The cemetery is named after Duke Fender, the former land owner upon which the cemetery sits. The Cemetery is adjacent to the Sampson- Wilson Cemetery.
DIRECTIONS: Proceed on 19W east towards Burnsville to the stop sign at Bee Log Junction. Make a right and cross the Cane River. Guys General Store/Gas Station is on the left. Make your first left onto Bald Mountain Road. Continue for about 4 miles (passing through Bee Log village) up on the winding 2-lane road towards Bald Mountain. Make a left onto Sampson Mountain Road and continue up the hill for about a half mile and you will see a livestock gate on the right. This is the entrance to both Duke and Sampson Wilson Cemeteries which are next to each other.
NOTE: This project was in partnership with Julian Fender who is related to the people interred here. All photos are courtesy of Julian Fender (unless otherwise noted). Feel free to email me your comments, photos and info. |
