Who
We Are
We are a non-profit society, formed on
October 19, 1976, by a group of dedicated
local researchers including Francine
Swaim, Bobbie Grigg, Frances Elkins,
and Carolyn Hager. In those days, local
records for the state of North Carolina
were just beginning to be centralized,
catalogued and made accessible to
researchers. The ladies who began our
society thought it would be a good time
to begin sharing the new wealth of
available records via their very own
genealogical publication.
Today, with a nationwide membership of
between four to five hundred, our goals
are still in keeping with their original intent:
1. To increase interest in and raise the
standard of genealogical research and
compilation by means of educational
programs, workshops and publications
of genealogical data.
2. To encourage and instruct members in
the art and practice of genealogical research
and compilation.
3. To acquaint members with sources of
genealogical material in Randolph County
and elsewhere.
4. To serve, through periodicals and
otherwise, as a medium of genealogical
information and exchange.
5. To promote the collection, preservation
and use of manuscripts, documents and
other materials of genealogical and
historical value.
