Rufus A. Howell


Services for Rufus A. Howell, 80, of Route 2, Waynesville, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Garrett Funeral Home of Waynesville. He died Monday in a Haywood County nursing home.

The Rev. G. W. Jameson, the Rev. Rex Gibbs and the Rev. David Teague will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.

A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Albert and Easter Fowler Howell. He retired from the maintainence department of the Haywood County School Systems and attended Dellwood United Methodist Church.

Surviving are the wife, Bonnie Teague Howell: two sons, Neal Teague Howell of Bloomington, Ind., and James Rufus Howell of Waynesville; a sister, Ora Sutton of Waynesville; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tom Howell, Dale Parton, Don Cowan, Ralph Messer, Delmas Caldwell, and Frank Allison.

Honorary Pallbearers are Earl Messer, Harvey Dulin, Bill Franklin, Fred and Davis Galloway and Lee Evans.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Altzheiner's Association, 50 Doctors Park, Asheville, NC
