Sara J. Myers I am fairly desperate to find out who the parents of James P[reston] Coalman/Coleman were. He is buried in Hayesville United Methodist Cemetery and his will is on record at the Courthouse. I have tracked him back to Sullivan County, TN, but cannot find documentation/proof of his ancestry. He married Julia Ann Cattron (aka Ketron, Kettenring, Kettering) and they moved to Clay County from Tennessee. I have a copy of the last will and testament of James P. Coalman [sic] dated October 27, 1874, in which he names his "beloved wife Julia A. Coalm                                     an [sic]." He names the following children: David E. Coalman, daughters S. A. Coalman and S. K. [H?] Coalman, John O. Coalman; the "residue" of his estate to be divided equally "between my children." Julia Ann signs herself "Julianna Coalman" on husband's will. The Clay County Heritage Book lists them as #111 James Preston Coleman and Julia Ann Catron (Ketron): James Preston Coleman (12 Sept. 1812-12 Sept. 1874) son of John Coleman, was one of the early settlers of Clay County. He moved to Clay County from Sullivan County, Tenn. He was a blacksmith and farmer. He was married to Julia Ann Catron (Ketron), born 15 Feb. 1815, daughter of Henry Ketron and Susannah Sloss Ketron. According to 1850 and 1860 Census records James Preston and Julia Coleman had the following children: William, Joseph, Hugh, Mary, David E., Cornelius T., Susanna, Sarah, John O.H., and Elizabeth. James Preston Coleman is buried in the Hayesville Methodist Church Cemetery. After the death of her husband the elderly Julia Catron Coleman moved to Texas with some of her married children. The place and date of her death is unknown. George Atkins Coleman was the son of James Preston Coleman and Julia Ann Catron. He was born in Sullivan County, Tenn. 26 May 1844 and moved to Clay County with his parents before 1850. Submitted by Glenda Prater Murray of Raleigh, NC. Sources: Cemetery Records, Census Records, Family Knowledge and Bible. (34) The problem is that there are many John Colemans in Virginia and Tennessee, so I need to know which one was James P.'s father. I am just at a total dead end unless someone knows more.

Merrill Ledford I am trying to contact CarolAnn DeBacker Robinson whose query is on page 2. Her messages have "bounced" back to me. Does anyone know her new address? I too am looking into the WORLEY line. I received some social security information on Anna P. LEDFORD (Obie S. Ledford's wife) which included her father and mother. It list her father as William PERRY and her mother as Vina Adeline Worley. I have found cemetery information where Vina Adeline Worley is buried at Bethabara Cemetery and in the same cemetery there is a W. P. Worley. I have also been in touch with Anna's only living son in Ohio and he isn't able to supply any information beyond what I already have. My question is was Vina Adeline a Worley before her marriage to William Perry, or did the Social Security fail to put the last name of Worley on the Social Security Death Form? I sent a questionaire to Mr. Ledford in Ohio, the last living son, and when he returned the questionaire, on the question of the name of your mother before she married he list Anna Perry. I am definitely at a loss right now. I hope someone can help me.

Merrill Ledford. Rather than a question, I have an answer for many that had Amanda L. LEDFORD as the daughter of Curtis E. Ledford.  I located where she passed away and someone from Haywood Co. was nice enough to send me the death certificate and it stated that her father was Center E. Merrill Ledford. What happened to William R. LEDFORD, son of Curtis E. Ledford and Susannah Baker Ledford?  He was born in 1844 or 1845 in Cherokee Co. NC.  He appears in the 1850 and 1860 census, but doesn't appear again.  The question is, what happened to this son?  Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to determine what happened to him?  It was during the time of the Civil War and if he fought in the war he would have been only about 16 years old, but that
wasn't totally uncommon. What about obits from newspapers during this time? If he died would there be records of this death?  It is hard to imagine a person who lived to completely disappear from all the records.  If anybody has any suggestions please post. Thanks.

Maudean Neill.  I am researching a black family who were with my white MAULDIN family in1850 and 1860 census in north Georgia. I have traced them in 1870 census and following. They were using the name Mauldin. I found Charlie Mauldin and wife Martha (CORN) Mauldin in Clay County in 1910. There was a family in the census there at that time headed by Lee Mauldin. I suspect he was related to Charlie. Do you have any information about these people, especially how was Lee related to Charlie?   The black family were slaves of my ancestor, Alexander Mauldin, who had slaves listed in 1850 in Habersham County and 1860 in Rabun County. I have traced this family of slaves to Clay county. I am finding a lot of them in the census to 1930 and in some death records. Do you know someone in the family that is knowledgeable about the past of the family that might be interested in helping me to bring this family data down to the present?
The families I am finding that descend from Simon and Dinah Mauldin are:
Lee Mauldin and family
Charlie & Martha Corn Mauldin family
They married into the Herbert family and others in Clay County.
A daughter of Simon and Dinah named Tennessee/Tennie married Nelson Davis in Clay Co. in 1875.
Any information about these families would help me in putting together their family history.
