WOOD, HYATT

I'm researching my g.g.grandfather Robert WOOD, who married Frances HYATT September 8, 1830 in Haywood County. She is daughter of Meshack HYATT, listed on 1820 Haywood and 1830 Buncombe censuses. I have done tremendous amount of research on the Wood line but so far have not established father of Robert Wood beyond a reasonable doubt. Would be happy to correspond with anyone has information or inquiries on this line.

CRAWFORD, LAND

I am researching SAMUEL MONROE CRAWFORD of Haywood Co. He married MARY JANE LAND , 1 April 1838 in Haywood Co. He and Mary lived there until abt 1842 at which time they moved to Gilmer Co., Georgia. I do not have any information on Samuel's father or mother. Any help would be appreciated.

I am looking for information about GRIFFITH HENSON married to POLLY HOLLAND HENSON. Father of JAMES TURNER HENSON who married MARTHA GROGAN HENSON. Father of ULLYSSES GRANT HENSON born 6/16/1868 died 10/25/1911. Married to MATTIE CUMI LEWIS HENSON born 4/30/1869 died 7/16/1951. Records show that the first Henson may be from Ireland. My Grandmother was born in 1895 in Maggie Valley, NC. Her name was MARGARET SHELTON. Her mother name was Cordelia and father TOM SHELTON. Cordelia's mother and father were FRANK TIEG and JANIE BROOK. My Grandmother passed away in 1990. She raised me as an American Indian, Cherokee, of the deer clan. My Great Great Grandfather was WILLIAM M. ROBISON. Spelling could be Rob(i,in,er,e,ert)son. I have found it spelled phonetically many times. William M lived in Jackson County at the time of the 1860 census, and he was 32 years old. He was married to ELIZABETH FISHER. In 1862 he joined the 62nd N.C. Infantry Co.H. He died as a P.O.W. after being captured at Cumberland Gap. There is an ISRAEL ROBESON on the Haywood County census index from 1850. I'm trying to find out if this was his father. My William M was born (I think) in 1828. Any help would be appreciated.

They moved from Chester Co., SC to Lincoln Co., NC. by the 1800 Census and Mary HEFLEY is found on the 1830 Census in Haywood Co., NC. There children are beleived to be Michael Hefley d. 1831 SC, George, Phillip, Barbara, Polly, John, Martin died TN, and Susannah Hefley married to Banister TURNER.

I'm looking for Information On JOHN GILBERT JONES. Sources have led me to believe that he was living in Haywood county in 1850. He was born in 1821. He had a wife named Maria (or Mary)H. ASHE. He moved to Jackson County by 1860 and enlisted in the Confederacy to fight in the Civil War. He attained the rank of captain as a conscript officer. He was attached to Company "H", 10th Regiment-Artillery. After the war, he moved to Arkansas and died there in Praire County on Feb 25, 1915. If anyone has any information on this man, his wife, or his ancestors, please let me know.

I am searching for family of LAURA MESSER who married ROBERT LEE PARTON. She was dead by 1921 (the year of my fathers birth). He stated that he never knew her. Laura born probably in 1870's. Census says born in NC. LAURA PARTON MESSER was a midwife on Hemphill. She is buried on Hemphill in an unmarked grave along side 1 child and her husband. This is NOT!! the Robert Lee Parton and Nice Messer Parton on Cataloochee. That family moved to Gastonia, NC about the time the park system was buying land (1920's&1930's). O'Dell's book Misty Blue Hills has a short description on him. I know almost nothing else about either of these ancestors. I believe that they lived in Cocke County TN later. I am doing reasearch into the MILLER Family of HAYWOOD County. I think that the GEORGE MILLER listed on the 1830 Haywood Co. NC census had a son named Christian Miller who married a Judea ? and one of their children was a JORDAN A MILLER who married a Elender ? Jordan was born in 1839, and Elender was born in 1836. My husbands ggg granfather possibly was born in Haywood County in 1831. We know he was married in 1857 to VIOLET CAMPBELL in Haywood County. His name was WILLIAM N. MAHAFFEY. He went by the name Billy. He and Violet left the county and moved to Georgia. They had a son JETHRO HICKS MAHAFFEY in 1858 while living in Georgia. All three of these people, plus Jethro's wife are buried at the Philadelphia Baptist Church cemetery in Young Cane, Georgia. We would like to find out who William N.'s parents were and if they are related to the Hicks family listed in some of the Haywood County Census records.

