FRASE, 01 FEB 1999

I am looking for any information and relatives of FREDERICK FRASE family he was born in Germany in 1833 and emigrated to the U.S. around 1858 and settled in Walworth Co., WI.  He married Minna Ludeman 7 Dec. 1858.  She emigrated with her parents from Germany in August of 1858.  Frederick served with the 12th Wis. Battery during the Civil War and was injured when a horse fell on him.  He was discharged in June 1865.  Sometime after 1873 they moved to Page Co., IA., and again by 1880 to Harlan Co.  He is listed on the 1880 NE. Census for Harlan Co., in Fairfield Precinct.  Where he continued to live until his death 2 May 1905.  His wife was killed by a run away team on 29 Nov. 1901.  I found obituaries for them in the Orleans Courier dated 12 May 1905, and 6 Dec. 1901.  They are buried in the Lubeck or Old Geramn Luthern Cemetary.  He was the father of eleven children one of his daughters (Minnie) married Edward Tegtman.  He had at least three sons who took homesteads in Harlan county they were William, Herman, and Fred.  My great-grandfather Charles Frase lived in Smith Co. KS.  I have found the name FRASE spelled several different ways including FRAISE, FRAZE, and on the pension records and 1890 Veterns Schedules FRAES.  Any information would be helpful this has been an interesting puzzle piece to locate.

John R. & Sarah (TRIMBLE) WILLIS, were living in Alma, NE, in 1882.
John and Sarah were both b. 1824 in Indiana. They lived in Haddon Twp.,
Sullivan Co., IN, and they were there in the 1850 and 1860 Censuses,
then they disappear. This letter is the first lead I have as to where
they went from Indiana.

John & Sarah had at least 13 children: Joseph (b. 1844), Levi (b.
1845/6), Catharine (b. 1847/8), Charles B. (b. 1850/1), William Murphy

any of these WILLISes is most welcome. Have descendants of William
Murphy WILLIS and ancestors of Sarah TRIMBLE. John R. WILLIS is a
mystery.

historical marker near there that says: "ERECTED TO THE PIONEER SPIRIT OF THESE EARLY SETTLERS OF SCANDANAVIAN TOWNSHIP" and then lists the names of the men. Then it says: "UPON THIS SPOT EXISTED THE FIRST POST OFFICE, SCHOOL HOUSE, STORE AND BLACKSMITH SHOP IN THE COMMUNITY".

SHIPPERT - 22 Sep 1999

Howdy folks! I am trying to make a connection between Sam Shippert born 05 June 1856 in Pennsylvania, died 1937 in Republican City, Harlan County NE and the Schipperts who live in Harlan County. Sam was the youngest son of Christopf Friedrich Schippert, and the only one born in America. My gg-grandfather Wilhelm Friedrich Schippert (Sam's oldest brother) changed his name to William Shippert, and he settled in Dixon IL, where this branch of the family still lives. I am sure there is somebody who holds a key to this mystery. Thanks in advance!

WOLF - 6 Nov 2000

According to my information my great-great-grandfather (Heinrich Wolf) and great-great-grandmother (Elisabeth) lived in Alma 1872-1877 (or so). They arrived with 2 children, had 3 more while there, then moved on to Oregon.

Elisabeth's father (Jacob) was also there, and died there in 1879 (Feb 10). His sons Jacob (Elisabeth's brother) evidently stayed on, since he died in Alma 1/29/1909. Another son Adam (Elisabeth's half-brother) died in Alma 10/9/1928, and according to my information had a "big family" -- but, I don't know anything about him, or his family.

GARRETT, BOEVEK - 9 May 2001

Trying to find descendants of W.A. Garrett, who lived in Oxford, Nebraska. About two years ago I purchased an old family album at a flea market in Los Angeles. The album contains more than fifty photographs which appear to be of the same family, in large part. The only indetifying information is W.A. Garrett written on the back of two or three photos (all of the same young man) and then a photo of a young girl with the same name on the back (declaring ownership of the photo most likely).

There is a photo of a man, woman and girl taken in Tolono, Illinois at the Marshall Studio that has "For Lilla" written on the back. There are also a few photos taken at the Gamble (or Gamble & Stafford) Studio in Champaign, Illinois. One photo has Lillie Boevek (or something like that) written on the back.

One photo was taken in Salt Lake City, and most of the rest were (if identified by photography studio at all) taken at the Clark, Wyatt, Rodstrom or Carlson Studios in Holdrege, Nebraska. A few are dated l890 and l891, all of the photos appear to be no later than l900-l905.

Photo of a toddler taken at Peter Schnack Studio, Franklink, Neb. Photo of a lady taken at Abrams Studio in Decatur, Illinois. Photo of three sisters(late teens, early twenties) taken at the Starrod & LeForgee Studio in Decatur, Illinois. Photo of a young man taken at the Robinson's Photo Parlour, Franklin, Neb. Photo of a young man taken at the Bishop Bros. photo Gallery, location unknown.

I would really like to find the descendants of this family. If anyone has any information, please contact me. I would also appreciate it if you would post this to your query list for future reference. Thank you, Martha Bernie - Woodland Hills, CA

BROWN - 10 Jul 2001

I am looking for info on Hiram Brown Jr who died in Orlean, Harlan County, Nebraska in 1878 according to his wife Jane Ann (Webb) Brown Healy's 1926 obituary. Jane, sometimes "Jenny" remarried my Great Great Grandfather Ozias Case Healy in Mapleton, Minnesota in 1893. I don't think he was probably buried in Nebraska because his wife who died in 1926 was said to have been buried in Albany Wisconsin. I'm trying to figure out how "Jenny" met my Great Great Grandfather when my Great Great Grandfather to my knowledge had no relatives in Nebraska or the southern part of Wisconsin and none of "Jenny's" six children settled in either area either. I'm thinking that my Great Great Grandfather maybe knew Hiram Brown Jr. in his younger days in Connecticut. I'm trying to determine Ozias Case Healy's birthplace and am looking for possible clues. Thanks for any suggestions. Scott [email protected]

James R. born OH 1810Annie born OH 1813Albert C. born IA 1850Levena (Adkins) born IA 1859 All are buried in the Alma Cemetary. It is a family rumor that they may have changed family name from Maurer after James parents migrated from Germany and that they may have been Jewish.  There is a second rumor which indicates either Annie or Levena were Native American, perhaps Cherokee. If anyone has information on these family members, I would appreciate hearing from you. Gayle L. Bandt [email protected]

David Snell was born and reared in Clermont Co OH.  After the death of his first wife,  he remarried and brought most of his family to Harlan County.  This was about 1860-70.  He lived out his life in this area and children stayed on but it appears there are no Snells now in Harlan County. Burials in Republican City Cemetery.  Several of us have done a lot of work to put together the ancestry of this Snell family. The immigrant ancestor was from Germany and the name was spelled Schnell and they settled in Orangeburgh SC about 1735. This family is very interesting and we would like to share with anyone who is  a descendant of David Snell. Virginia  [email protected]

I believe he married Jane Peak in Ripley County, Indiana in the late 1860’s and they moved to Harlan County around 1870-1875? I think Jane died around 1905 in Marshall Nebraska(Clay County) I do not have his exact dates of death or birth and would also like to confirm the names of his parents, Thomas Peeke and Lucy Peeke?

If you have any information on Davis and Jane Peak please email me at [email protected]

Thank you very much. Karnish, Donald
