"Ivan Palser Services Held"

BIG SPRINGS -- Ivan Jay Palser, 77, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at the Perkins County Hospital.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at the Assembly of God Church in Big Springs with the Revs. Edgar Palser and Chris Wadle officiating.

He was born April 22, 1926, on a farm southwest of Big Springs, the son of William H. and Grace B. (Taylor) Palser. He spent his early years on the family farm, helping raise dairy cows and hogs and grow a variety of crops. He attended Longview Grade School near the family farm and graduated from Big Springs High School in 1943.

Mr. Palser was drafted into the Army in the fall of 1944. He served in Panama as a staff sergeant.

After his discharge, he attended Southwest Bible College in 1949-50, and in 1950, he married Mary Helen Beal.

The couple made [their] home on the family farm, where he engaged in farming with his father and brothers, john and Vern. In 1968 they formed W.H. Palser Farms, inc., which is now run by John's son, Steven.

Mr. Palser served on the Western irrigation District board for many years and was also a member of the Longview School Board. He was a member of the Big Springs Assembly of God Church, the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a lifelong member of the Gideon Association. 

His hobbies included motorcycles and riding. Mr. palser and his wife attended the annual motorcycle rally in Sturgis, S.D., for nearly 30 years, usually with relatives and friends. 

Burial was in the Big Springs Cemetery.
 


 
Schaffer, Iona 08/29/1923 to 01/10/2009
            Iona Schaffer of Woodburn, died Jan 10, 2009.  A service has been held.  Born in Big Springs, Neb., on Aug 29, 1923, to Mike and Glyde Nielson, Iona moved to Oregon, then California where she met and married Jim Schaffer.  They lived there until semi-retirement, and then moved to Oregon.  Iona was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jim; brothers, Aurelius, Glenn and an infant brother; and sister, Ilene.  She is survived by her daughter, Maxine Cueller; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.  She also leaves five sisters -Inez of Oregon, Irene, Gladys and Rosie of Nebraska, and Esther of Texas; and many nieces, nephews and friends.  She will be missed.
