DOBSON

[Note: These folks were known to have lived in Seward County, but may have moved to, or gone to church in Ulysses. - John McCoy]

My great grandfather was Park Dobson, who came to the US from Mohill, Leitrim Co, Ireland with his parents in either 1863 or '73. His father was also Park, and Park, Jr. was a child at the time. There was a large family, and I haven't determined how many of the children came at the same time the parents did. I suspect some of the children had already come over before. My main questions have been, why would they have come to Nebraska, possibly during the Civil War. I have failed to find ship's records for them, and have recently changed my thinking that it may have been 1873 rather than '63 as family "records" tell me because I recently found a certified copy of Naturalization of Park Dobson in 1875 which indicates residency of 2 years. I believe that there were already some Dobsons there at the time in the 1870 census records, but not mine. I do know that there were two large families in Mohill, the Thomas Dodsons and the Park Dobsons. Trying to determine intermarriages between the two families may be a big task, if even possible. Every family seemed to have a Park and a Thomas. What ever books or information you can point me to would be appreciated! Thank you!! Nancy Lematta, Vancouver, WA ([email protected])

EAST, LAUVER LAWVER, WAY WHAY

My husbands family all came from the Butler County are and I don't find any information on any of them. My father-in-law was Harry Fredrick EAST who was born or lived in Ulysses and his birth date was Dec 28, 1916. His Father was Jess EAST who lived in the Brainard area and was born on Aug. 7, 1893. Jess's wife was Daisy LAUVER or LAWVER who came from Rising City as far as I know and her birth date was Dec 18 1895. I know that there was a family connection with the Way or Whay family in Rising City and that my husband used to refer to his Uncle Ray Way. I don't know if there were any deeds or land records to these families. I believe that Ray Way had a large cattle ranch in Rising City. I believe there is still one member of the family still living there, but I don't remember her first name. I know the last name is WAY. My name is Marilyn A. EAST and my husband is Michael H. EAST, who is the oldest son of Harry F. EAST. I can be reached at the following e-mail address. ([email protected])

I am looking for information regarding my great grandparents, Charles K. and Augusta Miller Schubert. They came to the USA from Romerstadt, Austria and settled in Butler County, Nebraska. He and Augusta were married in Butler County in 1883. I have visited Ellis Island in search of any information I could find on them. However, I was told that the immigrants who came prior to 1890 landed across the harbor at Castle Rock, and until recently their records had been thought to have been destroyed. The LDS church is currently working on the restoration of those document for entry into their archives.
