What a delightful meeting we had with a program presented by Steve Bunck! Cameras were the main topic and he did a super job. We learned about the old cameras and the new digital cameras. He also showed us how to re-produce old documents using the camera. Some of our old documents are too fragile to be scanned and use of the camera to shoot a picture of the old document certainly saves it. Thanks Steve!

We had faces in attendance that we don't generally see at the meetings. This is good.

Hand outs were given to those attending regarding the latest web sites for Wisconsin. The State Historical Society has many free items out there, so-o if you have roots in Wisconsin, this is a new find.

The scanning is moving along, Claire is now in the "V" alphabet and will soon end those clippings, but she has almost "30" more drawers to put out on our web site. It is our plan to also put out the 1885 NE Census for the following counties: Dodge, Colfax, Cuming, Saunders, and Butler. These were transcribed by members of our society and are on 3 x 5 cards.

We have three upcoming celebrations in February, the birthdays of our past President's George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and don't forget Valentine's Day!

The main bridge across Platte river has been closed to traffic today. Whatever traffic has passed that direction, has crossed the river on the ice. NO teams have attempted this. Mail Carrier Forney, who goes across into Saunders county, made his regular trip this morning on horseback, and succeeded in picking his way across on the ice with a horse.

LAUGHTER IS GOOD MEDICINE

An older friend, recently returned from her hometown in North Carolina, says they've spruced up the churchyard cemetery since her last visit several years back. "Lots of new greenery," she said. "And families are together now."

"Together?" I asked, puzzled.

"Well, years ago they never much worried where they buried someone because everyone was a neighbor anyhow. They'd just dig a grave wherever it seemed to balance things. But, they've redone it so people are with their children and grandchildren, instead of scattered."

"You mean they exhumed all those people and buried them?"

"Oh no, she said. "They just shifted the headstones. Everyone agrees it looks ever so much nicer."
