rev. Howard Osborne ofhe Bridgeport Presbyterian church, conducted the service. Beside his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Thelma, Leona and Belva, and two brothers, LeRoy and Charles. Mrs. Mary Sherlock of Alliance and the Rev. and Mrs. G. W. Berry of Boulder, Colo., are grandparents.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 8, 1962 Mrs. Lena Berry, Angora Resident, Dies In Bridgeport BRIDGEPORT - (T-HNS) Mrs. Lena M. Berry, 61, of Angora died Friday afternoon in a Bridgeport Hospital. Mrs. Berry was born April 14, 1901 in Harlan, Ia., and had lived in Angora since 1910. She married Frank Berry on March 12, 1918 in Angora. He survives. Beside her husband she is survived by three sons, LeRoy of Bayard, Charles of Alliance, and Dale of Angora; by four daughters, Mrs. Thelma Jones, Mrs. Leona Sulzbach and Mrs. Belva Krejoi all of Alliance and Twila Berry of Arlington, Va.; by five brothers John Sherlock of Yucaipa Calif., Ernest and George Shrrlock, both of Angora, and Charles Sherlock of Alliance; by a sister Mrs. Rose Morrill of Alliance and by 12 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son Kenneth in 1939. Funeral services are pending with the Holechek Funeral Home of Bridgeport in charge of arrangement.

Berry Services Set For Tuesday Jan. 25, 1974 Funeral services for LeRoy G. Berry 51, of Angora will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church. Mr. Berry died Friday at his home. He was born August 27, 1922, in Angora where he lived his entire life. He was a member of the Nebraska Wheat Growers Association. He was a graduate of Alliance High with the class of 1941. He married the former Bernice Butler on April 11, 1945 in Bridgeport. Survivors include his widow, Bernice, of the home; three sons, Dean of Seattle, Wash, Roger of Alliance and Lynn of Casper, Wyo.; a daughter, Mrs. Irene Cooper of Lisco; brothers Charles of Scottsbluff and Dale of Angora; sister, Mrs. Thelma Jones, Mrs. Belva Krejci and Mrs. Leana Sulzabch, all of Alliance and Twila Lackaby of Broomfiled, Colo.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, his parents and a brother. The Rev. C. W. Buehler will officiate and burial will be in the Angora Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the heart fund. Murray G. BERRY, 20, Of Angora Dies In Denver News has been received here of the death of Murray G. BERRY, 20, of Denver, Colo., on Wednesday in Denver. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Berry of Angora. Mr. Berry was born December 2, 1945, at Alliance and attended grade school in Angora and graduated from Alliance High in 1964. He graduated from National electronic Institute in Denver this year and was employed as a draftsman for Worthington Corp., in Denver, Colo. His unexpected death apparently followed a heart attack. In addition to his parents he is survived by three brothers, Dean of Spokane, Wash., Rodger and Lynn, bother of the home; a sister, Irene, also of the home; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Butler of New Plymouth, Ida., and Frank Berry of Angora. Memorials may be made to the Angora Cemetery Fund or the Heart Fund. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, at the Alliance Methodist Church with the Rev. Loyd Bliss, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Angora Cemetery. Mr. Berry died Wednesday at his home. He was born Jan. 28, 1907 in Angora and reared and educated in Angora and Colorado. He married Edith Terrell June 7, 1933 at Angora and they farmed in the Angora and Bridgeport areas until retiring in 1980. Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Rosa Watson of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Georganna Shiveley of Auburn; tow sons, Walter of Clinton Ill., and Gerald of Alliance; and by 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The Rev. Glenn Denke will officiate and burial will be in the Angora Cemetery. The Christensen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Oct, 3, 2001 Nolan E. Blackstone, 79, of Bayard, died early Tuesday morning, September 25, 2001 at his home. His Funeral was Friday, Sept 28 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bayard Assembly of God Church with Pastor Jeff Twombly officiating. Interment was in the Angora Cemetery. A Memorial has been established to the Aging office of Wastern Nebraska Equipment Fund. Jolliffe Funeral Home at Scottsbluff was in charge of the arrangements. Nolan was born March 31, 1922 at Bayard, the son of Charles and Mabel (Bowers) Blackstone. He was raised and educated at Bayard. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Watson, May 25, 1949 at Bayard. Until his retirement, Noland farmed and ranched He is survived by his son; Jim Blackstone and his wife Deborah of Conway, Ark., daughters: Nolene Lattin and her husband Steve of Bayard, Janice Williams and her husband Church of Shinnston, WV, Shelli Rabenberg and her husband John of Edmond, OK, 15 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, brothers: Earl Blackstone of Bayard and Homer Blackstone of Torrington, WY, sister: Mary Newman and her husband Mario of Gregory, SD. John E. BOWERS Died Saturday at W. Nebr. Hospital Funeral Services for John Edward Bowers, 77, of Bayard, who died Saturday, August 3 at West Nebraska General Hospital at Scottsbluff, were Tuesday, August 6 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bayard Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Don Reid officiating. Interment was in the Angora Cemetery. A Memorial has been established to the Bayard Rescue Unit. Christensen Funeral Home of Bayard was in charge of the arrangements. John was born August 1, 1908 at Angora. He moved with his parents to Wisconsin in 1915. He returned to the Bayard area in 1930 where he has farmed. John married Helen Stuckey, after her death, he married Lorraine Steffensmeier McBride, October 1, 1958 at Alliance. John is survived, by his wife Lorraine, Sons: Jay Roy Bowers of Bayard, Gary Bowers of Springfield, OR. And donal Bowers of Vancouver, WA. Daughters: Darlene Palmer, Delores Wilhoit and Donna Drake all of Vancouver, WA. Susan Casares of Bayard and Johnnies Castellaw of Broadwater. Step-Sons: Harold Hoeral and Lawrence Hoeral both of Vancouver, WA. Dan McBride of Rifle, Co., Chuck McBride of Broadwater and Dr. Mike McBride of Bridgeport. Step-Daughters: Isabelle Shoopman of Flint, MI., Marge Robinson of Bayard and Rebecca Gordon of Scottsbluff. Brothers: Charley, Cal and Lyle all of Bayard and Harry of Torrington. Sister Bernice Hull of Sunnyside WA. Seventeen Grandchildren and Eleven Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, a sister and a step-son. Casket Bearers Were Melvin, Rodney and Greg Bowers, Dr. Mike and chuck McBride and rock Casres. Honorary Casket Bearers were Elmer Mehling; Joe Acker, Joe, Earl, Noland and homer Blackstone.

