On this site you will find news, information, and announcements for and about: Berks, Burnham, Centerville, Cheese Creek, Cobb Jct., Denton, Emerald, Hallam, Kramer, Martell, Olive Branch, Princeton, Rokeby, Sprague, & Yankee Hill, Nebraska (all in Southwest Lancaster County).

Interest in establishing a historical society arose during planning of the 125th anniversary of the founding of Denton -- celebrated July 27-28, 1996.  Over the next several months discussions continued and on Tuesday, January 14, 1997 an organizational meeting was held and the Denton Community Historical Society was formed.

We invite everyone with an interest and knowledge of Denton and the surrounding community to participate in preserving the history and heritage of our community for posterity -- that many can come 'home to the memories' to revisit and relive some of the past and to visit the continuing growth of Denton, Nebraska.

This site includes historical information of interest to the residents of Denton and to the many descendants of its early inhabitants who are researching their family history.

If you have school or church records, newspaper articles, photographs, a family history or two or almost anything related to Denton history and would like to share the materials with other Denton history and Denton family history researchers, please contact me - If you have content to contribute, comments, or suggestions concerning this web site, contact: [email protected]

DCHS meets monthly on the fourth Tuesday in the Denton Community Center, 7115 Lancaster Avenue, Denton, NE. All programs are open to the public. A snack is served to all who attend.

The Denton Community Historical Society (DCHS) holds as its primary responsibility to collect, preserve, research and interpret objects, artifacts, documents and published materials relative to the heritage and cultural environment of people and events in the Village of Denton and the surrounding areas of Denton, Berks, Cheese Creek, Rokeby, Yankee Hill, Burnham, Cobb Junction, Centerville and Emerald.

As an educational institution, the Society encourages public interest and participation in its activities through special programs, publications and distribution of information via the news media.  The Society will provide interpretive, research and preservation assistance to other institutions and individuals to the extent our resources will allow.