James Allen HARRIS. I am researching information about James Allen HARRIS my Great Grandfather. He was born in NC in 1865. I am unsure of the exact county. He used to relate a story to his children and grandchildren that he came down off White Rock mountain and came to Tennessee when he was 17 years old. My mother says she remembers family from North Carolina visiting when she was young by the name of CARVER. If anyone is researching this HARRIS family I would appreciate hearing from you. According the the NC Gazetteer if James Allen HARRIS came from White Rock he could be from Haywood, Watuaga, Buncombe, Macon, Avery or Mitchell counties.

ERWIN, BONHAM I am searching for information on the ERWIN family of Haywood County, N.C. In the 1850 census there was an ELI ERWIN and wife MARIAH BONHAM ERWIN. In the household there was a JAMES ERWIN, age 77 born North Carolina. I need to know who the wife of this JAMES ERWIN was. In 12860 JAMES ERWIN was in Union County, Georgia living with a son THOMAS ERWIN. Also there was another son JOHN ERWIN who married SARAH NICHOLSON, daughter of JOHN NICHOLSON. JOHN ERWIN and wife SARAH were my Great Great Grandparents. Will share all information.

Seeking info about Joe SHELTON (b. in Haywood Co.) and his wife, a Cherokee woman b. in GA with the last name CANADA. She was on the Trail of Tears; they married in Arkansas. They settled there and had at least one daughter, Tobathi, born 1876. Any help would be appreciated.

I am interested in finding information on my great greatgrandparents, Mary POLLY HOOD and JOHN HUNTER CLARK. They both lived in Haywood Co., NC - it is believed that they were married May 7, 1832 in Haywood Co., NC except I have been unable to find a copy of their marriage record. They had one son James Allen, born in April 1833 in Haywood Co., NC then later they moved to Cocke Co., TN. Mary Polly's father's name was ALLEN HOOD. I am trying to find the name ofher mother. MARTIN, JENKENS

WILLIAM MARTIN (b-Sevier Co., TN 1816-1820) married REBECCA JENKENS (b-NC 17 May 1823) in Haywood Co., NC on 19 July 1840. Eldest son, William Albert Martin, my grandfather, born in Haywood Co., NC 18 Apr 1841. Family moved to TN (probably Sevier County) then migrated to Missouri before Civil War and then to Collin Co./Denton Co., Texas after Civil War. Seeking information on ancestors of William Martin & Rebecca Jenkens.

GREEN, PATTON, PORTER

Need parents of WILLIAM GREEN, born February 6, 1762 in Prince Edward county, Virginia, and died in Haywood county, North Carolina on March 2, 1837. William Green married KEZZIAH PATTON in Orange county, NC in 1781 during the American Revolution. William Green was a prisioner of war when General Lincoln surrendered the Southern Continental Army at Charleston, South Carolina. William and Kezziah Patton Green moved to Burke county, NC in about 1785 and later moved to Haywood county, NC about 1815, where William Green apparently lived until his death. Kezziah Green apparently went to Georgia about 1830 with her two sons, Anderson and William Green, born about 1786 in Burke county, NC. William Green (2) was my gg-grandfather, and he married Nancy Porter in Burke county, NC in about 1811. Both are buried in Carroll county, Georgia, along with Kezziah Patton Green.

Would like to "talk" with anyone researching STILLWELL families of Stillwell Creek area of Oconaluftee River. EVANS, DEAVER, WELLS

Researching the James L. EVANS and Eliza Ann DEAVER family. They married July 24, 1831 in Haywood County. Had three children: Lorenzo Dow EVANS, John EVANS and Mary EVANS. James died in 1839. Eliza Ann remarried Andrew Wells. Eliza Ann DEAVER's father was Richard DEAVER. Have no other information. Would like to know if anyone is researching those names.