GLEN WILLIAM BURTON

Glen William Burton December 31, 1940 - May 20, 2008 Glen William Burton, 67, of Gering died Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at home with his family by his side. Funeral services were May 23 at Zion Evangelical Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Garry Schick officiating. Interment was in West Lawn Cemetery in Gering with military honors provided by the Nebraska National Guard. The Glen Burton Memorial Fund has been established in care of the family. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.dugankramer.com. Glen was born Dec. 31, 1940 in Angora, Neb. to George Wilbur and Mable (Kern) Burton. He received his education in Bridgeport and Bayard before entering the Army in 1960. He was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska and was honorably discharged. He returned to the area and married Inez Ash on April 19, 1964 in Gering. They lived in Scottsbluff until 1965 when they moved to Gering. Glen worked for the Natural Resource Conservation Corps as a technician surveyor. He had over forty-four years of employment with the federal government. Glen was a member of Zion Evangelical Church, Oddfellows, Pheasants Forever, FARM, a hospital volunteer, and a member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees. His hobbies were hunting with bow and rifle, camping, fishing, and carpentry. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, driving and hiking in area canyons, and photography. He was a past Cub and Boy Scout Master. He enjoyed tinkering with old farm machinery, telling jokes, and playing pinochle. Survivors include his wife: Inez; children: Kevin (Amy) Burton, Debbie Cowan and fianc� Ronnie Judd of Mitchell, Larry (Tracy) Jackson of Estherbrook, Wyo., and Gary (Marla) Jackson Mullen, Neb.; brothers: Gene Burton of Bayard, Howard Burton of Texas, and Merle Burton of Demming, N.M.; sister: Ruby Sherlock of Lakewood, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; mother-in-law: Inez Scofield of Gering; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; and brother: Floyd.

John Burry Apr. 6, 1966 BRIDGEPORT - John Burry, 85, Bridgeport, died early Monday morning at a Minatare nursing home. He was born June 27, 1880, at Milford, Iowa. He Married Lucy G. Kempter on Feb. 20, 1900, at Cairo, Neb. They homesteaded near Angora in 1909, and Mr. Burry has been a resident since that time. His wife died in 1960. Survivors include four sons, George of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Cecil of Lyons, Colo., Joe of Bridgeport and Lyle of Kimball; Two daughters, Mrs. Lucy Whitlock of Farmington, N.M., and Mrs. Mildred Messcich of Billings, Mont.; one brother, Charlie of Pewaukee, Wis.; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m.; Wednesday at the Angora community hall. Burial will be in the Angora Cemetery. The Holechek Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rites Held Saturday for Mrs. Lucy BURRY, 77, Angora Area Resident Funeral services were held Saturday for Mrs. Lucy Burry, resident of the Angora community for 51 years, who passed away last Wednesday at Veterans Memorial Hospital here. The rites were conducted at Angora community hall by Rev. Bernard Tuttle, pastor of First Baptist church Bridgeport. Burial was in the Angora cemetery under the direction of Holechek Funeral Home. Mrs. Burry was born July 13, 1882 of Cairo, Nebr., and was married there Febr. 20, 1900, to John Burry. Before homesteading near Angora in 1908 they resided in Cheyenne county. They observed their 50th wedding anniversary just last month. Survivors in addition to her husband included four sons, George of Council Bluffs, Ia., Cecil of Lyons, Colo., Joe of Northport and Dale of Kimball; two daughters, Mrs. Lucy Whitlock of Farmington, N.M. and Mrs. Mildred Middleton of Fort Cullins, Colo., a brother Frank Kempter of Cairo; a sister Mrs. Maude ??lund of Grand Island; 27 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

