On this 13th day of December A. D. 1845 personally appeared before me, E. S. Howell, a Magistrate in and for the said county, Sarah Leatherwood, a resident of said county, and after being duly sworn according to law, doth on her oath declare that she is a daughter of John Burns and Ann his wife, now Ann McKizick who is now an applicant for a pension and a citizen of Haywood County North Carolina, that she was born on the 7th day of February Seventeen hundred & eighty one (1781) and she is the fifth child of the said John Burns & Ann his wife. That she has her own age as copyed from her Mother�s record of the ages of her Family, which one of her Brothers carried from this Country to some of the Western Countries many years ago which said record is a precise copy from her Mother except her name was changed from Sarah Burns to Sarah Leatherwood, which said copy was placed in her own Bible in the handwriting of one of her Brothers together with her own Family Record, which is herewith sent and of which the following is a copy.

John Leatherwood was born in the Year of our Lord January 2nd 1779
Sarah Leatherwood was born in the Year of our Lord February 7th 1781
John & Sarah Leatherwood were married in the Year of our Lord Nov. 25th 1802
William Leatherwood was born in the Year of our Lord August 25th 1803
Mary Leatherwood was born in the Year of our Lord December 31st 1804
Edward Leatherwood was born in the Year of our Lord March 18 1807
John Leatherwood was born in the Year of our Lord March 17th 1809
Samuel Leatherwood was born in the Year of our Lord May 14th 1811

And she further declares that her father the said John Burns died in the month of January 1805 - signed Sarah Leatherwood . Sworn to and subscribed before me the day and date above.

**Howell adds to the document to say that Sarah has been a resident of Haywood County for twenty years or more, and that she is an intelligent woman.**