Lyle W. BURRY Sr., 78 CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Lyle W. Burry Sr., 78, died Friday, June 21, 1996, at a Cheyenne health care facility. He was born June 4, 1918, at Angora, Neb. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, and had served in World War II and the Korean War. He lived in North Platte, Neb., before moving to Cheyenne 17 years ago. He was a truck driver for Consolidated Frieghtways. He was a member of the Jaycees, Reserve Officers Association and American Legion Post #6. He married Virginia Burbank; she survives at the home. Other survivors include a son Lyle Burry, Jr., Dundee, Ill; daughters, Cassandra Burbank-Hughes of Cheyenne, Juanita Loews of Las Vegas and Kathryn Burry of Kearney, Neb.; sister, Mildred Micek, Sterling, Colo.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, at Schrader Chapel in Cheyenne. The Rev. G. Emery Hurd will officiate. Cremation will be at Schrader's Sunset Park Crematory. Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.

Mary Burry, 92, Died at Nursing Home; Burial Is Saturday Mar. 10, 1976 Services for Mary Burry, 92, of Bridgeport who died Wednesday at the Bridgeport Nursing Home, will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Hugh E. Campbell will officiate with burial in the Angora Cemetery. Christensen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established. Mrs. Burry was born March 23, 1883, at Mason City, Ill. She married Fred Burry in 1902 at Grand Island and they homesteaded near Mardo, So. Dak., in 1905. He died in 1919 and the family moved to Angora in Mary of 1927. She has lived in the area since. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church. Survivors include four daughters, Alice Solid of Martle, So. Dak., Della Lawrence and Gladys Peterson, both of Bridgeport, and Estella Clark of Bloomington Minn. Three sons, Elmer of Chadron, Walters of Missouri and Clarence of Broadwater; 21 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

MINATARE - Walter C. Burry, 81, of Minatare, died Dec. 30, 1995, at his home. A funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Minatare Assembly of God Church with the Revs. Dwight Sandoz and William Jay officiating. Burial will be in the Angora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. today and from 9 to noon Tuesday at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff. He was born Aug. 2, 1914, at Murdo, S.D., to Frederick and Mary (Quaring) Burry. The family moved to Angora in 1927, where he attended school. He married Eunice L. Metz, April 6, 1939, in Scottsbluff. The couple farmed in the Angora community until 1954 when they moved to Minatare. He was a carpenter and retired at age 78. He received his GED from Western Nebraska Community College at the age of 75. He served on the Minatare city Council for 15 years. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Minatare and served on the board and held various offices. He was an active member of the Gideons. He is survived by his wife of Minatare; daughters and sons-in-law, Anita and Richard Duncan of Morrill, Sharon and William John of Broken Bow, and Donna and Jim Ruybal of Alamosa, Colo.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters Della Lawrence and Gladys Peterson both of Bridgeport, and Estella Clark of Springfield, Mo.; and brother Clarence Burry of Broadwater. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, brother Elmer and sister Alice.

PHYLLIS J. BAIRD

Phyllis J. BAIRD, 70, of Sidney, died on Wednesday, Aug. 27 2003, at Memorial Health Center, Extended Care in Sidney. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, at the First United Methodist Church in Sidney. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney. Phyllis Jean Baird was born June 21, 1933 to George B. and Florence E. (White) Baird on the family farm east of Bridgeport, Nebraska. She attended her first four years of schooling at District 3, a small country school near the farm that had been built on ground donated by her father. They moved to the Sidney Draw area in 1942. Phyllis continued her schooling at District 33, then into Sidney High School where she graduated in 1950. She attended Chadron State Teachers College in Chadron, NebraskaIn 1953 she began working for Ohio Oil Company as a telephone operator and receptionist for the next 11 years. Phyllis returned to Chadron State College to get her teaching degree after Ohio Oil Company, now known as Marathon Oil Company, closed. She graduated in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts in History, Social Studies and Science. She began her teaching career in Gage County at Riverview Consolidated School in Holmesville, Nebraska. In September of 1968, Phyllis began teaching Junior High students at McCook City School District. She taught there until the death of her father in 1973. She continued to substitute teach in the surrounding area for several years following her return to SidneyPhyllis returned to the family farm, updating it with center pivots and experimenting with a variety of crops unheard of before diversified farming practices began. Until recently, Phyllis continued to check her pivot motors, count bales of hay, and keep an eye on the weather. Phyllis enjoyed dogs and always had either a Collie or German Shepard near by. She is survived by her beloved dog, SpadePhyllis enjoyed journeying all around the world, experiencing life through her travels. She visited Europe, Spain, Indonesia, China, Japan, Australia, Mexico, Central America and Brazil. She loved her family and her special friendsShe was preceded in death by her parents and infant sister and a nephew, Henry Hopkins. Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law of Dalton; her nieces and nephew of Minatare, Sidney, Dalton and Chappell; six great-nieces and nephews; three step-nieces and nephews of Sacramento, California, Bayard and Dalton; seven step-great nieces and nephews.

BANTA, Richard A. Born Bridgeport, Nebraska 1925. Served four years in U.S. Army WWII. Praticing architect in So. California since 1954. Passed away peacefully February 9, 2007 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.Beloved husband of C. for 58 years. Devoted father of P. L. and G. P.. Caring grandfather of K. H., M. H., N. L., and J. L., a sister of B. U.Richard and C. enjoyed traveling to forty countries over the years and took many trips across the U.S. and Canada in a motor home/van designed and built by Richard.His children can recall fun filled years with their father who was a great dad and role model. He was a wonderful husband and will be greatly missed.A memorial will be held at a later date in Los Osos, CA.The family requests that any gift in Richard's memory be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc., of Los Angeles.

Calvin �Cal� William BOWERS, 90, of Bayard, passed from this life to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 16, 2002 at the Beverly Square Assisted Living in Sidney. His funeral will be Wednesday, June 19 at 10 a.m. at the Bayard Assembly of God Church with Pastor Dan Zitterkopf officiating. Interment will be in the Bayard Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Church. Friends may call at the Church today from noon until 7 p.m. Jolliffe Funeral Home at Scottsbluff is in charge of the arrangements. Cal was born June 2, 1912 at Angora, the son of Barney and Mercie (Gibbs) Bowers. He was raised and educated in the Angora area. Cal was united in marriage to Olla L. Batt, July 29, 1945 at Bayard. During his life, he farmed in the Bayard and Goodstreak areas, managed a gas station, worked at the Bayard sugar factory, was employed as a parts manager at International Harvester and John Deere Dealerships, a car salesman for Ford Motor Company, salesman for the Purina Feed and Seed Company and worked for Morrill County in the Road Maintenance Department. After retiring, Cal enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, spending time with his family, hosting relatives and friends. Cal was a long-time member of the Bayard Assembly of God Church. He is survived by his two sons; two grandchildren; two brothers and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Olla on Sept. 27, 1988, two sisters and two brothers.

Tillie Mary (HEMMER) BILLETER, 97, a longtime Broadwater resident, died at Heritage of Bridgeport April 20. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at St. Patrick�s Church in Sidney with Fr. Novakowski officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney. Friends may call at the Gehrig Funeral Home from 8 a.m. to noon today. There will be no viewing at the church. Memorials are to the All Soul�s Church in Bridgeport or the donor�s choice. Tillie Mary Billeter was born April 16, 1905 at Petersburg, Neb., the daughter of Mathias and Theresia (Batliner) Hemmer. She moved with her parents to Dresdon, Kan. when she was a small child then moved to Sidney in a covered wagon in 1908. She attended St. Patrick�s Academy and High School, graduating in 1924. Tillie taught school in Morrill and Cheyenne Counties. She married Floyd Billeter on July 2, 1929 in Sidney. They moved to Kimball in 1930. In 1932 they moved to Broadwater and since that time she had been a homemaker, Garden City clerk for a number of years and also worked for VanDruff & Klock Grain Elevator. She was a member of the Riverside Club for over 60 years, joining in 1937. She was also a member of All Soul�s Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Society. Tillie was an avid gardener, enjoying it until very late in life. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four sisters, Ellen Hockerson, Mary Hemmer, Clara Bales and Frances Kaus; three brothers, John, William and Andrew Hemmer. Survivors include her sister and numerous nieces and nephews. Gehrig and Son Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
